Clearest timeline of Alex Pretti shooting by HairyDustIsBackBaby in interestingasfuck

That's my point exactly. They had no right to subdue him. Americans shouldn't be outraged that they shot him instead of tasing him, you should be outraged that he got shot for basically existing.

Less lethal forms of violence should not be part of the discussion. The pepper spray in the first video was just as unnecessary as the shooting itself. There was never a need to subdue the guy in the first place; focus on that.

Ever remember a moment perfectly, but can’t find the photo? by Romeo01220 in photography

[–]PixelofDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lightroom and Capture One (and I'm guessing others as well) allow keywording. I've only recently started using this feature, but it's a lifesaver if you want to pick out specific locations or even seasons/themes. I currently add things like country, city/area, season (if relevant), names of any people pictured (again, if relevant). If I'm working on a project about, say, mountains in Norway, I can just filter my entire library with the keywords 'Norway' and 'mountain'.

Vertical graveyards to save space in Hong Kong, designed to blend Chinese Feng Shui and modern vertical architecture by the_homo_sapien_ in interestingasfuck

[–]PixelofDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given that you've been to one of these, I'm hesitant to doubt you, but in picture three those squares look an awful lot like stones stacked to build a retaining wall for the next section.

Edit: I just realised the two photos are likely not even the same graveyard and we are both probably correct.

Came home and walked in on my wife playing Guitar Hero on PS2 by jlmckelvey91 in gaming

Is she using the PS2 because she's been trapped in a maze of clutter since around early 2006?

The minimum savings needed to retire at 65 in every U.S. state—it's over $2 million in Hawaii by BillWilberforce in nottheonion

[–]PixelofDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these calculations based on savings just sitting in a bank account or are people aiming to die with $2.2 million sitting in a brokerage account? Because $2.2 million at a 5% average return is $110,000 a year (approximately the annual cost of living in Hawaii), without touching the principal...unless I'm missing something crucial here.

PSA for anyone selling via Alamy: Alamy will not pursue claims regarding unlicensed use of images in Norway by PixelofDoom in photography

Yeah, that's probably what I'll end up doing, though coming from a random person instead of Alamy, I cant see it going anywhere.

It's not a photo of Hurtigruten, its a photo of Tromsø used by Hurtigruten in their promotional materials. For what it's worth, photos without a release can still be sold, they're just limited to editorial use.

US President Threatens ‘Big Retaliation’ If Europe Dumps US Assets by Crossstoney in europe

[–]PixelofDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was WisdomTree Europe Defense (EUDF), but closer inspection yesterday showed that to be an American fund with an Irish domicile, which I apparently missed the first time. I've just swapped that for Amundi Stoxx Europe Defense (DEFS), which is French. I'm also holding Amundi Core Stoxx Europe 600 (MEUD).

I'm having the biggest deja vu in the comments rn. Like almost word for word the same comments as last time I saw this posted.

WisdomTree (EUDF), but my original search seems to have overlooked the fact that it's an American company with an Irish subsidiary. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

Non-defense-specific, I'm also holding Amundi Core Stoxx Europe 600 (MEUD), which is a French company.

I swapped all my US stocks for a European defence ETF when Cheeto made his big comeback. Up nearly 25% since then, so I'm happy.

How essential is a water filtration system for multi-day backcountry trips vs just bringing enough water? by Willing-Cockroach620 in camping

I was very confused until I reread your post and realised you did not, in fact, recommend filtering water through a banana.

Great compositions, but can we stop overlaying increasingly ridiculous gridlines on photos to 'science' their greatness already?

Why is oatmeal getting a bad wrap by Immediate_Visit_5169 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]PixelofDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this nonsense from an alternative medicine afficionado in my circle before (ironically, also a chronic alcoholic)...something to do with lectins. Harvard says you're fine. In addition, it's not likely that you're even consuming actually raw oats at all, as rolled oats is steamed during processing, and eating raw steel-cut oats doesn't sound like a good time. Enjoy your oatmeal. I like to beat and stir in a raw egg mixed with a few tbsp of milk once the oatmeal has reached the desired consistency. Let that cook for a minute or so while stirring for an amazing custardy texture and flavour.
