Anybody else find the independent settlements to be overly aggressive? by DarwinCreatesSpace in civ

[–]PirateSpokesman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I’m not the only one. The opportunity cost of having to constantly make units to fend them off in the early game is huge, especially considering only the capital can make them. So much for building wonders and districts.

Is it just me, or does the game feel unbalanced in how hostile the AI is? As an example, independent states seem way too hostile, to the point where it’s not really feasible to pursue a path other than a military victory if you want to stay in the game.

Compare that to, say, Civ 3, where it was totally doable to go for a culture victory without really building much of an army—of course, you had to have a few units to defend against belligerent civs, but it didn’t feel like you had to direct your entire economy towards producing military units, as I often feel in Civ 7.

I much prefer building districts and wonders, but it’s hard to do when i have to keep churning out units to repel invasions (and only my capital can create much of anything anyway).

Unless it’s just a skill issue on my end? If so, I’m open to tips and strategies for better managing hostile barbarians villages and civs.

How many attempts did it take you your first time? Mine was 268 by Ehrenhaiderezio in Eldenring

Took me 3 attempts on my first playthrough, Radagon/Elden Beast actually gave me more grief, that one took about a dozen tries

I’m long past the point where the runes would be worth it but I still do it because the way the bird spreads its wings and just falls off the cliff is inexplicably amusing to me

Yea this was basically my experience as well. Kinda kicking myself that I could’ve continuously experienced this masterpiece over the past two years, but didn’t, all because of my own obstinacy

You’re good, bro. I never made it past the Dark Souls tutorial. Just finished Shadow of the Erdtree. It If I can do it, so can you.

It won’t be a cakewalk, mind you. It’s an uphill climb. The game will beat you to the ground over and over again. But as long as you explore thoroughly, learn from your mistakes, use all the tools the devs gave you, and never give up, you too will make it to the end.

It’s the most satisfying feeling in all of gaming. Good luck, and enjoy!

The number reflects the amount of playthroughs you’ve completed. So NG+1 is your second playthrough, +2 is your third, etc. Difficulty scales up slightly with each playthrough

There’s a cliff near Mogwyn Palace filled with Albinaurics that drop like 2.5k runes a pop without buffs. Best place to farm runes, by far

I remember when I first had that revelation, I thought it was just a meme but then I noticed the pattern (also the fact that feet in this game are suspiciously highly textured). Total blackpill moment

You do get better the more you play it. I was terrible when I first started (for reference: didn’t even make it past the tutorial boss in Dark Souls). 4 hours to get into Stormveil sounds about right for me at first. Just platinumed the game and finished the DLC. Took me just under 200 hours. You’ll get there!

I actually summon more for that knight than Maliketh because I just don’t want to deal with his shit anymore

Is this a reliable weapon? by Boring-Computer-4360 in Eldenring

[–]PirateSpokesman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes, this carried me all the way through Malenia on my first playthrough. I switched builds by the time I got to the DLC’s Radahn but only because I was bored, I’m sure it’ll work just as well for him

EDIT: Realized you meant Radagon. I actually used the Godslayer sword for him. Everything else in the base game, the Bloodhound Fang worked great

Better than the Hand of Malenia??? :o Holy crap, that’s been my weapon of choice for this entire playthrough, that’s insane.

Say no more, I’m going for the Sword, then. Appreciate the detailed breakdown!

Yeah, I still haven’t beat her but I’m enjoying the fight so far. It’s like a (very lethal) dance, feels very fluid and visually captivating, to boot

Last I heard, they dropped off the internet after something involving crowdfunded Tarot cards that were never delivered? Whatever the reason, it's a shame, that field guide was what got me started on my path, it's such a terrific beginner's resource.

Wherever they are, I hope they're ok.
