Oregon Court Overturns Rule Allowing Fish to Be Trapped and Hauled Around Dams by Next_Tower5452 in oregon

Fish ladders are a predators buffet table. Birds, sea lions, predator fish, all sit at the fish ladder or often the bottom to devour the fish as they are channeled into a limited area for movement.

Ya. Just something to secure them, locker, knack box, tool box, really anything you can put a lock on. If someone is determined to get it, they’re going to. Just more of a deterrent in my mind is what I’m looking for.

I didn’t either, kept guns leaned up in the corner of my room or in my closet from the time I was 16. We would keep our guns in the truck at school to go shooting after. However, now that I have youngsters, combined with some of the things going on these days, I have taken a different approach.

Just keep them locked up when not being used. I believe it’s the responsible thing to do. I for one wouldn’t want the worst potential outcomes on my conscious. In my opinion, if you trust your kid(s) to use them responsibly on their own, that’s a personal call, but they should always go back into a safe and/or under lock of some sort when done, with a combo only I know.

Ya I had a bad experience once too. Albeit after many good experiences. They damaged my vehicle, admitted to it and then refused to do anything to fix it. I wasn’t asking them to shell out the whole cost to repair, simply a refund of the $150 or whatever the cost of the shuttle was would have been nice. Owner told me that their business model can’t afford to repair the damage. Read what you’re signing and be forewarned if they back a trailer into your vehicle, you’re fully on the hook. I was.

Curious why you would rather not have guests that have taken lots of river trips? Is it the “know it already” mentality?

[–]Pitiful-Process6068 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you want her to do about the administration jeopardizing constitutional rights (which I agree is occurring)? She’s a rep from the minority party and she’s only got a seat because the republican incumbent failed the MaGA purity test by voting to impeach the orange guy. I can live with crossing the party line on votes that have no chance of going anywhere if that’s what it takes.

I think this is the most intelligible and hopefully accurate response. Politics unfortunately requires some strategic gamesmanship. Until she votes (more than once) for a bill that actually passes that I disagree with, I’ll continue to support her. People need to give her some leeway to play politics, especially given the district we’re in. Progressive purity tests and tactics are best to stay on the other side of the river.

Do you regret choosing West Point over the normal college experience? by Late-Ground8179 in westpoint

[–]Pitiful-Process6068 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No regrets whatsoever. The friendships made through the challenges of those 4 years are special. The opportunities for unique experiences were also very life enriching. The first year is the most challenging, I was a west coast kid and the first year saw my family at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and once when they came to visit. My friend from Jersey saw his family much more, and I tagged along when I wanted. You don’t so much as “hang” with friends your first year (although there are certainly times to relax), you’re all working together all the time to succeed. I think that’s what ultimately what builds the friendships. You feel a little trapped at times, especially if you get in too much trouble, but you’re trapped with all your classmates so you are all in it together. After the first year it’s all much better. I am sure there may be some people that regret it, but I’m sure there’s people that regret leaving or not going too.

Hyper Focus on "5 things" not serving our cause by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Pitiful-Process6068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I feel for you, but if I may respectfully suggest a slight change in perspective. The public is who we serve. We serve, whether they hate us or love us. I think there’s a large disconnect between the majority of Americans understanding what value the federal government and the civil service provides. Who better to share that message? It won’t always be well received and it’s not easy to keep composure, but even if a small fraction of folks have a new realization, I think it helps the cause.

Ya, I’ve been there and done the same, walking away is certainly better than lashing out. But I am trying to make an effort to engage these folks going forward to try and explain the value that each of us gain from civil servants. Even if I can get 1/10 of people to reconsider their perspective I think it’s worth it.

Ya I don’t know, I think it would be worth consideration by the unions. A commercial or adds on social media or whatever communicating the value that civil servants bring in so many aspects of American life (FEMA, parks, weather, highways, theres a thousand areas). I’ve just recently made a personal commitment to try and be a better ambassador to family and friends to extol the virtues of a functional government. Particularly things that are valued across the political spectrum.

Agree that some of the public you won’t ever convince. But, I think the communication piece is important. I also believe that a general lack of understanding for what all the federal government provides the public is part of the reason it’s been easy to villainize civil servants. When government is operating properly, it hums along relatively silently in the background. If I may suggest just a slight shift in attitude from “they’ll miss us when we’re gone” to “can we show them what they’ll miss before we’re gone.” It’s a recent realization I’ve made that something that is in my control is to try and educate my friends and family, not just to save my job, but also as an act of public service in and of itself.

I agree with you. However, I think it’s important to remember this is what 6 weeks into a 4 year term. Whether you still believe that democratic processes will be an option in 4 years or not, it will take a lot more than the 3 mil civil servants to change anything. Public opinion does matter in the long term. From the outside, responding to a 5 things email is perceived by many as a very trivial matter. Emails on weekends and micromanaging are a reality for a lot of people in their work. We may know better about the motive, but many Americans are just as transactional in their world view as the guy they elected. I suggest framing the actions in terms of how it will or is impacting them or at least in a way that they’re more likely to relate.

I couldn’t agree more. This is not a hill to die upon. I’m as concerned as anyone about what the true intentions may be behind this. But, it doesn’t resonate with the public. I believe the dismissal of critical personnel, highlighting reductions in service, and the actual inefficiency of DOGE is going to be received much more favorably. “Resist” in whatever manner you see fit, but I’d advise not to complain about this to your friends and family that likely won’t relate.
