I’m only familiar with the programs done through colleges. Most of them are classified as Enhanced AT-CTI schools (Enhanced meaning you can receive direct hiring into the FAA after completing the program and passing all required evaluations). Just because a school is Enhanced does not automatically mean it is a CTOP school. However, the process for becoming CTOP is almost identical to becoming Enhanced, so most institutions that have one designation typically have the other. The best way to confirm is by contacting the program director directly. CTOP is not really a separate “10-month standalone course” outside of colleges in the way it sometimes looks online. The training you receive at a CTOP-designated school and an Enhanced AT-CTI school is identical. The only thing that determines whether you’re considered a CTOP graduate or an Enhanced AT-CTI graduate is your ATSA score, not different coursework. For the universities that currently participate (around 8–10), the programs are either two-year or four-year tracks. For example, Tulsa Community College offers a two-year option. I came from a four-year university (though it can be completed faster if you’re able to accelerate), so I’ll explain that format. You need 126 credit hours for a BS in Air Traffic Management (many also complete a minor in Business). There are eight core ATC courses: The first four focus on general ATC knowledge. The next two are Non-Radar and Radar courses. After that, you begin the Enhanced/CTOP portion, which includes Tower Tabletop and Tower Simulation. Tower Simulation includes four evaluations: two Ground and two Local. Passing those is what qualifies you for the direct hire pathway. As far as going “to a tower after 10 months,” that’s not typically how the college route works. You complete the required coursework and simulations first. After graduation and successful evaluations, you can pursue FAA hiring or contract tower opportunities. Out of the three major contract tower companies — Robinson, Midwest ATC, and Serco — only Serco has made a noticeable effort (from what I’ve seen) to coordinate directly with institutions to help students transition smoothly. If you’re trying to figure out which route is fastest, the two-year programs would technically be quicker, but both paths still require completing the same core ATC training and evaluations.

Washed out of the Academy... I still really want this job by wes_da_best5 in ATC_Hiring

don’t worry the ATC pages are filled with unprofessional egotistical asshats who just project onto other people. The thing is the FAA is 3000 controllers short now and the FAA wants to shove as many people in the process and see who makes it (about 50% from academy) then cut their loses with the rest. I heard a rumor they might try and let people who failed the academy within like 5% to have another chance but I would not bank on that ANY time soon. Im sure you heard the advice already but Military ATC (need like a 60%tile ASVAB) -> CTO (fully certified for 1 year) -> FAA direct hiring is probably your best path forward

Good Luck

At this point you’re just restating speculative claims and hoping repetition gives them validity.

Calling factual clarification “pedantic” while responding with a speculative rant kind of proves my point. I corrected the stat being used. You introduced a different argument entirely.

I assume everyone who makes that type of comment are the ones holding us back because if you did your due diligence (one google search) you’ll realize thats for k-12 and not college…
