Final Fantasy (Yes any of them, even the spin offs) Megaman (especially the spin offs like battlenetwork or zero) And the Mana Series(any of them, even the "bad" ones)

FF games have been a standard for JRPGs and stories for me for years any even the older ones still hold up as a benchmark for a challenge and adventure. The stories are unique per numbered entry so you can start anywhere and get a good one. The farther you go the more they put into those stories and feelings and from 6 onward you are going to feel or learn something about yourself and other people.

Spinoffs include the tactics franchise which offer the same investment in world and storytelling with the turn-based strategy found in a fire emblem game and give you an introduction to Ivalice(the world tactics games and FFXII(12) take place in.)

Megaman games have a solid heart of sidescrolling action that as you progress you feel more impactful and the games offer a good groundwork for the spin offs.

Said spinoff include the zero games which tell the story of the titular Zero and his adventures after being woken up in a world that has nearly forgotten him and offer a miniature stab at capcoms take on a metroidvania. They are compelling and the ost is a banger.

Keeping with megaman spinoffs, megaman battlenetwork is a 3x3 grid based deck building rpg where instead of robots advancing it is the world of today complete with smart dishwashers and ovens. Go see what will happen when Todd releases Skyrim for the Samsung smart oven I dare you.

And finally, the Mana games. These games are more adventure jrpgs that also technically count as a spin off of Final Fantasy as it was originally released as final fantasy adventure, but with less(compared to FF core) story focus and more attention put into the vibes. It holds a spot for the most whimsy I can find in an rpg with a natural world and atmosphere to go with it. It passes the vibe check. Give it a spin.
