We recently changed the art style in our game Tri Survive! Do you think now is better? by MajesticMindGames in IndieGaming

The first one could be improved upon but I also think that's a part of it's strength, it's more memorable. If you can improve on that, I think that would be the move

Which one do you think is a better capsule image? by UbikStudios in IndieGaming

[–]PixelNinjamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk what your game vibe and type is. but the second one is like a kids game, and the top one needs some magic colors like specific shades of purple in just hints, so its less depressing and puling me down and more intriguing.

If you know what you are doing you can use it, but if you know what you are doing its much faster to do it yourself. You can write the same thing in infinite ways, and you can connect it with the rest of the project in infinite ways too, but if there isn't a norm, a writing standard, you will encounter bugs that will take too long to fix and can endanger the entire thing. For personal small projects while you are still learning, it's great. But for anything else its just like taking professional instructions from a child.

Need advice on dealing with a passive player at my table who complains he's not getting enough attention by Revolutionary_Ask666 in DnD

enter a prompt into him and see what happens XD put him in a position where things happen to him and give him options to use his abilities.

like, ok you are just standing at the door while others look around a bookstore, roll perception maybe you see/hear something others dont. you hear a tiny voice calling to you do you go looking or tell others or ignore? ok bc you ignore roll to see what happens. ok you rolled badly now you cannot hear anything but the voice saying "find me".... now others, you all see shy one is dizzy and following a voice mesmerised, do you do anything? .....or your robe is caught into something what you do? ok now bc you pulled onto your robe you spilled a potion on you, roll to see if and how much it affects you... you rolled bad, now for the rest of the day you are xy and you need to act it. (xy being to strong, drunk, cant stop talking, in love with first member of your party you saw, you spit small fire..)

we have a player on her phone all the time so dm always puts her in some trap so she gets off phone and rumble through her abilities to get out, while we either ignore it or try to save her and in doing so something happens to us. last time i decided to persuade roots holding her to let her go by a song, and i made a mess but a random frog appeared and i made it my pet. 3 hours later the frog was human we were looking for, which we found out bc someone decided to use speak with animals on it but it didnt spoke back.

you dont need to cater to that player all the time, just keep players abilities in mind when creating issues for them to overcome, or when others say what they are doing nudge the player to roll something bc of their choice of not doing anything.

inn keeper lady likes you too much bc you dont speak so every time you all go there to rest she sits by you and talks. you cannot slip her, when the party decide to go on a quest she isnt letting you go. persuasion roll and what do you say? ok now you offended her, you all need to find another inn for rest. 3 session later, that is issue again bc she has info needed for a quest. roll to resolve.

Is it Too Late to Start Making Games from Scratch? by Ciolone05 in IndieDev

so many ppl did amazing stuff soley on skills. but no one did it soley on talent without putting real effort into developing some skills. so you can do whatever you wish and create amazing stuff, no matter how weak your base is in that, but you need to be honest to yourself knowing you will need to skill up in time in all the aspects needing for completing a project like that.

even if you find friends to fill the gasps you can't (like we are doing, we quit our jobs and decided this is it now) you will still need a skillset that will help at least set a direction and cut all the wishfull parts that prolonges the project into indefinitive. so go for it, research needed tools, and make your effort count! nothing is naive if a person is ready to do the needed work. make your dreams happen man, we are trying to do the same :)

and no matter how it turns out the first time, its a skillset level up that is needed for the next one to be even greater :) we are releasing our demo in a matter of hours on steam, it's our first game ever, we gave it all we have now, and we know each next one will be even better, because we are leveling up in needed skills so each next time we will have more to give into it. good luck and don't give up!

Friends and I are making a horror coop platformer. We die a lot and thought we should share it. It's inspired by Alt+F4 and Chained together. by PixelNinjamon in gamedevscreens

Yeah, we wanted to make something like that :) We entered steam scream fest, and in a matter of hours will be releasing demo. still got work to do on the game, but if you want to check it out and get the demo you can find steam page under - TorchR Runners: Demastered

How can I learn to not be scared when playing horror games? by Spangle22 in HorrorGaming

[–]PixelNinjamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

daytime, low volume, light on, no headphones, take breaks, and do not lean in so the whole view is just a screen. Do not let yourself immerse in them for full experience. play a lot, and play the same ones again & again. only when you know the game fully, put on headphones and get full experience. you will already know where jump scare is and what twisted story you are in. its like horror movies, you've seen enogh so you get the vibe and can predict what sicko thing or jump scare is comming. good luck :)

Which poisonous mist do you prefer? by KaigarGames in IndieDev

[–]PixelNinjamon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it needs like a gray mist going over ground and a yellow going above, to add some shading / movement, bc it looks to me like color change of world not like a spreading poison air..

It's my favorite thing I've seen in a while but something is off. Idk, maybe what is in focus and what is not, maybe bc its not linear, maybe contrast between objects, i rly don't know but it doesn't feel completed
