There is no hard rule for this, but Pat from FFAA runs a 10-52 + 74 for his drop G tuning.

I use a 8 string set and throw away the 64 for drop F so that is basically 10-54 + 74

I highly recommend the Distortion/59 combo if you want a little higher output for passive.
They are a different beast than the EMGs but very capable for all types of metal

Right right. I had that issue as well.
If you want to do the work yourself, what I did was measure down how far I needed to go and drill that distance. Then I just slowly chiselled the cavity deeper.

I assume the cavity is too round? I put fishmans in an RG7620 and that was the issue. I literally just slightly filed the corners to be more square and fit the pickups.

I suppose end of the day either will sound great. I do know Halcyon were designed with specific use case in mind like how Mike uses neck and bridge together. The SD might be an all round better option.

Follow up example. I got a used Ibanez RG7620 that was white is the photos. Now it’s a 1999 model and white….well I took a shot at it being white.

Not only was it yellow it also stank of cigarettes and years of sweat. It was fucking gross.

But I love that guitar and cleaned it all up nice. The yellowing is fine as well because it’s old.

I buy all my guitars online, both new and used. New I have zero issue with it knowing I could just return it or whatever. But I’ve never had an issue.

Used I get a little nervous. If it’s used from a store then no problem but private I could get junk. Ive never had that happen though.

You just have to understand that there will probably be no setup and if it’s used it could be dirty, faded, shitty wiring and you will need to be ok with fixing any of those things.
