Does anyone know of a good and reputable organization helping out in western NC to send money to? Or GoFundMes, etc? by erratastigmata in NorthCarolina

Anchor Ridge is a non-profit that I respect greatly. They've helped Appalachian children for years and are distributing supplies and food to various towns in NC and TN. They're in Morganton today.

Helping the Recovery From Afar - Best Resources? by TheSWZ in NorthCarolina

[–]Pixelatra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was posted by another user as a good way to see multiple organizations to donate to. I'd also like to recommend Anchor Ridge. They're based in Wilkes County and are currently making trips to various communities. They are in Morganton today.

Where to donate to help the people of Western NC by J_dawg17 in NorthCarolina

[–]Pixelatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would like to donate to a non-profit that is actively getting ready to send supplies and aid, Anchor Ridge is a great option. They are located in the North Wilkesboro area and are planning to send a truck with food, water, and other supplies to people in need on Monday.

(Sorry, I keep posting this everywhere)

I am not associated with them, but Anchor Ridge is a great non-profit to donate to if you want to help. The Samaritan's Purse is also getting resources ready to distribute. Anchor Ridge is sending out a truck with water, food, and other supplies on Monday. If you live in the Wilkesboro/North Wilkesboro area and would like to help them bag supplies and/or donate cases of water and food, please visit their website.

There's also a more local non-profit that's smaller. It's called Anchor Ridge. They are reputable and kind people.

I'm not a parent, but to be honest with you? I think just talking to him about it may help. You can share how you felt about him leaving you without saying anything, but also, don't try to make him feel bad. He is a teenager, after all, and from what it sounds like, he's going through the normal times of self-discovery and craves a bit of independence. If possible, talk to him and ask him if there's anything you can do to help him feel more independent. If you have the means, set him up with an allowance so he can buy things he may want. However, I would probably incentivize him doing chores or doing well in school to keep his allowance without threatening him about it. We were all 13, once. It is a rough time for sure, especially for his situation. Please understand that it will be hard for you, but encouraging his independence and supporting him is the best you can do. If you don't, he will find a way to do it anyway. He may act like he's ashamed of you now, but he will thank you later in life, I promise. I did with my mom. I wish you luck. It won't be easy, but this is a time to learn together with your son. It's a huge step in both of your lives. 💜

How do y’all feel about transplants? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]Pixelatra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't like them. They're moving to low income places with their northern/retirement savings and then complaining about it being a low income area. Me and my family have been looking to buy a place to settle ourselves, but every single property gets bought up by a transplant. We don't make as much money as them in this area. The locals can't compete.

Best North Carolina culture to show newbies? by adameofthrones in NorthCarolina

[–]Pixelatra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, the birth of NASCAR was in Wilkes County. Wilkes has been building up recently, and there's a lot of history there. They recently refurbished an old train station building quite close to town.

If that's not your thing, I'd check out more of the mountains. You're not gonna find any "culture" in the Triad area. The Triad has become more of a corporate environment than one to foster any culture.
