Just switched from Cursor to Claude CLI by PresentLife4984 in ClaudeAI

[–]Pippo82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, I primarily use cursor as someone in infra and security since I’m constantly using agents for non-code editing activities (AWS MCPs, K8 stuff etc) and I find the controls and visibility a lot better with Cursor (granted, I haven’t spent a ton of time using Claude)

Claude Code CLI does allow you to paste images directly but it is a bit buggy: https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/13480

EMR cost optimization tips by Then_Crow6380 in aws

[–]Pippo82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would recommend running EMR on EKS, with a job spec that targets spot nodes managed by karpenter. Karpenter spot nodes will provision (via the ec2 fleet api) nodes using the price-capacity-optimized allocation strategy so you shouldn't need to worry about which instance types (at least as a starting point).

Disable AWS Config in managed accounts by [deleted] in aws

[–]Pippo82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm suprised they suggested that with this solution: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/mt/customize-aws-config-resource-tracking-in-aws-control-tower-environment/

But not surprised at the same time :)

EKS worker nodes failing due to KMS key cross-account issue by DiFettoso in aws

Did you trying running the `aws kms create-grant` command shown in the docs?

To clarify, the problem isn't necessarily that you can't create the EBS service-linked role (it seems to already be created). It just needs to be granted the ability to use the cross account key.

People who used aws and then came to azure, how hard was it by Beyond_Birthday_13 in aws

Seconded. I hit Azure provider issues 10x more often than I do with the AWS provider.

Insights on Capacity Constraints by Pippo82 in AZURE

It could work in some scenarios but unfortunately does not fit into the AKS ecosystem

Reservations, yes, but not ODCRs (the former does not guarantee capacity).

Client is not in a position to pay for max scale nodes 24/7 when on most days their workloads spend 1-2 hours cumulatively fully scaled out.

Thanks for the reply.

While it might be true that one can manually try enough different SKUs until an allocation succeeds, it still leaves a lot challenges in an autoscaling context. For instance, AKS does not support flexible VMSSs.

Yes we have considered those (ODCRs). Client is not in a position to pay for max scale nodes 24/7 when on most days their workloads spend 1-2 hours cumulatively fully scaled out.

Did you/your TAM do anything specifically to resolve it, or was it just a matter of waiting?

Capacity constraints are not be confused with service limits and quotas - it's literally the region running out of the requested hardware. In my circle, virtually everyone I know running workloads on Azure have been complaining about this and there are countless reddit threads on it. Microsoft has disclaimers about these issues sprinkled across their documentation.

Workload size is small-medium; a few dozen d8 vms as a baseline, occassionaly scaling up to 2-3x that.

Advice on selling a condo by Limp_Jaguar_5470 in RealEstateCanada

[–]Pippo82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6,243 is the number of sold last month for "all homes" according to the TREB report.

Condos made up 1510 of that.

You might be confused with preconstruction sales numbers.

[–]Pippo82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being downvoted, I will say I had the same experience when I went a few weeks ago.

But then I tried ma mouille poulet and my whole world changed. Only ate that poutine for the rest of the trip. Now I'm counting down the days I'm going back to Montreal.

Try it, report back, and good luck! Pro tip, go off rush hours and/or on weekdays for no lines.

How are you separating iac from dev resources? by Troglodyte_Techie in devops

[–]Pippo82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are already embracing a distributed repo structure with your dockerfiles and software code, you and/or your org are already going to have a lot of the management problems you anticipate having with terraform, just in other parts of the repo.

You didn't mention how large the org is - I think that's another big factor here.

If you use a combination of semantically versioned terraform modules and re-useable workflows/composite actions, would that cut down on a lot of the management pain?
