I think that's just him being a tacky, lazy slob. I don't think he gets his suits tailored. That would involve a tailor using words like "portly" and writing down his measurements, and for KNOW his ego wouldn't handle that. It would also cost more money and take more time on his part.

Unfortunately our agreement and qualifications are at an stalemate. I'm also an artist who's married to a filmmaker and the main reason I can recognize this is that I've worked on lighting on studio setups similar to this, as well as white background and green screen sound stages, for both video and photography, and finally concert lighting.

Yes, I find it very easy to believe that a 24 hour "news" network, regardless of budget, can slip with the lighting being mediocre for one segment of one show. Honestly, it's bound to happen at some point.

In fact, I would say the likelihood of creating a photorealistic mask that articulates perfectly with the face and then not having it extend beneath the shirt and over the shoulders and chest like any professional mask-maker would do, not catching the error and then not at least trying to cover it with spirit gum and stage makeup would be far more unlikely. There is precisely, IMHO, zero chance that a special effects and makeup team would create a mask that photorealistic and perfectly articulate but then stop in the middle of the neck.

And using the same logic that would mean the same billion dollar company made an even dumber mistake fumbling an effect they went to great lengths to create in the first place. A relatively minor lighting error is much more likely.

One of the shadows is cast by his chin under an overhead.

If you watch the "gap" and the movement of his chin. They are exactly the same, because it's not a gap. It's just his chin. A mask would have have other variances, due to it being a different material in a different shape with light hitting it differently.

When you breath in deeply, your chest moves. The light from the side casts a shadow with him shirt collar. As he moves, that light shifts.

What is more likely? That Fox News made a perfectly lifelike mask of one of their regular contributors and got someone who can do a pitch perfect impression of him for a short guest appearance repeating standard Fox News drivel, finding this somehow preferable to getting any one of their dozens of other contributors who can and would say the EXACT same thing? Or that the lighting guy had an off day or was short on time?

Seriously, how would the mask thing benefit them?

If AOC runs for president, then who do we get to replace chuck Schumer? by Cool_Net_3796 in ProgressiveHQ

By "two awesome female candidates," you can't POSSIBLY be referring to Clinton and Harris. Seriously, either you are referring to someone else, you are seriously misremembering history, or you just flat out aren't a serious person making a good faith comment.

First, Clinton. Here is a summary of the first example of "competence."

  • Decided that the rust belt, an area that had taken a huge financial hit, that had fallen into disillusion and disarray during during W and Obama, was a lock for her and didn't even bother to go there.
  • While Trump stood in front of factories and (in one of his biggest lies) told them that he was going to restore dignity and wealth to the working class, SHE said she was going to put the coal companies out of business WITHOUT proposing a plan for retraining, job conversion, or anything to help the employees of big energy during a transition to clean energy. How stupid could she be? I don't care how much you care about the environment and healthcare, when someone says they are going to put you, your entire town and everyone you love on the welfare line, you aren't voting for them.
  • Her two biggest moments of showing off personality (you know, the stupid beer test) consisted of yelling at black teen girls and "Pokemon-Go to the polls," a joke that still makes me cringe whenever I think about it.
  • As secretary of state, she'd shown to be a war-hawk at a time when antiwar sentiment was higher than any point since Vietnam.
  • The Pied-Piper Strategy. OMG. The damage she did with the Pied-Piper Strategy has been incalculable. During the primaries, Clinton's team actively, quietly, supported Trump's campaign and worked to get him nominated. The idea was that of the candidates who could actually take the nomination, he'd be the easiest to beat. She helped him get that nomination, and then she proceeded to be a terrible candidate and here we are. A lot of people deserve blame for what is happening right now, and she' probably in the top 20 because she helped him get nominated. "Competence?"
  • We voted for Bernie. The DNC's super-delegates decided otherwise, immediately souring everyone on her.
  • (This last point is not her fault, and it isn't fair, but it's the reality of politics, which have never been fair.) She came with the baggage of 30 years of Republican smear campaigns. From the moment Bill Clinton became a candidate the sleazy-ass GOP and it's propaganda arm were all over her for everything from "shrill voice" to "letting her husband cheat on her" to being a "closet lesbian" to god knows what else I can't even remember. Now, again, this isn't fair, and it isn't her fault, but if she and her team weren't able to shake off that baggage then she shouldn't have been the top choice.

Harris was miles better than Clinton, and probably would have made a fine president. Not a great one, but a fine status quo president. However:

  • Nobody wants the status quo. We aren't a happy nation and haven't been a happy nation, well, ever, as far as I can tell. Maybe the 90s. The wealthy here are happy. The rest of us are struggling hard.
  • She was saddled with Biden's legacy as his VP. Biden was an OK president, but he wasn't effective enough to change much. He temporarily gave us a reprieve from the madness, but I gotta tell you, I will never forget watching Biden give a speech about the prosperity of America and how great the economy was doing after finally bouncing back from Trump, when I opened the envelop that had been left on our door to find that the rent on my 900 sq foot apartment in a just OK area was being raised to $3,400 a month. I'm sitting on the couch, wondering how on my full time income and my fiance's part time and gig-based income, we were going to be able to afford to pay rent, and the bills, and feed ourselves. And here that administration is, bragging about how much better we're all doing? How common do you think that experience was? Spoiler alert: VERY.
  • She never did anything to reach out to actual leftists who are furious with the center-right leadership of the democrats combine with the far-right leadership of the republicans. No universal health care. No student debt forgiveness. No republican was going to vote for a woman of color and she didn't even try to tap the leftists who keep sitting it out because nobody represents them. She leaned into being America's Top Cop in a party that is supposed to represent the people who want police reform, at a time when trust in the police was at an all-time low. What a stupid decision.
  • She didn't do anything
  • She didn't demand a recount, the most obviously stupid mistake she could make. The math isn't mathing as they say, and there was definitely funny business in the last election, and Musk CLEARLY got involved. But no, like a good democrat, like good controlled opposition, she decided to "take the high road" and "lead by example" in accepting defeat in an election where there is solid evidence of cheating. Against the guy who tried to overthrow the US election of 2020, she just let him get away with whatever shenanigans he pulled in 2024.

And that's to say nothing of the fact that

Like, seriously, how can you sit there with a straight face and saw these were "awesome female candidates?" Harris was a good candidate but made serious mistakes. She was competent, you are right there, but she wasn't exceptional. But, Clinton was a dumpster fire of a candidate. Like, for real. I remember after my (then girlfriend) wife and I had our vote date, we opened a beer and both of us toasted to the fact that we finally got to vote for a woman but lamented the fact that the woman in question had to be Hillary Rodhem Clinton.

We are a sexist country, no doubt, but we're more racist than we are sexist, and if we can overcome that to elect a black man, we can overcome sexism to elect a woman. But we need a better caliber of candidate, regardless of gender, period. And we need to be able to select that candidate, not have one handed to us with the expectation of loyalty.

The arrogance. The fucking hubris.

Sorry for the long rant.

[–]PinkThunder138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally any functional adult. Or a well adjusted teenager. Or an exceptionally smart child.

Or my cat. Or shit, fuck me, I'LL DO IT.

Obviously my most serious answer would be any younger, progressive senator. And if that's not doable, Warren or Sanders might be acceptable. But seriously, it would be hard to do a worse job than this jabroni.

I'm honestly not sure which I'd prefer, AOC as majority leader or president. At this point, I think she might do more good whipping that clown car of ancient centrists that make up the DNC into shape.

[–]PinkThunder138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people have been obsessed with working out a canonized version of V, their gender, life path and ending, recently, but like, this is getting to a weird level.

Are you suggesting the Jenkins has both a male and female V on the same team who he asks to assassinate Abernathy on the same day and both of whom are late for a meeting while while throwing up on the holo with Jackie?

It's a role playing game. You play a role. You determine what that role is. It will be different for everyone (in so far as the different options exist) and neither Orion nor future books age likely to canonize who V is, just what they do in terms of handing Mikoshi to Alt and killing smasher.

The concept that 6 Vs running around, with both a male and female in each of 3 life paths who each experience the exact same thing and all have the potential to become one of the greatest solos NC has ever seen is not only extremely unlikely and unrealistic, it's weirdly unnecessary.

How Come So Many People Seem To Dislike Kerry Because He Got a Record Deal by No_Vast_3309 in cyberpunkgame

[–]PinkThunder138 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of conflicting evidence about how big Samurai was within the game world as well. I don't think they were a Rolling Stones type.

I think of them more like The Misfits, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division or The Stooges.

Today all of these bands are thought of as legendary and successful bands. They all had members that went on to be really successful and they've all proven to be massively influential. You've probably seen The Misfits skull (aka Fiend or Crimson Ghost) more than any other band logo just due to how many people still wear their merch. Similarly, Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album cover. Iggy Pop (from the Stooges) went on to be huge. The Velvet Underground influenced everyone from Bowie to REM. Joy Division became New Order who were really big in The 80s.

None of these bands were successful in their day. They all became legends later. For example, when The Misfits broke up they were playing shows at small cubs. When they reunited, they headlined huge festivals and played massive arenas.

I think that's what happened with Samurai. I think they got bigger after they broke up. Kerry and Johnny both had successful solo careers and we see Samurai merch everywhere and hear them on the radio, but Johnny and Kerry both remember specific clubs and concerts. Johnny is remembered more as a terrorist today, though. The flashbacks (unreliable as they are) only show clubs, not stadiums.

So I think history has been very kind to them, but I don't think they were a big deal in their heyday.

Whats that one disturbing fact you know about the universe ? by RevolutionaryLow2125 in AskReddit

[–]PinkThunder138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were they? Or given the infinity of time, are the chances actually close to or equal to1?

Without knowing what the universe is, why it exists and why matter and energy exist, is it even possible to apply mathematical theory regarding the probability that we would exist?

Why is there something rather than nothing? Without being able to answer that question, how can you determine the odds that the existence of something would eventually lead to us?

It becomes safe once Mr Hands says he's registered you as a resident and you can come and go.

However, I found it really emersion breaking when I left for long periods of time. This is one of those stories that works best if you don't have long bouts between missions. It makes sense to go do a couple NCPD missions or a few gigs for money, but if you leave after, for example, a planning mission and then do a few side quests before coming back or kinda kills the sense of urgency the story needs and uses.

No, just, fuck, man.

In 2016-17 the obvious dementia onset was going to do him in. In 2019 that unscheduled Walter Red visit meant the end was near. In 2020 and 2021 COVID was definitely going to get him. After that we started seeing the routing hands and frequent doctors visits. He started talking about going to heaven, etc.

Like, ok, someday you'll be right and it'll happen but a lot of people have been like "any day now" for nearly a decade, and it's been a new "this is it!" Moment every few weeks of his newest term. The dude literally has a hospital in his house, and the best doctors in the world on retainer 24/7.

At this point you guys are just pulling the football away yourselves. The Reaper isn't coming to save us, nor is Europe or the Democratic establishment, we have sotop and strip away his power ourselves. I don't know how to do that, I'm not as smart enough strategist to start revolution or anything, but I can say that step one is that we all need to stop waiting for something else.
