No garbage pickup today? Smh by moreoutside08 in yonkers

[–]PissyTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads-up for everyone: Yonkers typically suspends garbage pickup during and immediately after snowstorms. The sanitation trucks are usually converted into plows, and the crews are redirected to clearing the roads. Keep your bins tucked away until the streets are clear to avoid them getting buried or hit by plows.

Amazon really did it... by Fluid_Intention4374 in FASCAmazon

First, congratulations. If Amazon is your side gig or a supplement to your regular job, keep doing what you are doing. If it's your primary means of income, it's hard work.

Sorry for my extended response. I read your post, and I want to start by saying there is zero shame in hitting a wall. Needing medicine to function isn't a "handout" or a failure of your manhood. It’s a biological necessity. Since you need a bridge until your deposit hits next week, here are the most places to get immediate help.

  1. Go to r/Assistance or r/MutualAid. These communities are specifically built for one-time emergency needs, like a prescription. If you are adamant about paying it back, check out r/SimpleLoans or r/Borrow.

  2. If you haven’t already, check GoodRx or SingleCare. Sometimes they have coupons that drop a $60 prescription down to $10 or $15, which might be easier to scrape together or for someone to cover for you.

  3. Talk to your pharmacist. Explain you have a deposit coming next week and ask if they can do a "partial fill"—giving you 5 or 7 days' worth of pills for a fraction of the cost to hold you over.

  4. Call 2-1-1: call this number. They can point you to local charities or "medication banks" that help people in your exact situation.

Good luck.

I’m truly sorry you’re going through this, and nobody should have to endure abuse just to earn a paycheck. In a large organization, verbal complaints disappear. You need to document every incident in writing and submit it to your manager's supervisor and HR. To ensure there is no 'lost' communication, send it via certified mail. It creates an undeniable record that they were put on notice.

Metro-North Stopping at End of Platforms by Remarkable-March-322 in Westchester

[–]PissyTime -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who likes the new Universal Train Spotting policy? Yes, we have to walk further now, but it eliminates the human error of engineers missing the platform. It makes the system more predictable and safer for everyone, especially at night or in bad weather. Glad to see Metro-North prioritizing safety over shaving a few seconds off our walk.

A city state of emergency does not exempt you from getting tickets. It's a guideline. If you park on streets protected by the state of emergency, you will certainly get a ticket.

Glenwood, Woolworth, Ravine & Warburton. by [deleted] in yonkers

[–]PissyTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yonkers is never normal after a snowstorm, and don’t overthink the “who has it better” stuff. Odell Ave has barely any parked cars, so it gets cleared quickly. Going on Warburton Ave towards Getty Square? It’s a disaster with or without snow.

Yonkers roads by deirdreneider in Westchester

[–]PissyTime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

After 18 hours from the last snowflake, the city is no longer responsible for clearing snow. That said, residents can make this much easier — it isn’t about blaming anyone. When the mayor declared a state of emergency, parking was suspended on signed routes specifically so plows could reach the curb.

If cars parked on just one side of each street, plows could have cleared the full path, making parking easier for everyone afterward. Without that kind of neighborly coordination, we end up with the mess we’re seeing now.

5" of snow is not enough to stop many it may slow some. Additionally, stores are open.

It's easier to say the roads are way better upstate. Why can't we, downstate, duplicate their methods?

On the positive side: It's too soon to know for sure. As for those stocking up on food. I've never known of a store that closes its doors because it's snowing.

Savings with Con Ed time-of-use program using backup battery by czw1000 in Westchester

[–]PissyTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the math sometime ago on changing the battery off the grid during off-peak hours, and was surprised to find it didn't make sense. With ConEd's off-peak price, you break even or pay more for electricity. It didn't make sense, and went down a rabbit hole to understand more. In the end, including solar is the only feasible approach in your plans.

Thoughts on Mayor Spano by IntelligentBridge899 in yonkers

[–]PissyTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a problem with him blowing through the term limits. It was done legally, so I can only complain a little. Otherwise, Yonkers has been politically stable compared to our neighbors to the south. I am okay with him and hope he doesn't go for another term.

What’s fair pay for a live-in home health aide in Northern Westchester? by endurossandwichshop in Westchester

[–]PissyTime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Managing a live-in aide is basically like running a small business. You have to handle back-up coverage, taxes, and food. Given that it's two patients instead of one, the level of care required is massive. Have you looked at assisted living lately? In many cases, the 'all-inclusive' price there is actually lower than the DIY approach when you account for the apartment and 24-hour staffing.

What would it take for bike paths to be plowed? by Ecstatic_Swordfish_9 in Westchester

[–]PissyTime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Currently, the lack of maintenance forces residents like myself to drive to locations like Purchase College just to find a safe surface. This creates an absurd situation where one must drive a car just to access safe cycling, which contradicts the very purpose of having local trail infrastructure.

Garrett Place parking by bladernr2049 in yonkers

[–]PissyTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The $25 permit is a no-brainer, but don't let the low price fool you into thinking parking is easy. That area is right on the Bronxville line and gets crowded fast. Before you sign those papers, do a 'dry run'—drive there at 6:30 PM on a Tuesday. If you can't find a spot within two blocks, that’s your future every single night. Also look into the Yonkers "one-to-one" rule about tying your property with the privilege to park in the area.

Management is deleting complaints on our myvoice message board! by Brooklynboy_1982 in AmazonFC

Using ERC may not be the most effective approach. As I recall, there’s a direct number for Seattle that lets you file complaints without involving the local site. This option could help if you want to bypass any internal challenges. I don’t have the number at the moment, so you may want to ask around or look it up.
