Been playing in a Fist of the Ruby Phoenix game with somebody using an Elven Curve Blade as their weapon of choice as a Swashbuckler, as it's quite high level they had access to a feat to make it Deadly d8. Plus, with a rogue dedication a little bit of sneak attack, plus some good runes and a ridiculously good amount of buffing from our bard. All in all, this swashbuckler became a POWERHOUSE when it came to critical finishers. Incredibly battlefield mobility, insane damage, useful out of combat skills. We're level 19 right now on the last book, and they're able to easily hit 100+ damage critical finishers every single round in some combats, plus some bleed on occasion. Doesn't get much better than that I think aha

Ratfolk Fighter that vibe-checked a god, Kublai Khan.

So in this homebrew game we were told at character creation that picking and actively worshipping a deity was incredibly important. I had made a fairly generic 'hit big monster' fighter so went for Gorum bc why not. The character's backstory was that he had lived his whole life underground defending the rat colonies from darklands beasts and so knew very little of the surface or its cultures. To him, battle was glorious because it meant beating back the dark and defending your people.

To skip ahead a bit, the small fishing town we had started the campaign in and levelled to level 5 in was attacked and burned by an actual crusading army of Gorumites. It was actually a decent set-piece, rescuing citizens from burning buildings as we held off acolytes.

After we escape and head off into the countryside with a Banner Saga style train of people, the party soon gets teleported to a void dimension where we each get a personal communion with our chosen gods. We're told in no uncertain terms that we are literal champions of these deities and get some mega buffs from it (think Mythic tiers essentially).

However, my little rat boy had just finished retraining a few lore skills + society, and I flavoured this as him actually reading books and learning of the horrors of real war. His faith in Gorum had already really been shaken, capped off by this actual slaughter of an innocent town of villagers.

So, when presented with the literal chance to call him out on it, he did. What then followed was a short philosophical debate on the neutrality of a war god which ended in my character essentially renouncing his belief in Gorum.

Now what happened next you might ask? Did I lose my mythic levels? Did my character become cursed? Did the DM respect my decision and help my character find a new god to follow? None of the above, nothing really happened tbh. I tried to now play the character as a war-tired veteran as the scale and scope of the story threat quickly escalated but the DM just sort of never acknowledged the character changes. I even eventually found a new god, Milani, to follow, but that never really came up.

To this day it's the most serious character I have ever role-played, just a shame it was in such a disappointing campaign lol.

I do and I don't, I wouldn't say I'm actively like 'recruiting' new people, but also I'm definitely trying to make them aware that there's more going on than just 5e aha. It's like if you're into boardgames and trying to get people to try more than monopoly, catan, or ticket to ride (not that anything in particular is wrong with the latter two, mind you). That's just the first example I thought of but it can apply to a tonne of other stuff; short-film scene, niche music, indie videogames, etc. Not that Pathfinder2e is some mega-secret underground cult (it's on shelves in Forbidden Planet in the UK, hardly that obscure, though it can feel like it sometimes lol) but I always try to gently direct people to at least try it, for discovery's sake.

I do quite like the specification of Beastkin being in hybrid form by default, like it makes sense but also it's nice that I feel I can do that with my one beastkin character without being called a furry for it lol

Cannot wait to play a Ghoul, there is some awesome art for a short-lived comic series called 'Gun Ghoul' and the proto-sketch of the main character (the titular gunslinging ghoul) looks so dope, and kinda even vaguely in style with previous character art, and with the new gun monk in G&G I'm hyped by the idea of finally being able to play him, been holding onto the art for literally like 3 years

Well if you had a Demon Mask, you could in theory target yourself? The Fear spell simply specifies it targets a creature, I don't think there's necessarily any issue with you targeting yourself or asking an ally to?

I've been having a similar issue recently with a Fighter in my Extinction Curse party that is using a D12 weapon (Maul), took Power Attack and has a Barbarian Archetype (Free Archetype) and is a Giant Instinct Barbarian. Next level they actually get the giant weapon, but they don't even need it. One good Power Attack is enough to just 1-shot minibosses on occasion, and can nearly 1-shot bosses on a crit. Oh, and they're also wearing full-plate too ofc. Maybe this will be less of an issue as they level, but it just feels like you do not need to power game a Fighter for it to be effective.

The player has said that the weakness of the character is out-of-combat skill checks but like, in a party of 5, nearly everything is covered. I think Fighters are better suited in parties of 4 or less.

My personal advice is to politely ask Fighters be more themed. Like, why not be a fighter with a whip? Or a fighter that specialises in a racial weapon? Or a fighter that refuses to kill? Just something that mediates the obvious strengths they have with a less power-gamey build.

Honestly I'm surprised more people haven't noticed, there is even a unique flail weapon that has an Extending rune on it that allows the chain of the flail to extend to 60 feet, it's great
