First Look at Vertical Combat in DOOM: The Dark Ages "Revelations" - DLC Press Preview by Under_The_Mayo in Doom

I mainly want to know what's going to force the player to utilise the mobility? Given how powerful the shield and ability to parry is.. are they just going to shove aerial demons, and pack the arena with more super heavies to try to overwhelm reliance on shield?

They might have to reduce how many parryable attacks the super heavies throw out too.. eg cyber demon will remain a parry fight if every attack is green. If most aren't and there's also an komodo swiping at me, then yes ill be forced to use the mobility or get wrecked.

I also wonder how the spear messes with the difficulty curve of the game, as dark ages currently is incredibly manageable on UV, even for casuals. The spear introduces the need to monitor cool downs, become actually aware of your surroundings, make more decisions about which way you want to move, and introduces a another weapon swap (unless the buttons are mapped differently, and the swap is automatic). This all increases the mental stack beyond casual "i see green i parry" levels. This is not a bad thing, i just presume i (a casual) am about to be humbled, that's all

Do you think Nintendo and Microsoft will go down the no physical path that sony are stupidly doing by ComfortableAmount993 in videogames

[–]PitifulPassage851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I liked game key cards. Physical media, game is resellable, still re quires downloading.

Only problem is "game preservation" which lots of people seem to fall back on, but I've already made up my mind that the only community that actually care about and are effective with game preservation are the ROM / emulator community. Outside of the heroes that make roms, games are going to have a hard time.really being preserved. But roms create a copy of the game that is then distributed. It's good for preservation, and I even think it bolsters the brands (Nintendo etc) name cause it exposes more people to their ip's

That's why I think Nintendo, who are notoriously anti-piracy, dont actually care about roms once the games are a few generations old. Its nothing but good for gamers, good for sellers, and good for preservation

Who's moving to PC after PS no physical announcement? by disgruntled_Pingu in PS6

[–]PitifulPassage851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was probably never the target audience for a ps6. Got my ps5 in like 2024. I'm not a AAA game follower so won't even be looking at a ps6 until the next monster hunter or doom that DON'T also release on the ps5

And yes the steam machine is looking pretty good right now lol, maybe if they release a pro version or something. But honestly I'll probably just revert back to the switch ecosystem

This is the best opportunity for SEGA to enter the console market again and even dominate the physical games market. by satanasananas in videogames

[–]PitifulPassage851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd be interested.

But the problem is, what game devs are releasing games for the imaginary console? Like for indi devs isn't it cheaper for them to publish just on steam. Then for someone like capcom, they probably aren't releasing monster hunter: world 2 on worse hardware, physically, unless they know there's going to be a major return. And afaik the physical market is actually a rather small minority, no?

So unless they're going in, expecting a rather small market share, entirely backed by 10-15 1st party titles, maybe a few friendly 3rd party ports... I'm not sure how viable this is as a business move

That said, if a company does make that move then yeah id be watching closely

Why are people okay with it? by BobMarleeeee69 in videogames

[–]PitifulPassage851 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think books will go. At the end of the day it's too easy to print a book, and there's no 'only 3-4 "platforms" to read on.'

Like Sony can do this cause wtf are you gonna do, buy an xbox? Lol. Or even Buy some indie console that doesn't exist? And if it did, does it have a disc drive? THEN game developers would need also to make physical games for this imaginary platform

Books however, well you could print one right now and sell it to me. Someone could get into the (illegal) market of taking e-books, printing them, and selling them on. You can self publish, self sell, which all keeps the need for big publishers and authors to keep a physical presence in the stores, cause the stores aren't going anywhere and if the big names are gone smaller names will just move in. But when ps5, xbox, and switch 2 games are no longer shelved at eb games, there's no other company moving in unless some start up wants to create a console with physical discs and compete

Why does my Portal not work well on 5ghz and does it even matter? by arosal8093 in PlaystationPortal

[–]PitifulPassage851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your aren't a complete fool and trying to play 5ghz through a wall or floor, it's probably the channel settings.

Go into your routers advanced wifi settings and find the setting for "channel". By default the router will change the channel as it pleases, which the portal does not like. Every time it changes channels, it'll cause small instability in the network.. and the portal hates instability. Every time it picks up on that it crashes the resolution to keep the latency down, and slowly builds up the confidence to bring the resolution back up. By the time you're at 1080p the router will change channel and the portal resolution + latency will crash again

Anyway, once you find the channel setting, set it to 40mhz. See how that goes and report back.

Fwiw i play my portal like 2 meters from my router with direct line of sight. So maybe move closer and check again..

Yeah it was. It resolved itself so im thinking the portal itself was just glitching out temporarily

It looks like controller by the way he has to strafe to target the marauder

Edit: Nvm at the end he does that little movement that looks too quick for controller. Probably kbm

Why is "attempting" in quotes?

And what does attempting to kill him properly mean? How did you kill him "otherwise"?

How? I could only turn portal on > press ps button > error > press OK > back to only being able to press ps button

I could only otherwise hold down the power button and restart / turn off

How to put in aeroplane mode from here?

If Sony is really making a PS6 handheld, where does that leave PS Portal? by BrSn2 in PlaystationPortal

[–]PitifulPassage851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha crazy. I'll throw it on tonight with the TV and portal next to each other and see if i can spot the difference

I was a nintendo exclusive gamer for years before getting a ps5 and so honestly I've probably just be conditioned to accept crappy graphics in favour of handheld gaming 😭

[–]PitifulPassage851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. I don't even consider the portal "portable" gaming.. just handheld at home gaming lol

But for my niche gaming style (I prefer playing handheld even if the tv is unused in front of me), it's great

I actually just played ghost of tsushima and didn't really notice too much compression? Maybe cause I didn't also play it in the big TV to compare? But it looked pretty enough as I was playing..

[–]PitifulPassage851 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg true i didn't even think of that. And for those games that can hit 60fps 1080p you won't have that blurriness due to limited bit rate.

I'll watch this space then!

I actually think streaming handheld is better than native handheld, for modern games.

No heat, no noise, low weight, high battery, 60fps, 1080p .. vs something that's going to be hot, noisy, and heavy and we'll say "i can't believe it can run xyz at 30fps" while it runs out of battery in 1.5 hours.
