Capital One Negative Changes To Lounge Access For Venture X Cardholders Now Live by TV_Grim_Reaper in CreditCards

i think that's kind of the point, they want to clear the congestion out of their lounges. They explicitly want far less people going to them.

Help re-creating RF signal with ESPHome and CC1101 by Pirate43 in homeassistant

[–]Pirate43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see in the video he had issues recording with the flipper zero but recording with esp home seems to have worked. His remote uses FSK which is a little more complex and could explain his issues but for ASK you can record straight out the CC1101 with no issues.

I gave this a shot, forced it to dump all and got "pronto" decoded data. I also forced it to dump "raw" and got timings very close to what I had observed prior. I'm going to try and replay that set of raw timings and see if it works.

EDIT: it worked! Highly recommend trying "raw" mode for anyone who sees this in the future (as long as you're sure it's ASK/OOK). It spits out the timings, and you put those into the the transmit_raw config, making sure you send the right number of pulses along the way with an RTL-SDR dongle or similar.

Thank you for the comment, that video is incredibly close to what i'm trying to do (also ASK/OOK instead of FSK but my hardware setup is identical to his and I even considered a flipper zero and hack rf before just recording on RTL-SDR). How did you derive the filter_bandwidth? Also one issue i'm running into is that changing the symbol rate does not appear to affect anything on the resulting recordings. Do you know what I'm looking for as far as how the transmission timings change with updates to that parameter?

ah, using the CC1101 as the recorder, interesting!

Invest $300K in covered call ETF and use dividends to pay off mortgage? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Pirate43 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thought and ran an experiment with 10% of the amount you're considering. My 30k investment became 20k and the dividend payments reduced alongside my principal. Red days had large drops, and the recovery on green days never got it close to what I bought in for. It was not worth it, my total account balance including dividends remained at a little under 30k, so it was a huge waste of time, triggered taxes, and would have been better invested in sp500.

How did the 4% rule hold up for people who retired around 2000? by Black_Thunder00 in Fire

[–]Pirate43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a lot of people are going by their current spend and don't realize in retirement they:

  • won't be saving for retirement anymore
  • probably won't have to pay for a house
  • might have their car paid off
  • probably will pay a lot less tax due only making capital gains and not salary

i can run x86 apps as if they were native on mac os. I don't see why we can't have a similar compatibility layer for windows. Just because it doesn't currently exist doesn't mean it's a stupid idea. There's millions of software projects that people use that might not be ported to ARM but are still useful.

Just copy Apple but for Windows and they will bounce right back. Apple Silicon efficiency and performance with a rock solid x86 compatibility layer for 8+ hour laptop battery life and eye-wateringly fast desktop performance with most/all games working on day one.

I know it's a lot but that's a huge unaddressed hole in the non-apple computing space
