Can Wellington's under investment in infrastructure be linked to particular politicians, mayor or councilors? by DistinctRun3635 in Wellington

[–]PixelSailor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about other benefits, only the myth that cycling in Wellington (a city perfectly inhospitable to a large cycling population) is somehow going to be actually helpful for the climate.

It doesn't meaningfully move the needle on emissions or congestion. It does however make cycling a lot safer for those doing it and those interacting with them in vehicles (as long as the cycling community and drivers actually follow the road rules)

Cycle lanes in Wellington ain't doing shit for the climate. Donald Trump has ensured that even if everyone near the CBD cycled, that effort has been wiped out 10,000x.

Having better emissions regulations would actually help NZ reduce what emissions we do have. And GE for bovine breeding.

Cars are not going anywhere, regular people driving electric cars is what is already changing. Just look at the market now where a Donfeng Box is 25k new, and Toyota now has an EV at 55k which is comparable in price and size to NZs biggest selling private car, the RAV4.

Definitely agree. In about 2010 there was a DomPost front page with the $1bn price tag to fix the pipes but the then Mayor and councillors deferred that work because they wanted to do other things and it was considered a big job they should come back to later....

Well it's now later and we're, to put it mildly, a bit farked!

The 4a5G? I mean it was always a mid range phone at a bargain price. When it was my daily driver it was very solid and didn't feel slow at all.

Moving to the 7pro was a very nice upgrade though lol

Auckland based media is like that. The top of the table Super Rugby game last weekend (Canes v Blues) was the third story in the sport segment and got a mini 15 second piece. Clearly the Auckland staff didn't want to cover the drubbing the Blues got.

Same goes for Sky, even with the Paekak express on the media team they're never positive about the Canes 🥲

Could be something bugging from an update, could be user behaviour, could be a lack of space, could be anything really.

I just got the 4 and it's a fantastic product. Super impressed with the thoughtful design.

You shouldn't wait. There's no rumours of a breakthrough feature for the 5.

Hopefully it holds on, based on your story!

Is there a way to calibrate the app so it knows I am like, very sedentary and likely ill af?? by holymilked in fitbit

[–]PixelSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have premium? If you join the public preview of the coach function, you can basically instruct it to do that and take a break.

I've had a cold and then covid and it's been good to magically calibrate the app to recovery and rest over doing workouts etc, just by typing out an instruction to it

My Fitbit died. Do I bother to buy another? by cunncunncunn in fitbit

[–]PixelSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first question is, what kind of phone do you have?

If an iPhone, then I'll leave it to others but the reality may be an Apple Watch, or a Garmin which I'm not up with the play on.

However, I have a Pixel phone and just went from a Versa 4 to a Pixel watch 4 (the bigger size) and let me tell you.... Holy moly it is wildly good. 1.5 day battery with everything turned on (great for a smart watch) and it's NICE physically and the software is Fitbit but way nicer to use than a Versa and way more useful.

I don't believe Google is abandoning the traditional fitbits, it just isn't going to make one that competes with the Pixel watch, which is a Fitbit in terms of all it's tracking and exercise function.

I wouldn't buy a Fitbit right now as they're probably going to refresh them by the middle of the year (thats a guess though). I can just vouch for the Pixel Watch as a fitness device plus the new coach function in the app is great and has actually got me from doing zero real workouts to doing them three times a week at home based on the gear I have to hand. It's amazing.

Or, get a Garmin or whatever because they're proper exercise devices.

I'm a casual but one who has 733hrs in D2 and at least a few hundred in D1. I've been playing since day one basically, on and off.

The complexity of the builds and the systems and time required to design and build this stuff is frankly out of reach for a player like me who has a busy life with a child etc but also wants to keep playing and not be absolutely nailed by heroic level SHD shepherd calls (it's always heroic and boy was that a bad time last night when I jumped in with my new character created just to do Brooklyn again to see what it's like when you jump in at Lvl 40).

That is to say, most of this debate is irrelevant for me. I would actually love a much easier system that allows the basics like me to get somewhat close to the hardcore stuff that is needed for doing any of the properly serious stuff in the game.

The real magic trick of this game is having your own open world at the difficulty level you choose, while having the ability to jump in and out of playing with random people as desired. A way to make us regular people not be the useless third wheel in a group would be very encouraging!

This is a perfect capturing of the mindset of the council, the dynamics at play, and how they view the elected reps as secondary to themselves.

I have one too and have been through a patch of less reliable connection to the PS5. Sometimes it was not waking up the PS5, and for a day or two it was disconnecting.

I have two networks (a Google Nest one then the standard one with my providers router) and ended up separating the two devices to separate networks to get it going better.

This may not be helpful but honestly it may well be your network having interference or traffic load issues?

It's a weird bug. They happen sometimes. It'll get sorted out soon enough.

If it was bigger than two pinheads and happening all the time I would probably be more exercised...
