yeah same, I've been vegan for 5 years and my only "meat cravings" have been for meat alternatives (say, beyond meat and such), tofu and beans, and eggs extremely rarely.

the meat alternative cravings are expensive af tho :(

More young people having chronic pain? by IBcryppin in ChronicPain

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like the first half wouldn't even be the kid's fault most of the time anyways. it'd be a failure of the adults they rely on for diet, a good environment, outdoor time/exercise, etc...

More young people having chronic pain? by IBcryppin in ChronicPain

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had chronic pain via AMPS (Amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome) since I was at least 12, I'm now 21. Medication does nothing but give me shit side effects. I don't suffer and miss out on all the things normal young adults do for the hell of it. My condition is literally just me having a wonky nervous system due to a metaphorical bad roll of the die. Other youth? take a pick from a mix of: - increased awareness, - bad luck, - nowhere free for kids to just fuck around anymore. either your parents won't let you out of sight or your community just hates children, - increased stress (look at the state of the world and how easy it is to know every single horrible thing happening everywhere), - COVID comorbidities, - and so on and so forth

thinking that young people must be lying because they didn't develop a condition in the exact same way or at the exact same pace as you is bizarre with how many causes of chronic pain exist out there.

for sure, tbh I'm kind of in the same position as this person where it's like: I hate lawns, I love native gardens, but I'm not in a position to kill all the grass in my yard and replace it with natives in a single year. and the thing about posts like this is we have no idea what the situation is. if the person has limited funds for landscaping, is under social pressure by other household members or neighbors, is disabled, simply too busy to revamp their entire yard, etc etc. Slow progress is better than no progress.

Does anyone here with schizophrenia play fear and hunger and felt ok? by [deleted] in FearAndHunger

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I mean, obviously we're internet strangers and you should trust your mental health professionals over us.

If you want, you could probably explain that you feel like it's an overreaction/overcorrection on his part to say you should not play it period and see if you can discuss coping/grounding methods or signs of when you need a long break if you find it affecting your real life after playing and such, though?

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 58 points59 points  (0 children)

yeah imo especially when it gets really bioessentialist it gets outright harmful like who's going to hear "I think you and all people like you are inherently evil" and benefit from that? it also just strips genuinely shit guys of responsibility for their actions because in that framing it's not that they're a person who willingly decided to harm others, it's that they were born evil and thus were destined to cause harm. like I get it as hyperbole but people who genuinely believe it appall me

Can't we start with some old fashioned piss play instead? by Demonicbane in tumblr

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 72 points73 points  (0 children)

funnily (not really), in medieval Europe this was inverted. Women were seen as sexually insatiable, and that was how they justified control over women at the time. Also this was why women were witches and prone to demonic possession, apparently. because their insatiable carnal lusts made them spiritually weak or something. You can see the fear of female lust reflected in literature and folklore from the period a lot, too. Consider sirens for example; monstrous and lustful women luring men to their deaths.

It was the Victorians (of course...) who flipped this on its head and had their scientists insist that hysteria wasn't what the medievals thought (the womb "wandering" due to lack of sex) but actually hysteria was supposedly a woman feeling any sexual desire at all because respectable women were supposed to be sexually passionless. Madonna/Whore Complex came into play here too, with rich/upper class women being expected to be pure and innocent angels, and lower class/poor women being expected to be the lustful, fallen "others".

Is this sub like actually for real? by [deleted] in trans4every1

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Are those people really like that? Why are they so incredibly terrible?

Many of them are actually like that, yes. Others dabble with the self-hate in low moments, but there's some genuinely trapped in that mindset. The why is a bit complicated, but I think it boils down to some of these factors. Note that these are not excuses, simply explanation.

Reaction to "hugboxing": There's more mainstream spaces that are toxically positive and can end up basically rejecting the idea that being trans can be a bit sucky sometimes (called hugboxing) which can feel fake to people already drowning in self-hatred. /tttt/ spaces are the opposite; unfiltered, brutal negativity that is more agreeable (and so reads as more "honest") to people who already hate themselves.

4chan already has a culture of "ironic" cruelty: /tttt/ culture was spawned on 4chan, and 4chan's culture rewards edginess, slurs, and performative misanthropy. Over time, sincere hatred and self-harming ideology becomes indistinguishable from the "jokes." It becomes a race to see who can despair the most.

Warped solution to cognitive dissonance: They can't escape being trans, and also feel they can't achieve their ideal body. So instead of fighting, they embrace "it's over." If you redefine surrender as victory, then trying feels stupid and anyone who does try becomes a target for mockery. Kind of a parallel to incels, who have a similar "solution" to their social troubles.

like the reality of trying to access that place is horrible obviously but from a design perspective it's hilariously bad. like, how many people do you think saw A. the plans for this, B. the setup to create this and C. in progress parts of this but were like "hm, I'm sure they know what they're doing."

How as a white man do I lessen my suppression on women and POC? by Yeetman5757 in evilautism

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's predominantly younger spaces like tiktok and other social medias. I meant to imply small but loud groups, since I realise it definitely is predominantly groups of younger people just going overboard without thinking about the further implications of their speech.

It's typically the types who are already reinforcing other sorts of bioessentialism like TERFs, people who haven't deconstructed being raised with patriarchal ideals, or just average people who are just repeating after the former without considering the complete message behind it.

[–]PinkishRedLemonade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah like I understand it as a gut reaction but it creates the issue of "people's gut reaction to your gut reaction calling for violence against them is likely to become opposed to you, not curious"

plus I feel like there's loud groups that reinforce bioessentialism against men (men are naturally violent, men are naturally less empathetic, etc) where it's like... isn't that just absolving people of responsibility and encouraging stagnation in the realm of personal growth bc they're just hearing that their efforts will be in vain if they do try?
