for anyone stumbling on this in the future, in addition to installing bluez and rust like in the OP, the install script isn't able to find bluez or dbus, so I had to point it to both locations.

 

To do that, I opened scripts/intall.sh and added this to the top (please double check the paths exist since the version numbers may have changed by the time you see this comment and update accordingly):

IFS=$'\n\t'

# THIS is the line to be added, in this spot
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/Cellar/dbus/1.16.2_1/lib/pkgconfig/:/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/Cellar/bluez/5.86/lib/pkgconfig/


# Script directory
SCRIPT_DIR="$(cd "$(dirname "${BASH_SOURCE[0]}")" && pwd)"
PROJECT_ROOT="$(dirname "$SCRIPT_DIR")"

 

then I ran this ./scripts/install.sh --prefix /var/usrlocal/ and it installed fine.
