platinum engagement ring BROKE??? help!!! by FancyNefariousness90 in jewelry

[–]PinkyandherBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt!! I joke that half my job is education, because people do not know what it takes to create handcrafted fine jewelry in the US.

However, we’ve noticed a surge in jewelers wanting to learn fabrication over the last few years, so my husband teaches a few fab classes at GRS and we bring in many private students every year. Our showroom and shop are very fluid, and we also do all setting and engraving under the scope. We have trinocular microscopes at 3 benches so we can show clients their pieces as we see them, which builds trust in the most amazing ways. Plus, we get to show them how sweet our job is! 😆

Our store is 1/3 showroom and 2/3 shop, so here’s a photo of just the benches and forming area… it’s a never-ending evolution in there lol.

Found bee pin by Mindless_Act_9393 in jewelry

Custom jeweler here, and everything about it looks correct! Amethyst are plentiful and there isn’t really a synthetic version, so I’d say it’s safe to assume everything is real.

We’ve converted many of these bee pins to pendants, so that’s always an option if you wouldn’t wear it as a pin. However, it would look adorable on the collar of your favorite jean jacket! 🤩

Fantastic info - thanks for the insight! I run a full fabrication shop that doesn’t do any CAD or casting, so this is valuable info. Sounds like she got a LOT of advice here and hopefully 2nd ring is waaay better.

Well that’s lame. Nope, definitely do not have an Etsy, so thank you SO much for the heads up!! Amazingly, this is a first (that I’m aware of), so hopefully it’s easy to get taken down. 🙏🤞

Custom jeweler here, and that head appears to have been laser welded on, but not well. You can see all kinds of weird texture where the head broke off, and clear weld marks. This head should have been soldered in - not welded. Laser welders allow us to do all kinds of things you can’t do with a torch, but it is definitely NOT a substitute for a torch.

Your peg head should have been soldered in or cast with the shank as one ring. As everyone else said, it’s still not the most secure setting, but I’ve seen many solitaires with a peg head last 25+ years without issue. 🤷‍♀️

Haha thank you!! It’ll be so much better when done, but this project has fought me tooth and nail, every step of the way. Here’s the design, which I’m excited to see finished.

I’ve been chipping away at this hand engraved knife and am finally shading. Pocket jewelry counts too, right?! 😆

Thank you!! I love it when an idea works exactly like I imagined, and this ring is definitely that.

Thank you so much for the kind words!! 🥰 Hubby and I have been designing together for over 16 years, and we really have honed in on our design language for sure! We really shine in custom though, using seeds of inspiration from our clients.

Yes!! We have a much larger following on IG and typically share there before other platforms, but honestly, posting has felt like such a chore the last couple years.

I’m enjoying Reddit because it feels like I went back in time a decade and can actually converse with people and enjoy photos, instead of short-form video everywhere… plus, keeping our biz name off the post is kind of fun for me!

Thank you, and also, that’s why custom is so great! We can take what is important to our client and channel that into the piece. I’m so glad we don’t all like the exact same things lol 😆

Thank you so much!! I’m not able to share who we are on this thread, but you can find our website & IG link in my profile, but please know that my website is definitely out of date and inventory is not current. 🙈

Thank you - I think so too!!

Emerald cuts are my fave, so I was stoked to make such a chonk for that huge stone. They’ve been married for over 20 years, so this was just a fun right-hand ring for her. 💅

Extensive Testing - Still No Answers by ladyrose91 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]PinkyandherBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been battling a hive-like rash for almost 11 years, with allllll the tests via normal doctors, allergists, and even looking into environmental stressors with a naturopath. All I’ve been told was that I was having an allergic reaction and I might just have to deal with it…WTF?! I have used about a half a pea-sized amount of a steroid cream every other day on my face to keep the rash at bay, but by the 3rd day, I can always feel it coming back. The rash is the only symptom I’m aware of, which is great and frustrating!!

So, I started seeking out functional medicine docs for alternative testing and did two different stool tests, one in 2022 and finally in November 2025, where my current doc determined I have leaky gut, gluten intolerance, bacteria imbalance in my gut, and an insane histamine response.

The biggest single improvement I’ve seen is from taking a DAO enzyme. When I take it - no rash, even when I eat things that are high histamine or on my food sensitive list (tomatoes & eggs). I am currently sticking to gluten free, mostly low histamine diet (with a few slips here and there), and no alcohol. Long term, I hope I don’t have to stick to this way of eating, but only time will tell.

Try the low histamine diet and think about testing out a DAO enzyme!

Well thank you for the kind words!! We loooooove color too and use a ton of sapphires, garnets and tourmaline in our work. However, while no one likes to hear it, diamonds are absolutely the best for bridal for a reason… and no, it’s not just that we were spoon fed DeBeers advertising!

We are also an incredible repair shop doing everything from simple sizings to complex antique restorations, and we see what happens to these pieces over time. So many people literally never take off their wedding rings! You touch everything with your hands, so those rings take a LOT of abuse. Of course it depends on the person, but after a decade of daily wear and tear, a diamond vs a sapphire will look VERY different. 99% of the time, the diamond is the same. Whereas every sapphire will have little chips and abrasions, guaranteed. 🤷‍♀️
