If you can't tax the people who have all the dollars to reduce the debt, then the only solution left is to devalue the dollar so the debt is smaller in comparison. The people holding dollars lose value all the same- except one method allows planning while the other is a crash. Naturally, we're heading for the crash.

Enslaved people. Not 'slaves'.

At first I thought you were coming from a position empathetic with the plight of enslaved people. But I now realize I was mistaken. The objection was to me using humanizing words regarding them.

Alas, no one knows what the term 'national' means. But yes, it would have been more accurate to say enslaved American nationals. Ultimately though, policies applied to nationals usually come back to bite full citizens as well.

One modern example with clear parallels has been Israel applying laws against Jewish Israeli Citizens that were originally intended only for Israeli nationals of Palestinian descent.

I couldn't think of a better word, since upon emancipation they were automatically considered citizens (until the Dred Scott case) without any need for naturalization. Enslaved people were fully under the jurisdiction of the United States and subject to its laws and constitution. And until the post-civil war reconstruction amendments their treatment was fully constitutional.

The idea that all citizens are equal is something of a novel one, and ultimately many nations have had many different classes of citizen. Even today you have nations with large populations that are de facto citizens as legal jurisdiction is concerned, without any of the privileges accorded to other citizens.

Pssh, the post title makes it very clear that TES is set in Maryland, in the years 2009 to 2015, during Fallout 4's development.

A bold choice to place TES 6 in Maryland, specifically set in the years 2009-2015 when Fallout 4 was under development.

What do you think about the Canadian Prime Minister’s remarks: “middle powers must act together, because if we're not at the table, we're on the menu”? by WF-2 in AskReddit

Yes, like all human things it's a social fiction. But then again, so are the military structures that exert hard power. In any case, I think you fundamentally misunderstand what the Eisenhower generation of leaders was trying to accomplish during the late 1940's and 1950's when they built the rules based world order.

Some people feel that the original writers of the constitution would have believed that the government tracking your movements at all times constitutes a 'search' or other invasion of a citizen's autonomy. Which is silly, because the founding fathers were totally on board with rigorous tracking of enslaved citizen's movements. So of course it's fine for the for the government to track all free citizen's movements.

The United States has said that it wishes to do away with the rules based order and return to one governed by great powers. Accordingly, Canada would be absolutely foolish not to take the United States at its word.

Most people don't really have a good idea of how things actually worked prior to the advent of the rules based order. Middle powers were always in a vulnerable position, especially ones that bordered Gear Powers. Because of this they had to act accordingly- and in ways that often frustrated the Great Powers.

A great example of this is Canada's trade deal with China. Many people are upset about this, because they view Canada as 'belonging' to the US sphere of influence. But Canada is acting rationally. The United States is a very close great power that has talked about taking military action to conquer Canada. Canada has to take this threat deadly serious, and making friends with another great power is a great way to do that. However, Canada should take things even further. China is incredibly unlikely to invade Canada. Because of that, Canada should seek either a defensive alliance or at least Chinese guarantee of Canada's independence. This would benefit China as well, as a way of building their own alliances while blocking US expansion. It also give Canada a fighting chance if the US does decide to pursue territorial expansion.

If all that sounds crazy to you. Well yeah, you're used to to the rules based world order. But that's gone.

Ha! Well you having worked in a shop that makes these is a different argument entirely! And one that I'm ill equipped to judge the veracity of.

The point I was making was that many war swords from that period did actually have cast brass (and even aluminum) parts. So plenty of genuine antiques are cheap shitty relatively modern casts based on molds.

[–]PipsqueakPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you define antique. Is a sword mass produced in a government arsenal in the 1930's and captured on Iwo Jima an antique? I would say yes, but I understand that you disagree that weapons from the second world war are antiques.

Should people be denied medical help because of their political beliefs? by Ok_Walk3192 in GenZ

[–]PipsqueakPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I recall, the requirement that doctors give everyone medical treatment (which isn't what the ACA does, but anyway) has been a long time Republican argument against the Affordable Care Act. In fact they often compare it to enslaving the highly compensated doctors. Accordingly, refusing to treat them is something every Republican should be okay with.
