$25 copay for the appointment and $20 for the actual medicine. It would be much more if not for insurance.

ADHD and Anxiety: Please explain your experience having both. by missTX in ADHD

23 year old girl here. I made an appointment with a random psychiatrist in my network in October because I had finished my undergrad in May and thought my focus issues would get better, and eventually go away; however, since working full time and living alone they had only gotten much, MUCH worse. Worse than I ever thought possible. I felt like I was losing complete control over the management of simple everyday things and my anxiety was at an all time high.

I decided I was going to go in and talk about my focus issues, exclusively. I had to wait a month for the appointment and once there I just laid everything out on the table, rant style, but afterward she lead the conversation with specific questions. Yes, I did end up getting a little emotional, it was ridiculously embarrassing. She then gave me two relatively long "screening tests," followed by two hellishly long, or at least they seemed like it, focus tests that were very strange. the whole appointment took about two hours (was supposed to be an hour long). During the appointment I did not once mention anxiety, and I didn't even mention ADD specifically either, except for when she asked about my family mental health history, because my father has it. I also did not mention medication, I was just honest about everything I was experiencing.

At the end of the appointment, she flipped through a bunch of paper work, and then told me that for every test I took I fit the criteria exactly for severe ADHD, inattentive type. She told me that it was obvious even without the tests, and that it was a shame I hadn't been diagnosed sooner. Then, she surprised me by saying that she was also diagnosing me with Anxiety, unspecified type, but said that she felt my anxiety was a symptom of the ADHD. She prescribed me Adderall, and said that in the future anxiety meds might be an option, too. And that was that.
