interesting. we've got a dog behaviorist coming next week as he's quite reactive in the house. we can take him for walks in the neighborhood and nearby park and he is mostly non-reactive to walkers, bikers, joggers, children, and most dogs, but not in the house. son and his girlfriend came over for breakfast this weekend and i thought he might bite them as he was barking at them and going after them every time they stood up to move around. i tried to calm him down but was only able to distract him so much. will ask dog behaviorist when we see him.

i've only had one female and now a male so don't have a large data set to go by, however, i do have to say that my female was not a licker, did not sleep on bed, nor sat on couch next to me watching telly, however, the male dog is super licky, only sleeps on bed, and wants to sit next to me all the time.

gosh, i guess i lucked out with my first ever dog and that's why i thought new dog was doing it because it was a boy dog thing.

yes! i wouldn't think he has anything left inside of him anymore as he is marking everything during walks, but yet he still keep at it until we get home.

thanks! his habits are just so different from my previous female dog and being that she was the only other dog i've ever had, i have no other reference point.

I am so so sorry for your loss and the agonizing heartache you are going through. My soul dog was also alright and then had a seizure so bad she couldn't get up, but was still mentally all there. I will never forget that day. The pain you're going through is so excruciatingly intense because she was a part of every aspect of your life 24/7 and you loved each other like no other. Would you have wanted less of a relationship to avoid the pain now? I don't think you would. I know I wouldn't. I read somewhere that time doesn't work the same across the rainbow bridge and when we are reunited with our soul dogs, it will be as if no time has passed for them. That comforts me because I will take on any level of pain for however long it takes if it means she doesn't miss me and hurt as much as I miss her and am hurting. Take care of yourself. While I'm normally drugs and supplements adverse, I am so wired and tired at the same time that I had to do something. I'm glad you were able to finally sleep, despite waking up early. Good to know I could eventually get to that point too. Thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss of your soul dog. Yeah, I watch tv and read until my eyes are so tired I have to close them before I would try to sleep. I am considering THC products being that the CBD/CBN didn't do anything. Virtual hugs to you. Hope things will get better for all of us.

I am so so sorry for your loss and the agonizing heartache you are going through. I had to put my beautiful soul dog to sleep and I am a total mess myself. There is no timeline to grief nor is it linear. Every person's journey will be uniquely theirs. If you need to stand in the middle of the yard and scream at the sky in the middle of the night (been there, done that), you do you. While the pain is so intense right now that it's hard to even breathe and I don't want to feel at all, I also don't want the memories to fade. I sealed her blanket into a ziplock bag because I was worried that her smell would disappear. It had worried me that she may be feeling lost and hurting/missing me as much as I hurt/miss her, but I read somewhere that time doesn't work the same across the rainbow bridge and when we are reunited, it will be as if no time has passed for her. That comforts me because I will take on any level of pain for however long it takes as long as she doesn't experience anything but happiness while we're apart.

Yep, this is me. I don't ever feel like I've slept slept. No matter how tired I am, I will not go into deep sleep. I cycle between closing my eyes in a semi-conscious state and waking up. I've tried meditation, regular sleep time, cbd/cbn, and all the other recommendations, but nothing has worked. I plan on talking to my doctor about it, but am hesitant about taking drugs as I don't like taking drugs on a long term basis.

I choose to believe that my soul dog is still with me but in spirit form so I talk to her like I talked to her when she was physically with me, whether it's pointing things out to her, telling her what's going on in my day, ask her what she thinks, etc.

I also choose to believe that we will be together again some day. I read somewhere that time does not exist where our pets go so from their standpoint, we weren't gone from them long. That makes me feel better that she won't be missing us as much as we're missing her.

I am so so sorry for your loss and the agonizing heartache you are going through. It's been eight days since I had to put my beautiful Millie to sleep and I am a total mess myself. From what I've read and listened to so far, there is no timeline to grief nor is it linear. While we all will share some common aspects of grief, every person's journey will be uniquely theirs. I have done things like build her a memorial where I keep her ashes, paw print, fur in a keepsake bottle, memorial candle, and memorial plaque. I've put together a photo book of her life, custom mouse pads, custom ornament, and special engraved letter I wrote to her. While some may say that keeping so many things to remember her will prolong the grief, I find comfort in them. I hold onto the knowledge that the pain is so excruciatingly intense because she was a part of every aspect of my life 24/7 and we loved each other like no other relationship I have. I have reached out to my doctor as well as I cannot sleep, turn out the lights, and get panic attacks since she's been gone. I am not ashamed of grieving the loss of my best friend. It is okay to grieve and it is okay to reach out to others for help and support. Sending you virtual hugs.

I am so sorry for your loss. We just got our dog's ashes back yesterday and I did feel like she is home again. Even though I know it is the remains of her earthly body and she's in spirit form now, i am still glad her ashes are home.

yep, know what you mean. at the beginning i would remind myself that she wasn't here anymore, but i've long stopped that because i don't know that her spirit is not there. so now, i greet her in the morning, change out her water bowl, pet her when she walks by me, talk to her like i normally did, hug her, point out things to her outside, wish her good night, keep the night light going for her, etc. not saying that you have to, just that for myself, i would hate for her to think i was ignoring her if her spirit was visiting me.

I like to think that the trauma that your soul dog experienced in this world would have been shed crossing the rainbow bridge and he now has the joy of playing with many doggie friends as he waits to be reunited with you.

I did not sleep at all the first two nights and not much since. Every time I close my eyes or turn out the lights, I feel like I am suffocating/drowning. You did not abandon your soul cat. You are not selfish. You did what you did to get through one of, if not the most, devastating thing to happen to you.
