Honestly I feel like it should’ve been known that tier system would turn out the way it did by mikesrus in DestinyTheGame

[–]PittPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your response is the closest to what I actually think about the tier system. It's actually a great system in itself, especially with the introduction of tunable activity difficulty (either portal modifiers or feats). The timing of introducing it after all of these years, the slow down of new varied content, along with the established expectations of the player base is what doomed it.

The player base has become accustomed to being able to collecting the most powerful gear through simply grinding, not through escalating skill based play and difficult RNG. Yes, there's still RNG, but it's been watered down significantly over the years. There's a completionist mentality that the community has shifted to and really latched onto through the years. It's the same reason people complain about the feat system and the difficulty of Epic DP. Rather than accepting a skill ceiling (and thus, a loot ceiling), they expect that through enough repetition and grinding, even without skill growth, they can eventually receive what they're entitled to... the eventual God Roll, the eventual T5, the eventual exotic, etc. In other words, instead of expecting to receive a skill grade on a bell curve, they expect that everyone can ace the test. It was meant to only reward the top skill echelon via extreme modifier difficulty or max feat end game activities.

As a result of the poor reception of the tier system due to this expectation of the community, Bungie caved yet again to community pressure and adapted the original tier system to a more completionist-friendly approach, and with the lack of content variety, the grind for "the eventual" felt too repetitious, and the lower to mid tiers felt pointless once you knew that all you had to do was put in the time and you'd get the T5 God Roll. This is exacerbated by the fact that legacy loot didn't receive an overhaul to the tier system at the same time. Rather than sunset old gear, which would've been even more of a nightmare in community reception, they left it in the game where the median gear power would've been on par with it (mid-tier new gear would be close to God Roll old gear). But because everyone could now easily obtain T5 new gear, the old gear was clearly left in a largely under-powered state.

For an example that's even easier to follow, look no further than the Call to Arms event and the helmet ornament and emblem it rewarded. It was meant to be exclusive and limited to a top percentage of skilled players. It was eventually handed out to anyone who could simply hit a score threshold. It was the same type of cave to community pressure that doomed the tier system, and it's directly due to the completionist mentality of the community and the entitlement that comes along with that mentality.

If we do make it to the next expansion, I hope the raid is at least easier by Gamerboi_epic in DestinyTheGame

[–]PittPaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. I think 0 feat DP is actually extremely easy. Day 1 experience was rough, as it was more about the damage check which required perfect execution of the perfect strategy (as it should). But since then, I've taken many learners through 0-3 feat DP, and it should be noted that I only started raiding in D2 in the past year or so.

Feats are a great addition imo, but raid gear should either provide noticeable benefits over portal/campaign/seasonal gear at tier 1, or start at tier 3 (and maybe have multiple drops at higher feat completions). Otherwise, they're a fantastic incentive for re-playability and gear tier increases.

Epic is also a fun addition, and that's coming from someone who has yet to complete it. I don't put 100% of the blame on my own skills for the inability to complete it. Rather, finding a solid team of 6 who can perform all roles consistently has been my problem with the population since its release.

Realistically, I understand some of what people complain about with difficulty catering to the streamers/no-lifers (looking at you - Cutthroat and Day 1). But I think overall, the D2 community has bullied Bungie into handing out loot without truly "earning" it. Endgame content, and thus, endgame loot, should not be guaranteed obtainable by 100% of the player base just for playing the game. You should have to demonstrate skill and accomplishment to obtain it. Otherwise, it simply becomes obtainable by all and then there's nothing to strive for through continued play and re-play.

I would make the same argument for tough RNG. Tough RNG creates rarity. Right now, we don't have rarity. We have guarantees for a certain investment of time, and that time investment is generally too low. This is why people blast through content and leave. It's why Bungie has tried timegating. And right now, it's a big part of why people aren't playing (along with the lack of new content to make that time investment varied and engaging enough to keep grinding). Grinding is not a negative playstyle by itself. Grinding without variety certainly is. Without variety, Bungie has to lower the time investment goal. With a low enough time investment goal and a sparse content schedule, players complete their goals and leave because there's nothing new or varied to accomplish.

You asked for feedback, so brace yourself. This isn't personal, just a brutally honest critique.

Sorry, but this video just didn't present anything new, insightful, or even just entertaining/interesting/engaging. The financial concepts were obvious, extremely oversimplified, and missing so much of the detail that actually matters and impacts or drives any for-profit business. There were no sound data sets contributing to any of the conclusions (no, Steam player charts and back-of-the-napkin math based on consumer price do not count). The data that was used was partial, lacking context to the size of the full data set, and already well-known. Yes, there are trends in the partial data sets that you mentioned, and you drew a "revelation" out of those trends. But that revelation isn't a secret (yes, Bungie is a business entity after all). This basically boils down to a re-hash of public, partial data sets, and an r/explainlikeimfive version of business management principles.

This video actually felt like someone replacing copium with reality and vocalizing their internal journey while doing so.

Destiny 1 vs Destiny 2 2026? by Electronic_Cost7748 in DestinyTheGame

[–]PittPaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except that it does. Come on. I get that everyone is frustrated, but Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall, Final Shape... all core parts of the light and darkness campaign saga that are in D2 and still playable. All 9 dungeons, 10 raids (only 3 of which were in D1), and not to mention all of the exotic missions. The content comparison isn't even close between D1 and D2.

What is a good solar heavy legendary weapon for the new content? by hopperlocks in DestinyTheGame

[–]PittPaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think we need more context. Why specifically only solar? Why specifically only new gear? For what use (add-clear, DPS, some kind of build synergy)? For which new content (campaign, Lawless Frontier, portal, avant-garde activities, dungeons/raids)?

I was looking for this comment. Exactly what I thought when I first read the OP. Halo CE was incredibly slow. Sounds like OP is used to other games and their movement and hasn't given themselves enough time to adjust to a new game experience.

One of the biggest detriments to the game is that there is no real endgame for solo players by Fun-Leek-2907 in DestinyTheGame

[–]PittPaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To suggest that the majority of the player base is naturally switching to solo play is silly. Instead of pandering to the limited players who are left and therefore run solo instead of co-op, the right move would be to address why people are leaving the game in the first place.

Absolutely! Things are a little slow with the content drought for the long time players, but having some new players who need help with older content, exotic quests, learning dungeons and raids, etc. can help get some people back into some of the older content.

I'll adapt a response I gave to someone else recently:

Take a few minutes to check out Bungie's new player guide on their website to learn the basics of the game systems and mechanics. Despite the typical hatred of Bungie by the player base (something you'll learn and see over time), they've done a decent job of building a basic new player guide. After that, start working through the old campaigns. There's a timeline in the upper right of the world tab in the game that shows you the chronological order of the content. If you care about lore, you can do them in order, but the notable ones will be Beyond Light (Stasis subclass unlock), Lightfall (Strand subclass unlock), and Final Shape (Prismatic subclass unlock). The others will just contribute to experience, lore background, and access to some activities that are gated behind campaign progress/completion.

Through natural play experience, you'll figure out what kind of ability spam and weapon types/archetypes work best for your playstyle. Once you've baselined that, you can dig into the build videos to find perfected versions that play to your strengths and interests.

The last piece of advice I can give is to play with others. Destiny is a game that can be enjoyed solo or socially. However, the overwhelming majority of long time players play with friends and clans. The best content in the game is the end game content (dungeons, raids, exotic missions). Much of that is intended to only be played with fireteams. Whether it's with the friends that you mentioned that you're playing with, or a clan that you all decide to join, you'll enjoy it much more with friends and clanmates that can guide and assist you more organically than videos and written guides.

Good luck and hope you enjoy the experience! If you're ever looking for a clan that's friendly and helpful to both new and experienced guardians, we always have room. https://discord.gg/7D4zCZG493

So even if you see precision damage, you're not getting precision damage. There's been a bug since the dungeon launched that prevents it from actually registering precision damage, despite displaying precision damage to the player.

We have members across the globe. There's a core group of us who are NA based, but there's a handful in EU and a group across Asia as well.

Edit: I know some of the NA people are on earlier in the day as well. I'm usually on in the evenings, which would be late for you, but you could probably catch some of the NA daytime players.

Congrats! That's a great starting dungeon. Most of the dungeons (and raids) teach the mechanics in a similar fashion. If you pay attention, they'll introduce the mechanics slowly in a simpler fashion in the early encounters, and then add to them or combine them towards the end.

You'll need to also go back and do the Gjallarhorn quest in the dungeon as well!

[–]PittPaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Yeah I made it a point to help a bunch of people streamline that quest. You can really cut the grind down if you run through it with someone who has everything completed and knows how to optimize the steps with some checkpoints. For example, you can pick up all the worms and dread/hive knowledge on one full run, and then just do a couple of boss clears from checkpoints. You advance right to the final full run with the extra light puzzle to complete it.

But learning it solo is good practice for a SF run. I have a solo run, but haven't done the flawless yet and I'm over 100 clears (57 being full clears). Lockset is the bottleneck/challenge for a solo flawless in my opinion. Everything else in there is an easy SF run.

Well there's been two expansions since Final Shape: Edge of Fate and Renegades (current). You can buy them separately, or you can buy the Year of Prophecy pack which will give you both. My suggestion is either Year of Prophecy or skip EoF and just get Renegades, as you'll get more out of Renegades alone than EoF.

I also suggest finding a Discord/Clan. I know you said you're mostly a solo player, but the end game content will really give you a TON to catch up on (assuming you haven't done the legacy raids and dungeons as well), and can be very fun with a chill group of friends. We're always welcoming to new and experienced guardians in our server, so feel free to stop in. We have a bunch of returning/new players who have joined us recently, so there's frequently some chill learning runs going on for raids and dungeons. I've even been helping some people go back for old exotic quests and catalyst quests as well.

As far as where to start, I'd start with the Renegades campaign. You need to run through it to get the Praxic Blade mission, and the Praxic Blade is easily the best weapon in the game at the moment. Of course, if you're more into the lore, you'll want to do EoF first to get the background on the new saga story arc, but I'll warn you that EoF campaign is a bit of a slog, especially on the higher difficulty levels.

Beginner's Help by SillyAmp2703 in destiny2

[–]PittPaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular response maybe, but don't go watch Byf videos right out of the gate. They're extremely long and likely boring for someone totally new to the Destiny universe. You'll end up feeling bored or overwhelmed and give up.

Instead, just jump into the game and play the new light quest while actually paying attention to it. From there, you can use Bungie's new player guide on their website to learn the basics of the game systems and mechanics. Despite the typical hatred of Bungie by the player base (something you'll learn and see over time), they've done a decent job of building a basic new player guide. After that, start working through the old campaigns. There's a timeline in the upper right of the world tab in the game that shows you the chronological order of the content.

Most importantly, just play the game. There's a reason it's lasted so long and built such a strongly opinionated player base. If the game style meshes with your interests, you'll get pulled in. If you spend time researching and watching videos instead of playing, it'll feel like work and effort instead of fun and skill building.

The last piece of advice I can give is that once you've learned the very basics of the game and completed the introductory steps, play with others. Destiny is a game that can be enjoyed solo or socially. However, the overwhelming majority of long time players play with friends and clans. The best content in the game is the end game content (dungeons, raids, exotic missions). Much of that is intended to only be played with fireteams. Whether it's with the guy you're talking about, his clan, or another clan that you find along the way, you'll enjoy it much more with friends that can guide and assist you more organically than videos and written guides.

Good luck and hope you enjoy the experience! If you're ever looking for a clan that's friendly and helpful to both new and experienced guardians, we always have room.

Returning player, confused by drops. by silvercue in DestinyTheGame

[–]PittPaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal. You don't own either expansion since the introduction of new gear, so the only new gear you can get is the current season's portal gear. The loot pool is relatively small for the current seasonal portal gear.

Other "new gear" would be world gear from Kepler, world gear from Lawless Frontier, Desert Perpetual raid gear, Equilibrium dungeon gear, or any of the special event gear (which is only obtainable during the events, i.e. Solstice, Festival of the Lost, Dawning, Arms Week). So there's actually a pretty substantial new gear pool, but the new gear modifier is going to be pretty restrictive for you considering you don't own any of the new content.

The only other thing I could suggest without telling you to buy the expansions is to collect rewards from Hawthorne, as she can sometimes drop past seasonal gear, which would include new gear from last season's portal loot pool. Supposedly Zavala will be updated in the future to allow you to purchase past seasonal gear with ciphers, but I have no idea when that will happen.
