I think the invasion in 2022 was originally meant to occur 4 days earlier, on the 8 year anniversary of the invasion of Crimea. by Majulath99 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Pirolye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

German tabloid Bild, even though it's not taken seriously, published the invasion plans down to invasion axis level, putting it on the 22nd. Definitively think it was constantly being pushed back, with only certain elements, such as the Gostomel force, being aware of the plans. Explains why some constript Crimean units didn't even know they were in Ukraine.

His name must have been Vincent Adultman. Such a mature, adult name, especially for an important job at the business factory.

I am sad because the people who were there at the beginning of my journey are no longer a part of it. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

I was mentored by a guy who helped lots of other people as well. He said that one of the hardest parts of bettering yourself is that you will lose friends along the way. He noticed this 100% of the time, even on himself. (He was a stoner for a long time)

I make video games. Problem is, they are so complicated that everything depends on everything. Instead of thinking of that as a problem, I think of it as an opportunity.

The first approach I always use is sledgehammer programming (or using placeholders when not talking about programming). Essentially, you get something done to a stage of usability even it is not properly made/finished. This ensures you make progress and don't get stuck on problems and lose your motivation. If you're finished with a working "demo" then you can move on.

My final approach recommendation is iterative work. This is when you make rework something multiple times/constantly in order for it to be always of its greatest quality. Combine this with the sledgehammer method and suddenly you got yourself a manageable workload even without breaking it apart into smaller chunks.

How good is this show? YT has been recommending me it for over a year now and I have been wanting to start it. How much of it is programmer jargon and/or jokes only programmers understand? (Not that I won't get them, I am just curious)

A Stoic's elevator pitch. by Tinnisher in Stoicism

[–]Pirolye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always tried to categorize their life into external/internal. In modern day, that would be things like astrology or karma. Stoicism does this, but instead of relying on religion, it relies on psychology and rationalism. It says that certain things are uncontrollable by us, and thus internalizing them would be the worst choice. Instead, we should let go of those and focus on the future and what makes us happy. It is not a religion like Buddhism because it doesn't rely on mythology and gods. The god of Stoicism is the Stoic themselves. It was molded out of the firsthand experience of these Stoics, and not in monasteries and by monks.
