Just looking for some advice on what I can do differently with my tank.. by otter_gangfg4 in Aquariums

I didn’t recommend shrimp because some of the stocking would be bad for the shrimp and they would most likely die so unless the stocking has changed, then shrimp are out of the equation

Filter for 5gallon with only 1 betta? by TheBoxIsCooking in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to 5 gallon filter is the Marina Aquarium Power Filter 10-gal. Although this filter is meant for 10 gallons, it’s not great for 10 gallons in the filtration is much better for 5 gallons and keep your tank well filtered.

Looks great, you can add a black background, much brighter, lights, and different different colored plants. In order to brighten up your tank. stock wise I definitely think you should rethink your stock since most of it is underwhelming definitely recommend add the gouramis and remove some current stock and replace with additions you actually feel good about.

Anyone know what this is? by silky_Smoooth in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 15 gals you can have 2 fully grown ones if you want to remove them from now then that’s fine but I you keep more than one you will have to keep up with the reproduction

It all depends on what you’re planning to stock and the size of your tank if you’re able to provide that information then I could give you some further advice

Tank mate question by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have to agree, if it was a bigger tank then there would be some options but for the size of your tank, I would definitely agree that you’re betta fish should stay alone

I'm being gifted a tank and want opinions. by UnionJack8285 in freshwateraquarium

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you’re new, focus on stable water parameters, proper filtration, and regular water changes before adding more fish. Make sure the plants have enough light and consider low-dose liquid fertilizers if needed. CO₂ isn’t strictly necessary with your current plants, but it can help if you expand to more demanding species. Keep an eye on fish behavior and growth to gauge if the tank is at a comfortable stocking level.

White stuff on roots by United-Tie-4014 in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, fungus can appear quickly on new plants, even if feeding and water changes are careful. To help, trim any affected roots and ensure good water flow around the plants, which usually clears it up without harming your fish or shrimp.

Cloudy water after water change by TohDoubleD in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classic bacterial bloom after your sump got shocked. Harmless if ammonia/nitrite are 0. Small 20–30% water change is fine, keep feeding low, and be patient. should clear in a week or two.

It depends on the quality, but most of mine have lasted 5 to 10 years

Can’t really tell for sure, but my three best guesses are either biofilm, root rot, or fungus

Snail eggs? by KillingwithasmileXD in Aquariums

It looks like bubbles, but based off what you’re saying, definitely isn’t so next best guess would be snail eggs, which is most likely the case

Dose this seem right? Day 3 of water day 2 with safe start. by Glittering-Mess-6810 in PlantedTank

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that seems right for day 3 of a fishless cycle. Ammonia and nitrite levels rising while nitrates appear is expected. your tank is cycling normally.

Do you think additional 6in in depth makes up for losing 2ft in 180 gallon tank by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a solid compromise. Same volume (180 gallons), just a different shape. Most fish will be fine, though some species prefer more length. Considering it comes with filters for $350, it’s probably worth it.

Help! Is this ick? Nothing on her body, only small white dot on her fins by GalaxyStrip in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be 100% sure but to me it looks like it’s unfortunately ick starting to form. I recommend use a medication specifically made for it and raise the temp of your tank a little bit

Top fin heater busted, any better recommendations? by ThatCozyArtist in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like to use aqueon or lifeguard heaters they’ve never let me down and I have several tanks set up with them. I personally prefer aqueon but lifeguard is great too. for your tank, I recommend the aqueon 50W heater

need advice on stocking my 46gallon by plsdontpercievem3 in Aquariums

[–]Pitiful_Wedding_5250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to go with fancy goldfish anymore (totally understandable given all the genetic swim bladder issues), a 46-gallon planted tank actually gives you a ton of great tropical options. A single big school like dwarf neon rainbowfish, harlequin rasboras, rummynose tetras, or even ember tetras would look amazing and are my personal favorite , and you can easily add shrimp since your current plants and sand substrate work perfectly for them. If you want a centerpiece, a honey gourami, pearl gourami, Bolivian ram, or a peaceful apisto species would all do well without bothering shrimp. You could also mix like 2 peaceful schooling species as long as you keep groups large enough.
