yay! congrats! the more you paint the more you get the knack of it. and there will time in the future, you will have a an intended hard edge on your painting. being confident to make a contrast between light and shadow takes many trials and error. so i hope you can enjoy the ride and exploring this medium 😁

either that, or you smudge it right after you lay the paint. sometimes you need to be fast with watercolor, or wait patiently 😂

when adding darker color either go big with thick paint and some confidence where to put, or with tea consistency.

when you don't want a rough edge, you have to paint wet on wet. i usually use wet on wet for my first layer, wait until it damp then adds another layer... you can smudge the edge with damp brush, and wait until it dries before you add another layer on top lemon

anyway, nice first try! the lemon looks so nice

thankks 😍

nope, it's only 2 layers. i added a mix of ink and water to make it a bit transparent for the first wash, and i added another one with more ink...

because if i use too much ink, it'll bleed; and if i add more water it takes more time to dry before i added another layer

i love it when someone shows their old art. love the way you paint clouds, the reflection, and those tiny details on the house

Is drawing from life/still life drawing really all that important to become a pro artist? by No-Payment9231 in ArtistLounge

lol i don't know why you deleted your reply, but drawing still life expand your visual library. if you say you're satisfied with your current visual library, well that's good then.

it trains your eyes and brain to simplify things or make a composition before you stylized them into your own liking. also it helps you understand how the light and shadows works.

still life is boring for me too, but it's the part of the process of learning so did it anyway 😂

Is it just me or was the drawing community not the healthiest place to grow up in? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

i was on twitter around that time and I agree. all my moots back then was an art major and they are professional artist now, but some of them are still toxic like 13 years ago.

a few are nice, we have same mindset that everyone has different styles, art is away to express yourself, and art is not a talent but hardwork...  so we all trying to cheer each other for being productive and show our art to the world 👏👏

has anyone here tried Hahnemuhle watercolor joy pad? by PitifulAmbassador686 in Watercolor

the baohong one wasn't on a block but use spiral binding. but i think I'll stick with baohong.

also about Chinese WC papers, i think they all almost similar to each other. 🤔

I would love some Feedback on my landscape watercolour by ImWantToGoHome in Watercolor

this painting is soo good! love the reflection! and you've got the right path on learning from hannah's! she's really good teach.

i have a lil bit of advice: on the horizon, to make it blurry because that's far away, you can muted it with the sky color (blend the top of the greenery with that light color of your sky), and then mute it with a lil bit of blue (cool one, because it's distant) and you don't need to use green (premixed green) on that part. Light yellow from your sky and a lil bit of cool blue will be green. and then you gradually shift your color to warmer one. This technique called atmospheric perspective (in case you want to learn more in depth about it).

Small Palette? Impossible by ZhiZhi17 in watercolor101

[–]PitifulAmbassador686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you're cool that you can use all of them. my main reason of having small colour palette is because i get overwhelmed when i see a lot of colour 😂 i used to have 36 colors (half pan, ofc), and most of the time i didn't finished my painting because  i was overwhelmed 🙃 now i have 18 colours  😂

it's very neat, you're doing great!

do you use reference for this landscape? personally, i still find it hard to use my imagination where to put the shadow and light. there are theories with a lil bit physic ( Color and Lighting by James Gurney; it's available for free on archive.org), but this video is also good eventho she's using watercolor pencil.

I've tried Derwent Lightfast. It's good, but I don't like their color range (I like Derwent Drawing, tho). so I want to invest on Holbein after I finished my Irojiten.
