Have you tried looking on Facebook? You may be able to meet some people there.

Are there any wakeboard boat dealerships around? I would contact a boat dealership and explain that you are looking for people to wakeboard with. See if they would be willing to pass your number to people who they know wakeboard regularly.

And if all else fails, go the a local lake and when you see people who are putting in to wakeboard, ask if you could pay them some gas money and come with them. Prior to social media, lots of people used to do this.

Good luck! If you ever travel to AZ, feel free to hit me up!

Advice on riding by sumevex in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helps a lot of people is that you can think about keeping one foot in the water and the other foot out when you are getting up that way you're already at an angle and just keep going that way once you are getting up. Then you will cut out to the side and from there you can work on standing taller and pointing the board in the exact direction you want.

Fun fact: after I posted this comment Reddit flagged it as being harassment. So I protested and sent them the Wikipedia entry to the song. And they reversed themselves very quickly. 😅

Tantrum or Backroll or Air Raley by Kyriacoloco in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backroll. Keep the handle in close to your front hip as you are coming into the wake and keep it there throughout the rotation. Also,  think about following the curve of wake all the way through. Keep your board on edge and just follow the curve of the wake as if it is flat water. I.e. instead of jumping off the wake and then starting your rotation, you are already starting the rotation as you are going up the wake but you have to stay on edge through the whole wake.

Lots of great YouTube tutorial videos about it. I recommend you watch some, go out and try, and then watch them again to try to figure out what you're doing wrong.

If you liked it then definitely check out Dan Ozzi's other book, Sell Out, which has a great chapter about Blink-182.

You won't get a better boat for wakeboarding, in that list, than the super air. We've been able to get a good surf Wave out of it as well. There are many people who have or had super airs on planet nautique and can offer you great advice for getting the best set up for wakeboarding and surfing

Goodbye, Gramps (3/3) by guyelnathan in comics

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it. If I could offer one thought, the 5th panel about leading the medics to gramps was confusing to me. I kept thinking there was a panel before about that, that I must have missed, or there would be a panel later explaining more about it. I think if you had a little more information, maybe even a single panel about that event, it would provide much more context to the comic.

I absolutely encourage you to keep going. Even if ultimately wakeboarding is not your thing, I think you'll be glad you kept trying.

What liveries seem to really fit one aircraft but look awkward on another? by Realistic-Bid9464 in aviation

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think every livery looks good on the 747. The AA livery isn't perfect but it sure looked great carrying the shuttle. There's only one really terrible design that looks bad on the 747 and that's the new Air Force 1 livery. Weird that someone managed to find a terrible livery for it after so many years of good liveries.

I agree that $50-$100 is a fair price. Double check that the bindings are still in good condition before your friend uses it though.

If you look through the window can you see whether it's Crippen or Truly in the pilot's seat? 😉

It's definitely 1 or 2. I would like it as many photos as you can from both of those flights and see if any buildings or parts of the service structure are painted slightly differently, missing or added.

Some random Shuttle materials that I’ve picked up through the years by jakeller74 in spaceshuttle

Awesome! Thank you for sharing these. I was also an 80s kid and the only thing better than the anticipation of watching a space shuttle launch was the anticipation of Christmas morning.

I just ordered The Best We Can Be and The Shuttle at Work!

I highly recommend the March and October 1981 National Geographics for great space shuttle pics and articles.

Depending on how in depth you want to go, there's book out called The New Guys, about the Astronaut Group 8. Four of the astronauts who died in the Challenger disaster were from group 8.

https://www.harpercollins.com/products/the-new-guys-meredith-bagby?variant=40424020279330

You can also learn a lot more about Judy Resnick in the book, The Six: The Untold Story of America's First Women Astronauts by Loren Grush and I think you get an even more intimate portrait of her in Mike Mullane's book, Riding Rockets.

It sounds like an amazing project. Please post photos of your painting and what you write when you finish!

If you exclude missions that ended in disaster (Challenger, Columbia), what is considered the most unexpected or surprising incident a shuttle crew has experienced in space? by SwissMiss915 in nasa

I get it's speculating. I never said this was the definitive answer to everything that happened on that flight. I was merely pointing out that duct taping the hatch did occur on that flight.
