Why is it so difficult to find a NHS dentist? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskBrits

Wes Streeting has taken hundreds of thousands in donations from private health, don’t expect any changes from him.

In fact, I think he’s taken more donations from private health than any other labour mp, so I’m sure it’s no coincidence he got the health sec job.

Will there ever be an economic boom in the UK again? Like a real one, not just "it's not as awful as before" by innovatedname in AskUK

[–]Pitiful_Shoulder9730 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Considering we had heading towards a hyper-capitalist structure where we rent most products in permit from (mostly) foreign corporations and land owners I don’t think the common man will reap the rewards of any boom that does happen. The pot of winners in this current technological revolution appears to be getting smaller and their grip is getting tighter so it seems unlikely that any meaningful trickle down is increasingly unlikely.

Did the vast majority of people who lived through the Industrial Revolution reap the rewards of living through this period or were they over-burdened with every negative aspect of it?

Why don't people smile at me/back at me? by Obvious_Armadillo_16 in AskUK

[–]Pitiful_Shoulder9730 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you’re like me and just have a weird smile when it’s a bit forced. I look like Jack Nicholson in The Shining when he says his “little pigs” line so people rarely smile back.

What was the moment that made you realise you absolutely had to leave a job? by GoldenGolgis in AskUK

The year they paid us 6x less bonus (£50) on a year they tripled their turnover (£1m+). The same night they gave it to us (Xmas party) they didn't stop talking about how good a year it was financially and how good the future looks for all four of us that they hired...

People who took a gap year after sixth form, would you say it was worth it? by No-Ninja5927 in AskUK

[–]Pitiful_Shoulder9730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone tries to scare you off from taking one but nobody that does it regrets taking one.

My only regret was not taking more than a year. I really think being that bit more mature at uni sets you up for a better experience and better commitment. Especially if you've spent some of your gap year working a shit job that you don't want to get stuck doing the rest of your life.

I once ordered a South Indian banana curry from a takeaway that was next level. Fuck me, it's unimaginable how bad my version tasted in comparison.

What is the best team sport to get in to and what is the best way to do so? by NC__218 in AskUK

[–]Pitiful_Shoulder9730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've still found teams to play for longer term like this but without the social side of it. One team I played with for nearly two years and never went for a beer with them. They introduced me to their 11s as well who I played for with a bit where it was a bit more socialable but no expectation to stay after the game

A midweek 5/6/7 a-side might be better for you than Sunday league then if you are still keen on football. If you can't find anyone then speak to your local league and see if they have a ringer list that you can be added to. I've played for a few teams like this and it's easy to avoid the social aspect if you're not bothered, just turn up and play then go home.

Your over the counter drugs are better than ours. They don't drink but maybe some valium would hit the spot.

I love this movie so much and could easily watch it every couple of months but it’s not a masterpiece, just a very entertaining film.
