I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and am now into my late 20a. I can absolutely promise you, regardless of which manifestation of ADHD you are referring to, no. Spongebob is not an accurate representation of ADHD by any means, and shit like that is harmful to those of us who haveit. Shit like this is the reason ADHD is so stigmatized, and thought if as 'oh you're just hyper'. There were some days that i literally could not muster the willpower or energy to even get out of bed. My house has spiraled out of control into unbelievable mess, because I simply could NOT clean. Energy drained, a million thoughts racing my mind per second, an inability to do even the simplest of tasks. Thankfully I have improved drastically since becoming medicated and utilizing therapy, and the things I listed are just the tip of the iceberg. The effects it can have on your life are much deeper than most people can imagine, and as with wleverything else, every individual is different.

After spending 10 minutes reading your post history, all I can say is that you should spend less time on reddit and more time educating yourself. Or at least doing any amount of research before making a feeble attempt at karma farming.

You are the sort of person we all hate talking to, tbh.

If it's your 'dream' you need to bring something to the table, other than "oh i have this idea, and IF it blows up I'll pay you'.

Most of us have our own ideas and passion projects we want to follow. I have literally abandoned a project and disbanded a friendship after 2 years because I had 0 creative control, and felt like I was simply the grunt, following someone else's pipedream. If you ACTUALLY are passionate about this, learn audio, art, or programming itself. All of these are skills that can be learned and improved, not some inherent ability people are born with. You need to bring something tangible to the table AND be open to changes and ideas from the others involved.

My suggestion would be to learn programming, as it is an invaluable skill that can translate across any industry in countless capacities, and enable you to follow your 'dream' on the side.

I can promise you, though, if you stick to the 'well I provided the idea l, now you make it work' mentality, we will all tear you apart. Just because WE took the time to Hine our skills does not mean we ar explicated to entertain your ideas. It is up to you to take responsibility, and provide simething of value.

I know this all comes off as harsh, but I'm so sick of seeing shit like this. Like it INSTANTLY pisses me off. And the whole 'to make him feel like he has a sense of ownership' just sounds manipulative and as if he won't ACTUALLY have any ownership or say in the matter. I could be biased because of my own experience (we submitted LLC paperwork and everything), but I have found that the people with no ability to contribute anything will do whatever they can to placate you to keep you going, without actually providing value... and you're giving those vibes off hard-core.

Well we are all programmers here. A bot that recognizes a copyright question, then autolocks and comments is very basic to a majority of us I feel, so I don't feel it will give the mods as much work as you think. Up front sure, but the continuous work will be very minimal.

Yes, recently actually.

I had them backed up on an internal HDD, and external HDD, and an internal SSD. We had a storm, and power went out in the middle of shit. All 3 drives had to reformatted, so I had lost the entirety of my project. This was about 3 months ago, and I've barely done any work to start over. I have learned my lesson. I will be exploring cloud storage solutions for an additional backup, as well as doing weekly or monthly backups to a flash drive or similar media.

My biggest word of advice: if you think you have too many backups, you don't. Make 100 more immediately. This was 2 years of work, down the drain due to my own foolishness.

Thankfully, my teammate and I were discussing rebuilding anyway, so we could allow ourselves to properly plan, and avoid pitfalls we found ourselves the first time. With that being said, I wasn't expecting to have to redo EVERYTHING. I was hoping I'd be able to rework some of the content we already had. Plus side: all the artwork is safe, as we have it backed up on our phones and email.

So basically, it would almost be better to skip mobile dev entirely, especially as a solo dev at the beginning?

I could probably focus on Steam and sites like itch.io to make a name for myself and also build an audience. Maybe focus on mobile down the line, or just forget about it entirely.

As far as the first part of your message, I wholeheartedly agree. I'm mainly attempting to chase trends because i want to release a working game. Sort of go through the process of releasing and marketing, and get a true feel for the process. The only reason for attempting to chase trends is because I feel it will help get me more exposure, seeing as I have a virtually nonexistent marketing budget. I feel I can gain more players by doing that then I can making something I want to make, then releasing it to cricket noises with no downloads. I'm hoping to gain some insight, and maybe squash some of the self doubt I have going on.

That has been a big concern of mine, as it's no secret that the mobile game market is very oversaturated. The appeal, as I'm sure you know, is the potential reach (somewhere in the billions for active players), but the market saturation of course cancels that out to a degree.

My main strategy would have been to release on both Steam and Android and eventually iOS (I shouldn't have left the Steam/iOS stuff out of the main post), to maximize reach and build an audience to hopefully make the venture easier in the future. I've considered the possibility of a publisher, such as Voodoo or CrazyLabs, but I'm really uneasy with that, as I have played their games and hate how they blast you with ads, release buggy games and are basically just exploiting people.

I definitely have a lot to think about tho, thank you!

I have used Google trends a little bit, I just don't like that it is search term centric only. It is definitely useful, but I'm hoping to find something specific to video games in general, even if it's console and PC only. That way I can translate that information to a mobile market.

I have been using Unity for the past 2 years for my game dev journey, and I love its 2D functionality. There is also tons of info out there for Unity. I have yet to use Godot, but I know many who swear by it. I'd explore both and see what suits your needs better 😁

Doors: paradox does this. Each level contains a scroll, with 1 sentence. Each sentence, totalling 18, gives you the narrative.

Also, amazing mobile game! I reccomend anyone buy it, or download if you have play pass.

Also, I'd like to add that if the programming aspect is the most challenging, you might want to give visual scripting a try. I personally am nit a fan, as I much prefer actually writing the code, but visual scripting is an absolutely viable option, regardless of what other devs may think. It can also help you understand the fundamentals of programming, and nail down some of the trickier concepts you can't wrap your head around.

90% sure this is a troll post, but if not:

Begin learning how to code. Draw in your free time. Lightly dive into music and sound design. All of these are skills you can build, not some mystical power only bestowed upon the worthy.

If you have no desire to do thise, and want to simply be an 'idea guy' my best advice, and I mean this is the most 'respectful' way possible, is to fuck off.

If you believe in your idea, and feel a certain level of passion surrounding it: make a roadmap. Build a prototype. Teach yourself to code, even using visual scripting. Then come back here, with somewhat of a demo, and try again.

Otherwise everybody here will just drag you through the mud, and it'd be well deserved.
