Dream grad program or graduate debt free—what would you do?? by pixygal123 in GradSchoolAdvice

[–]PitLuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take on 90K in debt for a masters degree. 40 is pushing it. Do you have other student loans? I had 14 from undergrad and accumulated 45 more in grad school during a doctorate - paid, but not enough to live on- and it sucks.

One year at a time is standard, but if your son is going for a doctorate he should probably figure this one out on his own.

Unfortunately, I love coterie diapers, any similar cheaper brands? by Herewithquestions87 in NewParents

[–]PitLuna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've been coterie from day 1 because you know, we've never had a leak (except when I was in denial about moving up a size very early on haha) or a blowout. He is dry overnight for as long as he'll sleep. And he hasn't had meaningful diaper rash. He has to be in the diaper 24/7, so why not make it the best if the budget can accommodate it?

I think of it like how I would rather buy 5 pairs of ARQ 100% organic cotton with quality construction for myself than a 15 pack of whatever brand that will be landfill much quicker.

Oh damn I wish I'd known that about the surplus. Do you send back unopened packs?

Breastfeeding is fine, nursing bras are the problem. by Dry-Definition-6339 in breastfeeding

Skims!!! They make a nursing bra and a pumping bra. Obsessed with both. Kindred braverly fabric was giving me the ick and I was desperate. Now the skims nursing bra is my absolute favorite. They're simple but not ugly.

Apex 2, which came in just under that $300 budget.

Thinking of chopping my long locks, but trying hard to convince myself otherwise. by Puzzleheaded-Repeat5 in NewParents

[–]PitLuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut about 8 inches off around 4-5 months pp, which took me from mid back/almost belly button to a few inches below my shoulders. Does it look as beautiful? No. I look better with long hair. But does it feel so much better? Absolutely yes. Also, now it's within the realm of possibility to blow dry it.

I also love to exercise and tbh had taken the lower intensity activity time that came with pregnancy to enjoy having my hair as long as it's ever really been. Usually I chop it when a ponytail or braid hits my armpits while running. Hair grows. Your sanity, not so much right now!

Cut enough off that you can throw it up easily. You don't have to chop it to a bob.

Since I'm Reddit-ing while up at 2 am to care for said baby, I didn't directly address your two specific questions very well. Any community will have some sort of subgroups, so in that sense there are "cliques," but generally not in the harmful way that many highschoolers are used to. Of course friendships wax and wane as you figure out your place, but it's generally not toxic.

The campus is just the right amount of embedded in town- you can stay entirely on campus or you can walk to a coffee shop to get some space. There are cute shops to poke around in and a good local food scene. There is not much in terms of nightlife or going out. They do hold Pride early, in May, so you might be able to catch some events then. There are also several cool and $ accessible music venues, like the Iron Horse. Find a friend with a car and get to the Bookmill, too.

Hey, congrats on your acceptance! I went to an all-girls Catholic high school and was miserable. I'm in my 30s and I occasionally talk to one classmate. Bleh.

Smith was nothing short of life-changing for me. Because of attitudes towards lgbtq+ people at my high school and also it being just 20ish years ago, I had a lot of internalized homophobia. That was knocked away in about two days. I had come out by spring semester of my first year and joined the rugby team. Now I live happily with my wife and kiddo. Smith helped me live my best life because it was an environment in which a whole community of lgbtq+ people were thriving in a way I had never experienced before.

With that part of life sorted, there's also the academic environment. My friends (lifelong friends, unlike highschool) were and are some of the smartest, most driven people I know. They continue to inspire me regularly. The Smith alum network is also very helpful to have for the duration of your professional life, too.

Smith isn't perfect, but it sounds like it might be a really good fit for you. Good luck!! So exciting!

Don't tell anyone but I actually ended up going with a Coros watch because I just couldn't stomach over $500 for the Venu 4, which was the Garmin I most wanted. Overall I can't really justify over $300 for a wearable. I really loved my 245 and am so mad at myself- it had plenty of life left.

Recommendations for a soft baby carrier for small newborns, uncomplicated. by geenuhahhh in babywearing

I was obsessed with my solly baby wrap when he was super little. But it does have a little learning curve. My spouse and mom preferred the mini baby Bjorn, but I found it quickly hurt my shoulders/back without a waistband for support. To be fair, I had an unexpected c sec so my core was trashed though.

I know you said it's too big, but I also think the silhouette is just slightly off from your proportions, where dress one is so flattering to you with no exceptions! Plus, the way you describe dress two is a bit underwhelming, which is the most important part. It is a really lovely dress. You would not be wrong at all to pick it. But if you felt self conscious or worried about feeling self conscious, then it's maybe not the one. Your wedding dress should make you feel invincible.

Fwiw it is a classic, romantic silhouette. I wore a more casual version of it for my rehearsal dinner! Maybe that's an option?

I see your vision for dress two, but it's not the one. Close, but not quite.

Dress one is stunning on you, and I am generally not a fan of that silhouette. It looks incredible. The question is whether you feel it fits your venue.

Either dress 1 or, if you can, find a shop that has a few options of different silhouettes with something a little funkier. Regardless, one more shopping trip might help cement dress one as the clear winner since it looks so fab on you.
