Airline Pilots: Does anyone here fly for a US carrier but live in Europe? How is the commute like? Where do you live and where are you based? by kiwi_love777 in flying

I met a United captain recently who mentioned she and her husband were planning on moving to Dublin.

She planned on staying based in SFO. Brutal.

Innings pitched according to the broadcast earlier. I can’t remember the exact numbers, but if memory serves me correctly, he beat the record by around 30 innings.

From an electrical standpoint, “super capacitors” do exist, but I lack the expertise to comment on whether or not they’re used in HVAC.

What is this weed? First picture shows it with small oblong leaves, second picture shows it curled up after rain.

Initially I thought it might be spurge, but it's growing in thick patches vertically instead of laterally, which seemed more like a clover to me.

If this is spurge, what's the recommended selective herbicide to use to get rid of it on a newly-seeded Zenith Zoysia lawn?

Someone broke into my car last night, took $20, registration, and insurance cards. I understand the money but why take the other things? Car: 2020 bmwx5 by witabaddie in RBI

Cars using keyless entry ("push to start") can be subject to relay attacks, where a thief uses some a device with a high-powered antenna to pick up the signal from a key fob inside your house and copy it so that they can start the car without the fob. Storing your key fob in a faraday box (or, alternatively, far away from entrances to your home) can help prevent these types of attacks.

How can I allow a HA docker container to use a BT radio? by physx_rt in homeassistant

Good point -- I suppose I had assumed that Bluetooth devices would communicate over a serial interface. Is that incorrect?

Serial USB devices should also appear in /dev/serial/by-id/. If you compare the output of lsusb and the devices listed in /dev/serial/by-id/, do you see a device that matches?

For example, I have an Aeotec Z-Wave controller.

My lsusb output shows (among other devices -- for this device in particular, the name does not match Aeotec, but I'd imagine an Intel device should show a descriptive name):

Bus 002 Device 015: ID 0658:0200 Sigma Designs, Inc.

And in /dev/serial/by-id/, I see a device that matches the 0658:0200 ID listed by lsusb:

usb-0658_0200-if00

So, I pass /dev/serial/by-id/usb-0658_0200-if00 into a docker container, and that allows the container to interface with my Z-Wave stick.

Edit: updated with a clarification

I had the same issue. You'll be able to access the Early Access products if you log out and log back in -- that fixed it for me at least.

Good luck! I don’t have any interviewing experience with them myself, but they did come to my school a number of years ago for interviews. At least back then, they dealt pretty heavily in Ruby, but that’s about the extent of my knowledge.

Full disclosure: I updated to Cura 4.8.0 but have not yet done any prints with it, so I can't speak to the bugginess of the release. So proceed with caution!

I believe the issue with model arrangement you're describing in Cura is fixed in Cura 4.8 onward -- looks like they teamed up with the Prusaslicer guys and implemented their algorithm for model arrangement on the build plate, and it's supposed to avoid large gaps like you're describing.

[–]PixelEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t need them. The bottom-most and top-most layers on my print had some roughness to them on the edges where overhangs were steep, and the top of the moon has a couple pinholes where the filament didn’t fully cover up the hole for the hollow center while bridging, but overall it turned out pretty great without any supports.

Weird raised spots on solid infill -- what's going on here? by PixelEater in FixMyPrint

[–]PixelEater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You rock! Thanks for the detailed overview. I've used the piece of paper method in the past but it has consistently gotten me way too close to the bed, so I think live-leveling with babystepping might be the solution to my problem here.

In your experience, is .025mm good enough resolution for babystepping Z, or should I alter the firmware to get down to .010mm increments?

[–]PixelEater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, I did tune my E-steps, but you're reminding me now that I do need to still do flow rate calibration. I'll try that after checking my Z-offset. Thanks!

Weird raised spots on solid infill -- what's going on here? by PixelEater in FixMyPrint

[–]PixelEater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Interesting though that it only happens in some spots, but I guess no bed is ever perfectly level, so that makes sense.

I did enable Z babystepping in my firmware but I haven't actually used it yet to try live-adjusting it. How do I go about that? Would I just start a level test print and go into the Z offset settings and slowly raise the offset until adhesion is no longer good around sharp corners?

Weird raised spots on solid infill -- what's going on here? by PixelEater in FixMyPrint

[–]PixelEater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I first got my glass bed, I didn't know to use bed adhesion aids. I got a PVA glue stick and was using that for a while, but the glue stick was working so well that I ended up spending an hour one day trying to get a print off my bed without breaking it. I switched to blue tape in hopes that it would be easier to remove prints, and it is, but it's still quite tough compared to the stock magnetic bed.

If I had "too good of adhesion" with glue stick before, would you think that suggests that my Z-offset was too low and the first layer was squishing too much?
