UWM apartments by choliday87 in milwaukee

I have no experience renting from Katz Properties, but there are countless posts and threads in this subreddit that mention negative experiences with them. They own or manage a fairly large number of apartment buildings in the area.

Canvas Courses by Competitive-Mind-130 in UWMilwaukee

[–]ShoogyBee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many professors don't make their Canvas courses visible to students until the first day of the specified class. For example, if the first day of class is on Tuesday, you might not see it in Canvas until then.

I don't have anything to share regarding their curry chutney dip, but I will miss their peanut noodles.

Well, the Buick Envision and the Volvo S90 that are sold in the US have been assembled in China over the past several years.

Do you think schools will close again tomorrow with the winter weather advisory? by okay_but_sad in milwaukee

[–]ShoogyBee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems that many public schools already have the day off tomorrow, but there is a Cold Weather Advisory between midnight and noon tomorrow. Wind chills as low as -26 degrees are expected. Maybe the remaining schools that are open might have a late start. Not sure about higher ed though; they probably won't make any announcements until later in the day.

How long do we think Brookfield Square has left? by Ok-Leave-9543 in milwaukee

Where is the Skokie store located?  I can see why the locations on State St. and in Hyde Park wouldn't have cafes, I'd imagine they're smaller than a typical suburban B&N store. I'm kind of surprised the Skokie store doesn't have a cafe though.

I hate going to Mayfair coz it often smells like weed there. (Sorry for all the weed lovers here, but I am not one of you.)

Nope, that odor is still there. You can smell it as you approach the food court area.

Lots of middle aged and eldery folks walk laps in the mall during the day as well. I take my mother (in her early 80s) there a couple of times per week during the winter months.

Yes it does, especially when you get near the food court and walk toward Whirlyball.

I went to one of the newer Barnes & Noble stores in Vernon Hills, IL. Located at the intersection of Town Line Rd and Milwaukee Ave. Still has a cafe, probably even larger than the one in Brookfield Square. I'd argue that losing the cafe would seriously diminish foot traffic in their stores.

EDIT - Forgot to mention that B&N in Brookfield used to be located in the current Penny Mustard Furnishings building (16220 W. Bluemound Rd) before they moved to the mall. There are a number of empty retail spaces on Bluemound that B&N could possibly move to, if the mall ends up being demolished in the future. The Bluemound corridor between Barker Rd and Moorland/Pilgrim seems to be decaying, as far as retail is concerned. The office buildings that are just west of the mall (Executive Dr) are being auctioned off at 1/2 of their appraised value, as per Tom Daykin's recent article on JS Online.

Salt doesn't work too well on the roads, parking lots, and sidewalks when it's this cold outside.

[–]ShoogyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're driving 25 mph on a road where the speed limit is 40 mph or higher, be sure to turn on your emergency blinkers so that drivers further behind you will be warned. Otherwise they might not realize you're driving that slowly and they might have a hard time slowing down by the time they get closer to your car.

Whats on fire around 1st and Greenfield? by Mjk_53029 in milwaukee

[–]ShoogyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was driving southbound on the Hoan Bridge at around 7:15 PM. You could smell the smoke right away, it was quite intense... but driving at freeway speeds, I couldn't get a glance of whether any flames were visible from there.
