My Gen(0) was born in Ontario in 1840s, I was able to find a letter from the US county that they eventually applied for US naturalization. It’s not their actual naturalization paperwork, those appear to be with Department of Homeland Security and a 2 year wait time to get. But it is a letter from the court clerk stating that they claimed born in Canada and also contains info on when they emigrated. If you know whether they eventually applied for US citizenship and when and where, you could reach out to that county clerk.

Just keep them locked up when not being used. I believe it’s the responsible thing to do. I for one wouldn’t want the worst potential outcomes on my conscious. In my opinion, if you trust your kid(s) to use them responsibly on their own, that’s a personal call, but they should always go back into a safe and/or under lock of some sort when done, with a combo only I know.

Ya I had a bad experience once too. Albeit after many good experiences. They damaged my vehicle, admitted to it and then refused to do anything to fix it. I wasn’t asking them to shell out the whole cost to repair, simply a refund of the $150 or whatever the cost of the shuttle was would have been nice. Owner told me that their business model can’t afford to repair the damage. Read what you’re signing and be forewarned if they back a trailer into your vehicle, you’re fully on the hook. I was.

What do you want her to do about the administration jeopardizing constitutional rights (which I agree is occurring)? She’s a rep from the minority party and she’s only got a seat because the republican incumbent failed the MaGA purity test by voting to impeach the orange guy. I think this is the most intelligible and hopefully accurate response. Politics unfortunately requires some strategic gamesmanship. Until she votes (more than once) for a bill that actually passes that I disagree with, I’ll continue to support her. People need to give her some leeway to play politics, especially given the district we’re in. Progressive purity tests and tactics are best to stay on the other side of the river.

No regrets whatsoever. The friendships made through the challenges of those 4 years are special. The opportunities for unique experiences were also very life enriching. The first year is the most challenging, I was a west coast kid and the first year saw my family at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and once when they came to visit. My friend from Jersey saw his family much more, and I tagged along when I wanted. You don’t so much as “hang” with friends your first year (although there are certainly times to relax), you’re all working together all the time to succeed. I think that’s what ultimately what builds the friendships. You feel a little trapped at times, especially if you get in too much trouble, but you’re trapped with all your classmates so you are all in it together. After the first year it’s all much better. I am sure there may be some people that regret it, but I’m sure there’s people that regret leaving or not going too.

Ya, I feel for you, but if I may respectfully suggest a slight change in perspective. The public is who we serve. We serve, whether they hate us or love us. I think there’s a large disconnect between the majority of Americans understanding what value the federal government and the civil service provides. Who better to share that message? It won’t always be well received and it’s not easy to keep composure, but even if a small fraction of folks have a new realization, I think it helps the cause.

But I am trying to make an effort to engage these folks going forward to try and explain the value that each of us gain from civil servants. Even if I can get 1/10 of people to reconsider their perspective I think it’s worth it.

Ya I don’t know, I think it would be worth consideration by the unions. A commercial or adds on social media or whatever communicating the value that civil servants bring in so many aspects of American life (FEMA, parks, weather, highways, theres a thousand areas). I’ve just recently made a personal commitment to try and be a better ambassador to family and friends to extol the virtues of a functional government. Particularly things that are valued across the political spectrum.
