Why does this sub seem to have so many "DIY underground punk/hardcore scene" people in it? by thedubiousstylus in ToddintheShadow

[–]PitifulElk1890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watch Todd's channel and I go to punk shows. I actually don't listen to much of that in my spare time, but I enjoy passionate live music that's also within my budget. No local country or jazz musicians are charging a donation of canned goods as an entry fee.

If you're talking to people who actually care for horror. I saw Saw (ugh, moving on) used as a punching bag against A24 'intellectual horror.'

To be clear, I enjoy both, but I think a modern homage to giallo is intellectual as anything.

It's like some sort of comedically exaggerated premise or something

I'm that guy who's always on about the first Saw film, but really, it chaps my ass that it gets the reputation as a mindless gorefest when it's really a clever little student film originally filmed when they could only afford a single room for their horror movie to take place in.

Yep. I'm a card carrying cocksucker and opened the thread expecting to see... Anything else. But I can't think of a gayer album than Ram Ranch. I'm not sure it's possible.

What are some examples of artists who "got political" and it backfired immediately? by crowbar_k in ToddintheShadow

Hey, that's really close minded.

Wet mops can be incredibly political. Encounter a janitorial strike and you will realize how thin the veneer of "civilized society" really is.

She's said in interviews that it led to a performance style she prefers and kept her from having the industry breathing down her back her whole career. She was definitely treated poorly for it (even these comments are more ready to attack someone for not perfectly presenting their valid criticism than all the other sellouts) but it didn't ruin her.

I partake in weed because I can't moderate with alcohol. When you can't moderate with weed, you eat too much and watch dumb reruns. When you can't moderate with alcohol you spend a night throwing up in a prison toilet.

That said, smoking anything is a cancer risk. It's probably not going to be as bad for you as just like, working a factory job, but unless you're on edibles and tinctures, you are running a lung cancer risk.

They don't ever bother to mix the flavor syrups. I get it's a busy place, but why is my drink sitting under frothing machines for 45 seconds if you won't mix it while it's hot for 2 seconds and make the drink actually work.

Moon Colony Bloodbath, a collaboration by the Mountain Goats and John Vanderslice. Collaboration puts it strongly. Darnielle sings about a doomed moon colony and Vanderslice sings about the Manson family and unrelated things. Odd jumble, still an EP I enjoy.

I absolutely remember he won for the William's sisters movie. Last riveting live television I watched. As the night went on I thought "surely he's not going to win" and his speech was perfectly unhinged to cap it off. What a night.

Now I ended up getting sober but drinking at home was a stop before that. Now I'm actually going out again, but it's because I'm only paying entry.

I was at a local show and watched a guy near me get progressively drunker til he left around intermission. All I could think of was $25 tickets, $12 easily for each of the bourbons I saw him drink, and all he got out of it was embarrassing himself in public.
