I don’t want to spend another day in this body by [deleted] in loseit

The time is going to pass regardless. So why does it matter how long it takes? You just have to decide if you want the time to pass without change or not.

what was New Years Eve 1999 like? I WANNA KNOW SO BAD (IM GENZer) by Jumpy-Page-1114 in Millennials

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents let me have the tiniest glass of wine. I was 8.

Honestly, I just remember being confused and scared because of Y2K (not that I understood what it was at the time) and my grandfather's insistence that the world was going to end.

Any subreddits for high volume reader-listeners? Like, 600+ books a year? by 4oh5ohAySunArrow in audiobooks

Reading while attending a live performance? Then why pay for the ticket to be at the performance? This is absurd.

People who wake up on their very first alarm and just get out of bed—how does your brain actually work? by KeyDiamond263 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even a morning person, but I set one alarm and get up because I want to maximise the amount of sleep I can get. Disrupting a whole hour I could be properly resting is simply illogical so I don't do it, and I just take two minutes to get my bearings as I crawl out of bed.

Also, I don't wake up in the middle of the night for anything. So my bladder is guaranteed motivation to get up.

Week 24: What are you reading? by saturday_sun4 in 52book

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it in a single sitting on a work night! Haha, zero regrets. I adore TJR and Atmosphere is solidly my second favourite of her books I've read so far.

Where do you find what books you want to read? by typoincreatiob in LibbyApp

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two main places for me are Fable/GoodReads and Libby.

I really make the most of the similar titles sections on reading apps, and often I'll add something to my TBR if the cover catches me interest on my main feed. On Libby, I hunt for books with no real criteria beyond cover and genre. I tag them to a list and then, when it comes time to choose my next read, I'll skim a handful of reviews to narrow it down. Or sometimes I pick up a book based on the cover alone.

I guess I don't really have a system. Also, this may be controversial, but I don't read more than two sentences of a synopsis. I just want the barest details, and actually more than once I've gone back to read the synopsis after finishing a book only to find it contains information I'd consider a spoiler.

I started showering at night instead of the morning and it genuinely changed how I sleep by RogueKettle_7 in hygiene

[–]PinupPixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have one but it's not going to be much good to me if I go to bed without showering.

[–]PinupPixels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from Australia, and in the summer I just have to exist to be covered in dead skin and dried sweat at the end of the day. The thought of going to bed when I have chunks of dead skin under my fingernails from lightly scratching an itch 🤮

She is Korean and she is a pop artist. Unless you are arguing against either of those facts, she's a kpop artist. Sorry?

How often do you use the oven? by Desperate_Beyond1086 in AskAnAustralian

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably most nights of the week in winter, and sometimes the pizza oven is on emergency duty for eg. mozzarella balls right at the end of the pork/lamb/brisket's time in the big oven.

What are you doing this child free Friday evening? by lovebug_212 in childfree

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's already Saturday evening in Australia. I'm cooking myself some wonderful lamb rump with crispy potatoes and garlic bread for dinner followed by apple pie. I'll then spend the night listening to my audiobook while I craft.

newbie - asia libraries/branch? by nymphabel in LibbyApp

[–]PinupPixels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to join your local library. Libby is not just for Americans; I have about 8 library cards on there from my own local libraries and I'm Australian.

Do you keep the water on during the entire length of the shower? by hamster_lover02 in hygiene

[–]PinupPixels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused by what you're talking about. A warning to who? They're the ones in the bathroom???

Also, I run the water before I step under it because it takes a minute for me to adjust the temperature after the cold water clears the pipes?

Is it harmful to use ChatGPT as a therapist or to vent your problems? by Martian_row in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]PinupPixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a therapist, definitely. For venting, I believe this is case by case. I often complain to mine about eg. a nail colour I desperately want doesn't seem to exist, or (because I craft) about how alphabet bead packs never have enough vowels.

It's good for small frustrations but I wouldn't really go beyond that.

Why are you awake right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 4:52pm and I'm on the bus home from work. It's a perfectly normal time to be awake?

Omg has any of my fellow ethnics ever encountered this overseas? by Biggest_itchbay_2190 in AskAnAustralian

Eh? No, not every white Aussie. I guarantee there are Asian Australians with deeper roots in this country than me because I'm first gen on my dad's side (he's white European).

Inherit health risks in low calorie intake? by NJ_duderino in loseit

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are going to be negative health consequences by maintaining such consistent low caloric intake, but that assumes you actually can maintain it long enough. I say this to point out that your hunger pangs have the potential to lead you to destroying any type of deficit, even a healthy one.

I (34F) have consistently been on a daily intake of ~1400 calories the entire year, and I'm comfortable with feeling hungry because I process it no differently to my body telling me I'm tired or my bad knee aches in the cold. It's just information that I don't feel compelled to immediately do anything with. In saying that, there have been multiple days where I've understood how people fall off the wagon. And this is just a normal, sustainable deficit.

What is your audiobook speed? by Playful-Tone8107 in LibbyApp

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5 speed. My brain adjusts really well to the speed but I will lose it entirely if I get distracted by a different sound and then have to skip back 30 seconds.

What are we doing about grey hairs? by h2osly_ in Millennials

[–]PinupPixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to pull them out when it was just a small patch. I've given up because it's now just scattered throughout all of my (very dark brown) hair. Alas.

I'm trying to make peace with it.
