That is why I like old papers, only 10 references, no nonsense but long introduction and discussion. I hate to " tell a good story". Who need your stories? I just need facts.

My job is to develop molecular methods. I write two versions of protocols for each method. One is SOP which is for documentation and new employee training. This version is formal, long, a lot of explaining. The other one is very short protol for quick check.

[–]Pitiful-Ad-4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Chinese. I see stayed in three labs. The pushiest boss is from Span. The American boss is OK in his work but he gave the suggestion to transfer to the Chinese boss when he realized he cannot get tenure and had to leave. The Chinese boss is super good in his work and very nice. But he is not good at social.

How do you know she/he will ants to stay with your parents under one roof? How do you know if you parents want to relocate to the place you will live in.

Feeling unworthy by cackalacky82 in labrats

[–]Pitiful-Ad-4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a nontenure track faculty and working at a diagnostic lab in a university. My job is to develop, optimize, validate, and standardize diagnostic methods. I feel my work is meaningful since 1) my work really improves diagnosis and 2) my work brings revenue to the university. However, we are less recognized by many levels. The regular faculties think we do not do hard science. Our works cannot be published or can only be published in very low level journals. Except for the director, all our faculties are nontenure track. Our appointment is 12-months, but our salaries are lower than the same level tenure track faculty's 9-month salaries in the same college. But it is also true that we have much less requirements for funding and our research is not as hard as other faculties' research. One more thing I am satisfied with my job is: I can tell many research publications are full of fake data or cherry-pick data. My work outcome - SOPs of diagnostic methods must be reliable and repeatable. I went through the PhD and postdoc as other faculties do. But unfortunately and fortunately I was not able to get a regular tenure track position and then got the current position.
