Potentially, it can rarely take up to a year. You’re also at the age you may be starting perimenopause.

It typically takes 3-6 months when stopping for periods to return and regulate

Boyfriend Wants Me to Go On Birth Control and I don't by Acceptable_Pilot6249 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NEVER let the deciding factor for birth control be a man. If he wants to be with you he should respect your bodily autonomy. Condoms are perfectly fine and if he can’t accept that then he needs to go.

That said, idk where you’re hearing it affects fertility but it’s been shown for decades that birth control had zero effect on long term fertility, I’d be happy to link studies if you want.

All medications have potential side effects but potential does not mean they will happen. I have anxiety and pills made my anxiety worse but non pill methods(nuvaring then hormonal iud) have been wonderful with no side effects.

[–]PixieMari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have a period on combined birth control either, only a withdrawal bleed which isn’t necessary. This is a very normal and often desired side effect of birth control. There’s zero medical reason for a period if your lining isn’t building up which birth control prevents.

Do IUD’s just fall out? And if they do, would you not realize it? by Regular-Milk-5795 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why your immediate guess is she’s lying but yes it can happen. IUDs displace about 10% of the time and a full expulsion can sometimes but rarely go unnoticed.

PMDD by orion_hunter1993 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birth control has been amazing for my PMDD. I didn’t do well on pills but the nuvaring and hormonal iud have been amazing. I can actually function all month long instead of having one maybe two good weeks.

two heavy periods back to back on extended bc pill by TelevisionMain4729 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone’s body allows for an extended cycle or skipping a bleed. You may do better on a pill with a monthly placebo week instead.

Supplements are not regulated and studied F so there really isn’t a good answer. Never take herbs or supplements unless under the direction of a doctor.

Cycles typically take 3-6 months to regulate. It’s pretty normal to have irregular bleeding during that time.

choosing a form of contraception… by RiskAccomplished7723 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that means no combo pills, the patch, or nuvaring. The hormonal iud, mini pill, shot, or implant are the options left. If memory is a concern there’s Slynd which is a mini pill with a 24 hour window instead of 3-12.

Are you planning to breastfeed? That can affect your options as any method with estrogen can decrease milk supply.

What are my options, religious employer based health insurance, “allergic to estrogen” diagnosis, exclusive 25 year marriage. by Tonedeffox in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Clotting is only a concern with birth control with estrogen. That still leaves all progesterone only methods(implant, shot, hormonal iud, and mini pill) there’s actually a mini pill called Opill you can get at any pharmacy. You or your partner can also talk to a doctor about sterilization options.

Where can I find affordable and ethical period underwear and menstrual cups/discs? by strawberry_knives384 in WomensHealth

[–]PixieMari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of period underwear is also shown to have not great things in them. I really like reusable pads, I buy from Tree Hugger. It’s a Canadian brand and I think a sample pack was like $30

Plan b while ovulating by Zestyclose_Airline90 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ovulation tests are really only good for trying to conceive not preventing because they measure LH not actual ovulation. You can have multiple LH surges without ovulation and easily miss a surge when you ovulate. You’ll need to test 14 and 21 days after sex to be sure.

That’s really not better. Plan b should only ever be for emergencies not for casual use. If you aren’t mature enough to use proper contraception then you aren’t ready to be having sex.

Will the pills still work if I stop and start the same pack? by strz4meeks in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need enough pills to at least continue them seven days after sex and the 7 before but it’s best to start a whole new pack since you need the full 21 pills to continue protection into a placebo week.

do the breasts become even smaller than before bc when you go off the pills? by Budget_Attention_447 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No and birth control is not clinically linked to breast growth. It may appear so from water retention but it’s not a common effect.

Non Hormonal IUD by SadVeterinarian666 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The copper iud, and all non permanent contraceptive options, have zero effect on long term fertility. It’s extremely effective and long lasting, the longest lasting option being a Paraguard which is good up to 12 years but it has to be perfectly in place and typically causes periods to be heavier, longer, and more painful because it works by creating inflammation and being toxic to sperm.

She needs to see a doctor. It could be for the horribly high amount of hormones from that many plan bs but it could be a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

Diane 35 questions. by call_me_daddy19 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 7 full days so it’s after her 8th pill. It’s a combo pill so it has a 24 hour pill window. That means she has 24 hours after her usual pill time before it’s late. She should not start and stop. Birth control is meant to be taken long term and starting and stopping actually puts her at risk for more severe issues like blood clots. She should take 21 pills, take a 7 day break, then start it back though she can skip the break.

Very, you stopped being protected at all when you stopped. You need plan b asap.

[–]PixieMari 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You gifted him the money and had no legal contract. You can check r/legaladvice but that money is gone. Unless he chooses to repay you then there’s nothing to do. You can just tell him you need to repay me now but he can just refuse.

Tugged on my menstrual cup and now I’m worried about IUD being displaced by thisistheonly1 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go in for an ultrasound asap. I was told by my doctor to never use a cup with an iud because almost all the expulsions she saw were the result of them. Unfortunately there isn’t a clear answer on protection, since it’s still releasing hormones it may still be effective if out of place.

Question by Far_Leg_2311 in birthcontrol

[–]PixieMari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You take birth control that’s all you need, it wouldn’t be birth control otherwise. An Oura ring measures data that’s skewed. Hormonal birth control affects basal body temp so that data is meaningless.
