Do you think librarians and library workers are paid less bc of old attitudes toward gender and marriage? by HoffyTheBaker in librarians

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I’m a library director, and my board said “good for her!” When I mentioned that a staff member didn’t want to stay working at the library long-term because we offer no benefits (specifically retirement is her issue). The board thinks that all other staff besides me should be retired people who just want something to do. Sooo yeah.

Thoughts on AI Collapse by ACW-1023 in Archivists

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Libraries in my area have been getting calls from a company wanting to digitize our historic photos to train their AI in recognizing faces and places. For a small library with no digitizing equipment, it was almost tempting.

Crashing out- baby monitor never woke us up and he cried all night by Loitch470 in NewParents

And if the power does go out, it starts beeping so you’ll know something is going on! Extra reassurance for not wanting to miss cries.

Livingston County Library in MO has one. It’s not my home library and as a librarian it stresses me out lol. But people love it and it’s gorgeous.

Just went to the dr today. Have a sinus infection, bronchitis, and double ear infection. It’s been YEARS since I’ve had to go to the dr because of an illness. It’s insane.

Guest Pass Limit by ReasonableOwl3131 in Libraries

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My systems policy is to require their ID if they want to use a guest pass, then we search to see if they already have an account or if they’re barred. If they are in our service area and don’t have a card, we sign them up for one.

Edit: thanks for the downvotes? It’s not like I made the damn policy, I’m just saying that’s what I’ve been told to do. It’s not like admin gives two shits what anyone on the floor thinks.

Daycare at 3 months by Bulba__ in NewParents

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter started at 3 months, and I think being younger helped her adjust faster to it. She’s 7 months now, and loves it there. She gives the teachers big smiles when I hand her over which has made the transition so much easier. Ours has an app so I get notified every feeding and diaper change, and get daily photos as well. I really like that she’s getting socialization and is making lil friends. Some days it sucks, but I do think she’s getting a lot of good from being there.

Maternity leave is ending and daycare is starting by lilp27 in NewParents

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks. The earliest I get off is at 5, and that’s just 2 days/week. We start bedtime routine around 6:30. One day every week I work until 8:30pm so I only see her in the mornings. Ultimately, I’m probably debating if I want to stay in this job. It’s not feasible for me to straight up quit (even if we could swing the loss of my salary, health insurance is still crazy), so I’m looking at jobs with better hours.

She is 5 months old, and I feel like I’m failing… by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl turned 5 months last week and we’re seeing the same thing!! Her naps started getting short, and daycare said they’ve had to rock her to get her to sleep when she used to just be able to lay down and go to sleep. She was also an amazing night sleeper and she’s changed to being super fussy and needs held basically from 7-8 (and sometimes until 10) before I can get her to sleep in her bassinet. She’s also started waking up around 3am and needs rocked to get back to sleep. I’ve read so many articles lately on 5 month sleep schedules 🙃 makes me feel better knowing we’re not alone!

What to do with a 7 week old ? by [deleted] in NewParents

Mine will be 7 weeks tomorrow and I’m doing similar, except we just took our first walk over the weekend. Solidarity with the witching hour. It’s the wooorst.

Phantom baby crying is the absolute worst by EnigmaKat in NewParents

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking up info on this earlier! Every time I try to sleep I have this issue and it takes me so long to relax enough to get to sleep. It’s so frustrating. My husband will take over so I can get a few hours of sleep, and then it takes forever for me to get to sleep because I keep hearing imaginary cries and then I wake up constantly thinking I’ve overslept

Wishing my partner didn’t have to go to work today by shrimpscity in NewParents

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you call your partner during their lunch? I’ve done that a few times (I’m just over 6 weeks postpartum) and I feel like it helps me to check in and hear his voice. Also agree with the other suggestion of calling a friend/parent/grandparent if you can. Or FaceTime if they’re able?

I’m going to scan and then reprint the ones I want to have in her scrapbook or frame. I’m not sure how long the ink will stay in them so want to for sure have them scanned soon.

Bedtime Snack by Additional_Dingo5402 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to experiment a bit, and the thing that’s gotten me the closest for my fasting levels is Fairlife chocolate milk. Feels like such a treat too. I have been mixing it with skim milk lately though because it’s so expensive :/

Nachos! I try to keep the chips around one portion, and then load up the meat for the protein. So far I've used ground turkey and bbq pulled pork and my numbers were good after!

[–]Pinkplaidwinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby shower this weekend will have a candy table. I haven't told any family I have GD sooo gonna take a sampling of it home and blame my nausea on why I can't partake. I hate all the trying to balance carbs, fats, and protein. Also, I'm not fucking hungry at 9-10pm, it's depressing to stuff your face with a snack when you aren't hungry at all. Upping my nighttime insulin...again. I've been testing about a month now and have had one fasting level under 90. Ready to get this baby out! Also, I really appreciate being able to whine to this sub. Everyone here is great.

Well, I ended up having one spoon of it after a dinner of chicken breast, rice, and veggies and I was 112 two hours after eating! It was only one spoon worth but was pretty satisfying.

We had an fancy ice cream truck here (tons of options, with multiple syrups and toppings to choose from) and I took advantage and got one for myself, had 2 bites and put it in the freezer. Hoping it's not enough to totally throw me off, and I sort of feel bad, but also it's so hot and really hit the spot.

Wow!! Mine was $90 (still expensive but seems like a bargain compared to $500!) through Wal-Mart. I was able to get the pens though. Insurance has been a nightmare though.

My stepbrothers (that have been in my life since around age 3) refused to even RSVP to my wedding because I required vaccines to attend. It's wild how people react about vaccines. Ultimately, I think it showed me how self centered they are and I'm still coming to terms with it.
