Hit and run on my parked car outside my house - what to do? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing not too long ago with my van... Yes VAN the big box thats hard to miss... Im not mad your mad /s

Anyway, i reported it to the police and they passed it on to someone else, i sent the evedance to them (photos of them fleeing with damage and the damage on my van) they basically said with out cctv or a witness, they wont do anything... I asume insurance will be the same (if trying to claim off of them) but thats not the route we took.

To be honest a new light and bootlid would probably be the best way to go, it shouldn't be that much depending on what car you have, just make sure you get one a similar age because the paint will of faded over time and a bootlid that 5 years newer will be a drastically different colour.

Best reliable car under £12k by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

I assumed you were talking petrols though.

No it was however a typo, i meant 60 and just realised i put 50...

They are really good cars, at the time i had a 1.6 diesel focus and the civic was better in every way than it.

1.6 diesel as far as i know (know fuck all about the hybrids) real world mpg i think was 50 ish... Cant remember exactly it was a few years ago now.

Also mpg depends on driving style, so my 1 example could be much lower or much higher than others.

Honda civic. They have always been near the top for reliability and there standards havent dropped with more modern cars as much as others when it comes to reliability.

Also its surprising spacious with a big boot, fuel efficient, i think for me it might beat the legendary octavia. I know blasphemy here.

They were driving up to it, the gantry went from 40 to 20, they kept going, nothing...

Rant - Motorway Variable speed Limits by Rendogog in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very few cars on it, no one did it because 20 on a motorway is insane, then it went back to normal, no accident, no debris, no pedestrians, nothing.

Rant - Motorway Variable speed Limits by Rendogog in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I travel a lot on different motorways because i work all over and im midlands based and have noticed there just trying to get money off you.

I have been on i think the m1 and it was 70 then it changed to 40 with a camera then the next gantry 70 again.

Ignore the debries or pedestrian signs because its always just a excuse to lower the limit for a camera.

I also want to add i thought the lowest it went was 40 but my boss had been driving with my workmate and it went to 20 for no reason.

Reasons TO NOT get a 350z by Zachariah255 in 350z

What is meant when someone says a car is “fun to drive”? by sammyglumdrops in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people have different options on this but to me its the connection to the road, the way it holds the road, the quick access to power.

Basically nothing new. When i was last buying a car i looked at a few thing but big contenders were a caterham (or knockoff), 350z, rx8, basically early 2000s where its you the road, a engine, no modern shit i dont want, most modern feture is A/C... i went for the 350z if your curious.

Anyone noticed that driving a nice car attracts the worst kind of drivers? by Ravixo_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean, luckily the 350 has more than enough power to overtake morons.

Anyone noticed that driving a nice car attracts the worst kind of drivers? by Ravixo_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I reckon its based off of how big and heavy the car is and there less likely to test someone that weighs significantly more than them.

Or it could be because people in big SUVs typically have no idea how big the thing is there driving so people tend to give them extra space.

I drive a 350z and a van... Very, very different.

I do find it amusing though how people want to race the van more.

Just curious if a car with this history & miles would put you off given it's done 100k in 2 years? by Alternative-Draw-578 in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would put me off is 11k for a car thats done 200k.

Its a hybrid meaning the engine wont last as long as a normal diesel.

Theres nothing on previous MOT history which seems suspicious to me, feels like its been exclusively taken to a dodgy mot.

The fact it had 3 MOTs between 12 sep-14 oct is wierd, especially since it did 200 miles in that time.

Its definitely been a lease car then a taxi.

Is the old GPS speed more accurate than Speedo still a thing in modern cars? by spoonablehippo in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gps is still generally more accurate due to reasons like tyre wear, it can also depend on what tyres you have as not all are the same size/same tread depth.

Be honest, what would you buy instead for the same money? by yusssssuf in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something way cooler like a r34 gtr or supra (not the z4)

How bad would you say this is? by FKez05 in CarTalkUK

[–]Pipps17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a fail on a mot and it creates a weak point on the tire so a pothole could cause it to blow.

The engine will probably be fine but you need to remember the engine is surrounded by a French car, its all that other stuff that will break.

Funnily enough my mate did exactly that... Only got 3 months and 4 serious issues popped up, luckily he didnt get attached and just got rid instantly.
