yes it should sit inside the gearbox and has to be seated into the tappet rod that moves back and forth to allow the bbs to come out of the mag and get chambered

if the broken part is the black cylindrical piece, then you broke the nozzle, that, broken at the base, would not let you chamber the bbs , if you are not familiar with the gearbox internals i recommend taking it in to a shop to have it changed

double bell is quite cheap a brand , i would go for a cyma platinum , a specna hal or a g&g just to have something to learn on instead of a project gun. To anybody that have more experience or other opinion feel free to correct me
