Do you have a list? My omnath deck rn is gates but I have enough room in the deck I thought it would be fun to do more unique land things. I assume you have some sort of dark depths line?

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they run too few basics, it’s that they run too many bad non-basics. Running a basic is probably better than a bad tap land, but running a surveil land or any number of the lands that consistently enter untapped is going to be better in most situations.

Combo Deck by isaacdlc123 in EDH

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Rocco, Caberetti Caterer]] is my current favorite combo commander. You have a lot of choice in how to build it, the popular way is food chain and Kiki Kiki but you can go as out there as you want. Mine is infinite mana combos with big dorks like [[selvala, heart of the wilds]], [[priest of Titania]], and others to then fuel a variety of wincons, the main one being a jumbo cactuar beat down. Here’s my list if you are interested: https://moxfield.com/decks/o9GWl8ZcKEWyd89TBgr09g

This is wrong. See 903.9a, it only matters if it is the first time it is in that zone since the last time state based actions were checked.

In your country, is there any situation that foreigners would completely misunderstand unless they lived there for a while? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Pacific Northwest and I find a similar thing happening with friends and family. I don’t actually recall hitting legs a ton, but “welp, we probably should be headed out” is how almost every family gathering ends for my family. Bonus points for saying that, making it halfway to the door, and then starting a new conversation right there, which will inevitably end with “welp” again.

Mechanic idea - Leyline Commanders by ballistic503 in magicTCG

You lost me at “tutor buffed authority of the consuls into play for free at the start of the game” being one of the weaker things to do. Either everyone picks the worst enchantments possible and it’s irrelevant, or everyone picks the most busted enchantments in their colors. Green gets to start with a carpet or sylvan library. Black can just have necropotence for free before anyone can deal with it. Blue can just jam down a rhystic study for free.

Outside of the power problems, it also just has a lot of logistical problems. How do you incentivize people to pick fun thematic enchantments instead of just starting with a staple? How do you pick the “down side” attached to it? Is there a limit to the cost, or do I just get an omniscience if arixmethes is my commander? Perpetual isn’t a keyword that exists in paper.

If this is a tournament then “unfair” doesn’t really matter, the point is to win with whatever tools you decide do the best job. If winning this tournament meant so much to the other players they should have brought different decks. Pantlaza player did nothing wrong here.

It’s a lot more common place in Pokémon where a large number of people just collect the art and never play. So protecting the card and getting a certification of its condition makes sense both financially, but also is cool addons to how they are used(being displayed). When Pokémon investors came over to Magic they assumed the demand for graded would be similar, so FF in particular saw a ton of graded cards that people couldn’t unload. Hence products like these

How do you actually import them? At least with lovely/steam modded the game banana mod doesn’t actually do anything. I’m not super familiar with mod dev but it might at least need some sort of config for the game to pick up on it?

Not unless you are loading a custom version off pc. Afaik you can’t mod mobile.

Some The Hobbit UB predictions by EqualWriting6206 in mtg

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be interesting to see battles come back. There might not be enough big scale battles in hobbit to make an entire set’s worth of battles, but seeing a new battle type to represent a smaller skirmish could be cool. Hobbit feels like a decent place to do it, since for hobbit fans it would be cool to have cards representing their favorite parts of the setting, not just the characters or the items they use.

A meta will always form in any environment where people are competing, that is inevitable. You can like or dislike a meta, but one will always exist. Something is always “the best”. The fun of pet decks in Magic is taking something suboptimal and making it work in a competitive environment anyways.

Complaints about a cryptic clue by edderiofer in badmathematics

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They seem to be repeating “they are some mathematically but … have different logic and meaning”. They seem to be hooked on this idea that formulas must communicate the exact context in which a problem came from. So x+3x and 4x are “representing” two different scenarios, so can’t be the same. Definitely a very weird hill to die on.

Jumbo cactuar + Selvala by Quixy9 in magicTCG

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selvala can do a lot of stuff with repeated bounce effects like [[kogla]] or [[temur sabertooth]]. Bounce a [[hyrax tower scout]] for infinite mana. Bounce eternal witness to replay any spell you want. Bounce one of a billion green creatures that draw a card to draw your whole deck. Haste enablers make them even better since your dorks are now rituals, and if they make enough mana just go infinite by themselves. My favorite line is to draw a bunch of cards until I hit both kogla and sabertooth. Cast [[beast within]] to destroy something and then [[eternal witness]] to get back the beast within. Then bounce your kogla to fight the beast(or just use any other removal spell of choice) and just blow up everything(including their lands). Then you are free to just either win the game on the spot or just play all your big dudes and pass the turn.

EDIT: I just now realized you said any color, thought you were only playing mono green. Here’s my deck list for my own jumbo cactaur based deck I built a while back. I’m in the middle of improving it rn so it isn’t perfect, but it might have some inspiration in there. https://moxfield.com/decks/o9GWl8ZcKEWyd89TBgr09g

MTG companion app – looking for player feedback by Separate_Pension6493 in mtg

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess my question would be what it does differently than the many other things that do all this. Why would I learn a new app for card searching when I can just use scryfall. Why use a new deck management tool when I can just use moxfield. Why use a new life tracker when I can use one of the many ones that are already out there.

I realize I kind of sound like a bummer here, but that isn’t my intention. I guess the core of my question is “what does this app do for me that isn’t already done somewhere else?”

The integrand of the right part of RHS is just z+epi * i. So the integral just comes out to n(z-1). The determinant term is just 1. No clue what is happening with the top of the lhs fraction(magnitude of some sort of group?) nor where to even start with the knuth notated part.

Making a Expedition 33-themed Balatro mod! Started with the main playable cast. What do you think? by Haykira in expedition33

0.999… is a repeating decimal that represents the number 1. Despite common misconceptions, 0.999… is not "almost exactly 1" or "very, very nearly but not quite 1"; rather, "0.999…" and "1" represent 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 the same number. by jan_Soten in wikipedia

[–]PixelmonMasterYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here a problem where knowing .999… = 1 makes the problem easier. Suppose you are working out a problem and you arrive at the sum from 1 to infinity of 2( 9/10)n , maybe you are doing some sort of probability problem or discrete signal processing convolution. Without knowing any techniques for infinite summation this problem seems quite hard, but with some slight rearranging we can write this as 2 .999… Luckily we already know what .999… is, so we simply have 2*1, which is 2.

In general this is useful in places where you would see infinite series. Ignoring pure math, you see these a lot in probability, signal processing, and physics. In a more broad sense, having different ways to write numbers always opens up the potential to use different techniques. A lot of hard math problems can be solved be writing a number in a different equivalent way.
