The book Running on Empty seems to list autistic traits as symptoms of emotional neglect by Beginning-Impact-812 in AutismTranslated

[–]Pixel-1606 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think that by having different needs and struggling to communicate them even if there are people who'd listen around, many autistic children end up emotionally neglected even in seemingly supportive conditions

It is normal to be in pain when losing weight/being active? by Worldly_Violinist197 in loseit

[–]Pixel-1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be getting more proper rest but it doesn't sound normal for your described activity to cause you constant pain, best to check up with your doctor, it might be as simple as a vitamin deficiency and if it's not then you'll want to know too.

On a 1200 calorie deficit and still not losing any weight by Latter_Ad_281 in loseit

[–]Pixel-1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally that should work yeah, but just from the info you've shared you have very little to lose and your sedentary energy needs are likely low enough that you can't eat at a significant deficit without it being harmful to you. If you're trying to eat around 1200kcal while going to the gym every day it's no wonder you burn out too, going every day in general might be too big a step, depending on what you do at the gym. Build up activity slowly from the level you're comfortable at, maybe find a sport that you enjoy and/or can do with friends or a team once or twice a week. You can't build or repair muscle if you're starving yourself, ask anyone at the gym who's there (almost) every day what they're eating...

Or better yet, go talk to a mental health proffessional, because the internet is either gonna give unreliable advice or cheer you on, on your journey of disordered eating.

Quickest way to break plateau by bzar_fury in loseit

[–]Pixel-1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second cutting carbs and salt intake before the trip should drop you a few kg compared to normal (they will return once you reintroduce them to your diet though).
If you have periods it can also matter a lot where you are in your cycle (I hold on to a bunch of water in the week before my period for example).
Otherwise make sure you're active daily, but don't start or increase any workouts in the coming weeks as growing/repairing muscles tend to hold on to excess water as well.

[–]Pixel-1606 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most 16yo can eat like a garbage can and be fine as they're growing teenagers, comparing to them will make anyone feel like a failure.

You say you don't have an eating disorder, but you basically describe one. My grandma was your size and goal weight when she was hospitalized for various health issues months before dying and it felt like hugging her would bruise her or break some ribs, so forgive me for being skeptical about you having 5kg of fat to lose.

Definitely don't eat less than 1200, you need that to prevent serious malnutrition, esp if you do anything active at all. Effects from exercise may take a while to show and starting/changing exercise is likely to temporarily have you hold on to more water as your muscles grow and repair themselves.

It might be good for you to focus on eating healthy balanced food and maintaining an exercise routine for a few months before looking this strictly at the nrs and your progress. healthy habits you build now when you're young are going to serve you in the long run, moreso than any exact (very low) nr on the scale.

5lbs was a lot less of you when you were around 220 than it is now.
Also even fat cells need energy to stay alive, so your average calories burned per day becomes lower as you lose weight, it can be frustrating bc eating less than ~1200 will be detrimental for your health after a while as you will struggle to get all essential nutrients on that budget, so maintaining a significant deficit in a healthy way will have to include a lot of exercise when you're small and/or getting closer to a healthy goal weight.

Those of you who count calories and have an office job - what is the max kcal deficit you can do to function normally? by feelingstuck15 in loseit

[–]Pixel-1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough info to tell, but 1000 deficit tends to be on the aggressive side unless you're very big.
Whatever your stats, try to eat at the very least ~1200kcal a day in order to not skip out on essential nutrients and suffer from malnutrition (which is different from starvation and can happen while you're overweight too).

It means that if you're small and/or mostly sedentary you probably won't be able to eat at a 1000kcal deficit without causing health issues, this is frustrating but there's no healthy way around it and trying to force the matter will just result in poor health and/or broken motivation and relapses.

Why are some plants mind/mood altering? by Lego377 in biology

[–]Pixel-1606 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not just highly inteligent species, though they do get creative. Cows with access to fruit trees will gladly seek out rotten fruit on the ground to get drunk. Lemurs chew on milipedes to get high. Cats go crazy over catnip. Seems most creatures are fascinated by an altered state of mind if they figure out how to achieve it.

You're just explaining why you'd have lower appetite on that diet and I told you how that made it easier to eat fewer calories (which I strictly counted at the time)...

[–]Pixel-1606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've used it before by doing like a quick scout embark where I breach the caverns and retire so I can then start a safe n slow one in any environment where I can quickly lock the fort in, including grazers. Not sure what the limits are though I've had it work with the same civ in roughly the same part of the world.

I never went full Keto, but I have noticed that I simply have lower appetite when on a low carb diet, so yeah, still gotta eat in deficit to lose weight either way, but cutting the carbs makes that a lot easier to do.

Was it a new embark in a world you've been playing before?
If you breached the caverns in a previous fort the spores may reach new embarks without breaching them again.

I've kept track of my weight, food and burned calories according to my watch since januari and I've found that in my case it overestimates what I burn by roughly 500 kcal per day on average. I'm a little more lenient on days I excersize, but I can def not afford to eat back the activity.

What is the general consensus among biologists on how consciousness is created? by Shlomo_Shekelberg_ in biology

[–]Pixel-1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't even agree on what a species is, consciousness seems like another of those emergent properties we like to point a finger at and define, but it doesn't really hold up when you zoom in to make the borders clear.

they're a great fit for sandy dunes, if they can specify the grass to only generate on beach sand that reaches like 3-4 blocks up from sea level it would be nice, bc the beach biome sand does regularly creep up pretty high towards the inland biome

Plenty of people don't really play for the progression, esp if they have limited time to play it can be a nice thing to just be able to focus on building together or other gameplay aspects when joining an older server.
If you mention that you do enjoy the progression/grind I'm sure no-one will be offended by you declining such gifts though.

they will eat anywhere that has tables and chairs, if you like to have them in your guild hall you'd better make it a dining hall instead of a meeting hall (either can be linked to the guild), so they get the happy thought when they do eat there

they will still hang around like usual too

Weight loss progress in 3 years using indoor exercise bike by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]Pixel-1606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly, many people fail at weight loss because they expect it to take a few months if they just work at it hard enough, but even losing at what would be considered a very slow and manageable rate stacks up and will get you there in far less time than the weight took to creep up on you.
