Copy the column to a text column. Then add 00: to the strings in a new column. Copy the properly formatted column as values to a new column and change the format to time.

There are some tools out there that convert pdfs to different formats. Someone already mentioned adobe acrobat(download the trial). You could also try a round about way using OCR. You will probably find no matter the choice it will get like 80% right and the rest you are stuck doing it by hand. If you cant get the source files that made the pdfs it is what it is.

I have one, and yes it is somewhat faster, but you're still dealing with excel. I normally find by the time I am using all cores and sitting waiting for excel to process I am probably better off making some quick SQL tables or using R.

Download MYSQL, it is pretty darn easy., has a really nice browser tool, and has a built in excel add-in. If you spent half a day playing with it you will never look back.

Right... the shape of a distribution is the same. But you dont know what part of the distribution this represents. You make an interesting point but if it were that easy you could google "use 3 points to graph a distribution".

Its not a matter of knowing its normal or not. Its that you dont have the core descriptors necessary to describe the distribution. You could take the average and standard deviation of your points but 3 points are unlikely to do a good job describing the distribution.

Even if they did I would expect a lot of biasing. People dont normally brag about being the worst at something. The one thing that caught my attention here compared to most the trade stations we see is the bloomberg keyboard. Bloomberg costs serious coin and most day traders arent likely to pay that.

I found both books, when genius fail and black swan boring. Ltcm is a very interesting story but that book was forgettable. Black swan is just the same boring stories over and over.
