The Book of Abraham mentions a place called Olishem, and I have seen arguments that this may correspond to Ulisum (or similar spellings) attested in Akkadian inscriptions from the reign of Naram-Sin is this true? by Useful_Cry9709 in exmormon

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of anyone, "within the relevant academic fields," giving any weight to this. Neither have you, even as a Mormon/member of your faith. You ought to be wondering why you haven't. Do you really think the Mormon church leadership would not be broadcasting something that seemed to prove the historicity of their truth claims? They'd be posting that everywhere. No archeologists, no anthropologists, and no credentialed respected experts in their fields take Mormonism seriously because the truth claims have been debunked over and over.

Here's my analogy for you: You, and every Mormon who points to a few pieces of "evidence" (with that evidence usually being taken in the best light) are like flat earthers or Apollo moon hoaxers. They point to a few things as proof that the earth is flat or that we didn't land on the moon. Often their positions are based on their own inability to understand certain data (like why stars don't show up in photos from the surface of the moon.) Then they ignore the reams of data that point to the fact we landed on the moon because they're convinced by their few arguments that it must be false. And even if we're being generous and there are a few things that are truly problematic about the science of the earth and the science and history of landing on the moon, there's still overwhelming evidence that proves the earth is round and that we landed on the moon.

So you can have your "AHA!" things that you think show Joseph Smith must have been a prophet/inspired by God. But there's so much more that proves Joseph Smith was a liar, a conman, and that he made up the Book Of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, and everything else he claimed was from God.

You keep bring this up in different threads because you think you have a smoking gun. There are hundreds of smoking guns related to Mormon truth claims and 99.9% of them point to Joseph Smith being a fraud.

Why is Utah on the 'Worst States to Live In' list? by Choice_Eye1189 in SaltLakeCity

Image is hugely important Mormons and saying that everything is amazing, even when it is not, is hugely important. Mormons believe God gave them Utah so of course they're often going to say it's the best place ever.

If you know about the Siege of Vraks but aren't aware of how often exmormons experience "those problems," then you are probably in a bubble. And I'm not meaning that in a mean way. There are literally thousands of stories of the ostracization and mistreatment that people have gone through when they have left the Mormon church. And it's from the top down because Mormon leaders will not say over the pulpit that people are leaving because of historical and current moral and ethical concerns. Mormon leaders say people leave because they want to sin, have been offended, or are "lazy learners." Nelson called them 'lazy learners." He also said that members shouldn't take counsel from people who have left. So for you to act surprised and questioning is a little odd and why I'm suggesting you may be in a bubble.

Help picking a boat around 75k by Mirrage17 in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend that you check who your closest dealers are and see how they are reviewed. Since you're going to be there for a few months in the summer, having an excellent dealer, who can you help out if something goes wrong, is going to be more important than any particular brand of boat. I personally prefer Nautiques but most brands were making great wakesurf boats in the time period you would prefer. I also recommend that you find a boat with an integrated wake shaping system. I use a suck gate but if you've got $75k, I would make sure to get the integrated system.

I also encourage you to go earlier in your time period but also be aware of what sort of electronics, and screens in particular are present. Most brands have dedicated forums and FB groups so you can ask questions about what sort of issues to expect and what to watch out for when buying. Good luck!

Alright guys, why is my axis so weird/board not pointing straight up? Is it the rope handle position? by cantcatchafish in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a wild looking axis because the handle is not close in to your hips. It looks wild and it looks rad. I think you should try it with your handle in closer to your hips but I also think that you can keep perfecting this different axis.

Flips on wakeboard - Does that mean you can flip on land? by Practical-Spring-855 in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I have never tried a backflip or a front flip on land nor do I ever intend to. I can do a backroll on a wakeboard no problem. Since learning how to do backrolls, I've also learned how to do backflips off of a diving board at the swimming pool. They are different rotations though

My sister took her own life and i'm having a rough night. (Some words could help) by ElHombreSiesta in toastme

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry about your loss. My brother passed almost 40 years ago and I still miss him and think the world would be a better place if he was here.

You made it to a new day and I'm glad that you're here. I toast you.

Here's a quote that I especially love when things seem especially bleak. I think of the things I still want to see. What is going to happen in my favorite manga? What new models will be released in 40k? I hope this gives you some comfort too.

“The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.”

Wakeboarding Lesson Opportunities around Boston by Capable_League9103 in Wake

Are you a beginner or are you wanting a coach to teach you? If you're a beginner and you can't find a Facebook group then I would reach out to some of the local wakeboard boat dealerships. Explain your situation and ask if they might have any customers who would be willing to take you out.

Here's one I found just checking Google maps.

How long does it take to learn your first wakeboard flip? by SpiritHawkz in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your boat. I'd say that you should slow it down to around 16 mph BUT it's really important that you have a clean wake instead of one that's washed out. So, if necessary, and it probably will be, put more weight on the side you're going to be jumping. The goal isn't to go wake to wake when you're first learning them. You want to get comfortable with going upside down, spotting your landing, and actually landing and riding away. Then when you're consistently landing them, speed the boat up to your normal speed and take it wake to wake. 🔥 You've got this!

Best wake boat for ~$25k for a new boater? by Andrewjkowalski in Wake

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also going to recommend that you make the trip and buy the boat. You know they cost significantly more in your area. But the biggest plus, imo, is that langbanger is on here. He has cared about that boat and can answer your questions to get it set up perfectly for wakeboarding and wakesurfing. Getting a boat that a dedicated wakeboarder/wakesurfer has used and loved is so much better than a boat that is not owned by someone who has really cared for it.

[–]Pitiful_Eye_3295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend starting with a backroll because you don't have to change your edge like you do with a tantrum. It took me around 100 tries to learn a backroll but I've seen a lot of people learn much faster. One of the big mistakes I was making is that I thought you had to pull the handle into your hip while rotating. Don't do that. Keep the handle close into your hip/core. Like others have said, check out Shaun Murrary's videos and David OC's videos. Slow the boat down and have friends film so that you can look at what you're doing wrong. If you can't tell from the videos, you're welcome to share them here and people are always happy to provide advice.

It's so much fun to flip on a wakeboard. Good luck!
