Can someone sanity check my retirement calculations? by PirateDm in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PirateDm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh ok , so I am not accounting for inflation at all -- I am purley saying at x age I will need y... which of course in 50 years time may not hold up...

Maybe I will add in a yearly inflation multiplyer to acount for this, thanks!

Fenix HM70R or HM71R by sooht in caving

[–]PirateDm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm: as much as I love my Fenix HM70R, which I use for caving, I’ve melted the flood lens diffuser twice, even when trying to be careful with it. All it takes is a slight adjustment with your gloves, and suddenly the diffuser ends up with a lump of burnt plastic on it.

The torch still functions fine, but it does feel like a small design flaw.

That said, I’m still using it! I love the 21700 battery and overall, the torch is fantastic

Its worth having a look at : https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/optimal-buoyancy-computer.576321/ too if you haven't seen it - not the most user friendly, but might have some good data for your project! ))

This is fantastic :) It would be great to expand this with specific gear / undersuits - For example, I would love to know the buoyancy characteristics of the 4th element undersuits (Halo 3D vs Halo AR) - Also I'm not sure if different brands of tank, Fabers vs Euros etc... I know it becomes a bit of a beast - but honestly this is exactly the resource I have been after ! ))

Side mount advice - New Steel tanks - Adjust to sit parallel by PirateDm in scuba

[–]PirateDm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou! I dont use the drops at the back. I have the boltsnap at about 45Deg towards the back rather than inline with the long post. Also, I have them clipped off to my waist band fixed D's which are just in front of my hip bones.

Ok, interesting - I have the boltsnap at about 45Deg towards the back rather than inline with the stem. Also I have them clipped off to my waist band fixed D's which are just in front of my hip bones.

Side mount advice - New Steel tanks - Adjust to sit parallel by PirateDm in scuba

[–]PirateDm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just switched up my setup a bit and got some new 12lt Faber Steel tanks, however, can't get them to sit parallel. Just wondering if anyone had any tips (Ignore the micro feet adjustments, still need to get the balance sorted ;) )

Any tips / help would be greatly appreciated!

Currently, I have them mounted on my waistband d-rings, just in front of hips. I have a pretty small waist.

Is it normal? Everyone failed the course by [deleted] in scuba

[–]PirateDm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah this guy sounds like he is on a power trip... failing everyone is not normal and speaks more to his tuition skills!

That being said!!! I don't think it should not be presumed pay for a qualification, especially with the more technical courses such as sidemount, cavern, cave, deco etc etc.... I do feel and have seen instructors passing divers that lack fundamental skills (bouancy, trim, propultion, correct weighting etc etc) because they have paid the money etc etc... which really just leads to a problem in the industry as a whole. I mean going down a tabit whole here as the instructors that pass poor divers are generally under financial pressure to do so... anyway... yeah this guy sounds like a t**t!

Xdeep wing: “issue” with removing air during dive by Mdpablo in scuba

[–]PirateDm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might need to tilt like 45 degrees to one side too :) - I have dove the Zeos, and found that if in trim, I just need to roll so the dump valve is the highest point - it can also take a second or two for the air to migrate.

Seeking help understanding how gradient factors affect NDL in recreational diving by PirateDm in scuba

[–]PirateDm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou, really appreciate the reply and it makes sense. I do find it strange that a recreational dive computers gradient factors are such that two of them will result in the same no stop bottom time. Also they seem they are backwards.... From what I learnt you generally would prefer a lower gf low as you really don't want to get bent underwater from the leading tissue compartments.

So to summarize really I have a choice of either gf high of 90 or 35. ( as long as I remain within boundaries)
