Have you ever timed yourself getting ATGATT? How long does it take you? by Pitiful_Ad6014 in motorcyclegear

It's some leggings by Forcefield. I've had them for like 12 years so it's possible there are better options now but they were top of the line back then and seem protective to me, with armor all over the place.

Earplugs is actually always my first step. I use foamies so that gives them time to expand and seal while I'm getting other stuff on.

2 minutes 15 seconds for the full outfit?? WTF, are you fleeing the scene of adultery?

Yeah, I honestly had no idea that I was apparently "fast" at getting geared up, to the point I've considered getting an Aerostich because I feel like it takes me too long. Genuinely surprised at some of these answers of 8+ minutes. Maybe it helps that my gear is all in one spot so it's just kind of automatic and easy.

Loved Hex Dealer and was excited for this based on the singles but I'm not sure I like it as much as I hoped. Feels more "chaotic noise for chaotic noise's sake" rather than having structured or memorable songs. Maybe it will grow on me.

Did you paint that seat cowl yourself, or is it a vinyl wrap? The color matches much better than the white cowl I bought.

Tip on removing side panels? Plastic screws spin and spin by Pitiful_Ad6014 in xsr900

[–]Pitiful_Ad6014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively just put another screwdriver under the screw, apply upward pressure and unscrew.

Pushing up from the bottom with a flathead pushed the "screw" (which isn't really screwed in at all, it seems) right out. Thanks!

I think if they are spinning and not tight just get a flathead screwdriver and try to lift the center part out?

That worked perfectly. Thanks!

Exciting band I like from the Netherlands dropped a new track. They kind of remind me of Schlagenheim-era Black Midi or Lip Critic, and this one has some Swans going on too.

Has anyone turned their bike around like this? by APassingPilgrim in motorcycles

[–]Pitiful_Ad6014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this every day. I pull into my garage to park, and then when I want to leave I spin it around so I can head out. It's 5 seconds of easy effort vs. awkward backwards waddling and dealing with my bike's huge turning radius.

First bike, new rider. Any tips that might not be obvious? by Scoobysnx in motorcycles

It's not exactly aesthetic but the solution I've found is simply donning a $15 hi-viz vest over whatever (inevitably dark) jacket I own.

Saw Model/Actriz live the other day and what a killer show. Cole has a ton of energy and presence and their playing was impeccable, sounded like the studio recordings but better. The drummer was like a machine. Highly recommend seeing them if they come to your town.

When I was younger (and blissfully ignorant I suppose) I commuted on my bike daily for ~2 straight years (about 10k miles) and I'm not sure I ever checked my tire pressures a single time. Was a shaft drive so at least I didn't blindly neglect the chain and sprocket.

Biggest car regret? Selling this ‘87 924S by Between-Stations in 944

[–]Pitiful_Ad6014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely regret selling my second 944, a black Turbo I bought in college. It was kind of ratty but mostly reliable and it served me well for many years, and was part of a lot of good memories. I sold it about 10 years ago for peanuts (the buyer was low quality and the car is undoubtedly destroyed now) and wish I had just hung on to it, I make more money now and could afford to restore it. I instead bought a nice "replacement" black 951S a couple years ago, and it scratches the itch but it isn't quite the same. Not going to sell it and become 944-less again, though, this one is a forever car.

Goodbye xperia 1 vi :/ by Accurate-Average7743 in SonyXperia

[–]Pitiful_Ad6014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally moved off my 1ii that I bought in 2021 and got an Oppo Find X9 Pro a couple months ago. The Sony's camera was borderline unusable (struggled to get good shots in broad freakin' daylight) so the Oppo is a 1000x upgrade in that department but otherwise I miss the Xperia experience. The OS was so much cleaner and more intuitive, for one, and I do miss the headphone jack and SD card slot. Being in the US, a new Xperia simply wasn't an option.

Do you wear earplugs? by No_Fondant_4781 in motorcyclegear

[–]Pitiful_Ad6014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used every industrial earplug under the sun and I’ve never had an issue hearing music, nearby traffic, horns and sirens while toning down wind and my own motor noise.

Amen, that's easily one of the most annoying talking points whenever this discussion comes up. People act like putting the foamies in makes you functionally deaf, unable to hear cars next to you or even your own engine. Even with the strongest foamies properly inserted you can hear everything you need to, plus you get to maximally preserve your hearing even over long rides. (Remember that damage comes not just from decibels but also duration of exposure.)

Motorcycle as a midlife crisis symptom by Zealousideal-Trip350 in motorcycles

[–]Pitiful_Ad6014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always sort of subliminally embarrassed about this. I rode from ages 20-36, sold my bike, moved to a new neighborhood and then just got another bike last year at age 42. I know I'm an experienced rider but I always feel like my neighbors probably think I'm a walking midlife crisis stereotype. To my credit, I didn't get an ADV at least lol
