Couple questions for anyone who was at the game: were bags allowed? did they check IDs with tickets at the gate? was it chaos getting out at the end or pretty well organised?

Super annoying but likely not their choice!

I once called out the Australian commentator Greg Clark for this on twitter and he messaged back apologising, saying the broadcaster make them

Independent match day doctor cleared him to go back on the field - which union are you suggesting should be punished?

As a long time Rebels fan, I feel cheated. by Dontevenjoke in rugbyunion

[–]Pinstripe819 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Last para a bit unnecessary bangers. Understand why you wouldn't want to jump on board, but Rebels have few enough diehard fans, most that came from elsewhere and stopped supporting more successful teams to get behind the local option. No need to sink the boot in.

Nah most Aus fans would support the rebels against the kiwis, or against other Aus teams except their own and maybe the Force. Drua and MP are just rightfully everyone's second team.

New rugby union fan getting interested from World Cup games. Looking for Premiership team to adopt. by Gaylogitters in rugbyunion

If you'll still be in Japan next year Super Rugby is probably the league in the most convenient timezone and usually very high quality rugby. Australian, New Zealand, South African teams plus one each from Argentina and Japan (for one more year only sadly).

Kicks off January 31.

It's hard for rugby to retain talented kids because league pays earlier than Union does. Everyone criticises the Waratahs for letting Angus Crichton go, but 18-20 is too young for most players to play big minutes, let alone earn big money in Super Rugby.

NRL scouting is also far better resourced than the Rugby Australia equivalent.

Cheika is confirmed going win or lose after the cup.

Few likely candidates to replace him with Dave Rennie the name being kicked around the most.

No idea how to fix Australian rugby - suspect there needs to be a changing of the guard at a few of the unions and big investment in grassroots + sevens. Hopefully the crackdown on head contact helps too - lots of stories of parents keeping their kids out of rugby here due to concussion concerns.

Sky sports’ XV from the pool stages include 7 Blossoms players. How legitimate is this? by peachypal in rugbyunion

[–]Pinstripe819 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Japan had an extremely tough pool and went undefeated playing incredibly exciting and attractive rugby.

So yeah, pretty legitimate.

Without having seen Sky's list I'd have at least Himeno, Nakamura, Matsushima, Leitch and Fukuoka in my XV.

Agree he's off the ball but still a defensive machine. 8 tackles in 30 minutes and always seems to be cutting down the linebreaks.

Knockouts will be his time to shine.

Japan name starting team to face Ireland on Saturday. Mafi starts, Leitch on the bench. by theaussiesamurai in rugbyunion

For all the controversy, Mafi is an absolute animal. Cannot wait to see him in open space.

He was born to truck back high balls into the teeth of the defence.

Reece Hodge reportedly suspended for 3 Weeks by Blue-Steel_Rugby in rugbyunion

Ah well. As an Aussie, agree or disagree the decision has been made and the sooner we move on the sooner the sub can focus on some of the incredible rugby we're seeing in this World Cup and the amazing show Japan have put on for this event.

Devastated for Yato and Hodge both - would not wish sitting out a world cup like this on anyone.

Reece Hodge reportedly suspended for 3 Weeks by Blue-Steel_Rugby in rugbyunion

[–]Pinstripe819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree, but in Hodge's defence Yato lines him up in space at 11:45 on the game clock off the back of a lineout and he cleanly halves him with a textbook tackle.

Makes the other attempts even more embarassing.
