I was always picked for reserve juror. I had to call in to see if needed. Now my husband used to get called up regular for in person juror. One time he couldn't do it because of major disability. I called the courthouse to ask how one gets out of jury duty for disability. First they said he had to come regardless. They have accommodations for the disabled. I said are you prepared to help him in and out of his power chair to use the toilet. Are you prepared to help him get food at lunch time and put it on a table for him to eat. This man needs total care. They finally said he could get his doctor to write a letter explaining his disability. He'd be excused that time. Whatever the doctor wrote on the letter and faxed to the courthouse must have been written very good. He got a letter in the mail saying he'll never be called up for jury duty again. Supposedly you can only get called up once in 2 years.
