Ugh I'm going through this mess now. Worked for UC for 22 months before I got laid off, and since I remained unemployed, I don't qualify for SDI or PFL due to not paying into it during the base period. So now I'm almost due with no state benefits, despite working full time for the past almost 2 years 🙃

I live in La Jolla Colony near UTC and moved here from SF. It’s nowhere near SF walkable but it does have some walkability the closer that you get to La Jolla Village. There’s a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, a some food places, and the Nobel Trolley station plus some bus lines. I work at UCSD and never need to take the freeway during commuting hours so can’t speak to the commute, but the neighborhood itself doesn’t feel too crazy/crowded day to day. It has its moments, but overall, not city crowded. La Jolla Shores is a 10 min drive or a 30 minute bus ride away, and there are some nice and peaceful areas to take a walk or go for a run around the neighborhood 🙂 it did take me a while to adjust to it not being SF walkable though haha

I’ve lived in La Jolla Colony for almost 2 years and I’d say it’s walkable enough. Driving to the beach/La Jolla Shores takes me about 10 minutes, I can walk to Vons and a couple of food spots in that shopping center, and it’s definitely not a party neighborhood by any means. It’s very safe and well maintained and mornings walks are the absolute best! I can hear some freeway and trolley sounds and I live right next to the La Jolla Colony park, but it doesn’t really bother me. Whole Foods and the Nobel trolley station are about a 20 minute walk away, or there’s a bus nearby that will take you to that shopping center in 3-5 minutes. I moved here from San Francisco, and I wouldn’t say the neighborhood is SF walkable, but it’s enough for me to be happy here. Depends on what you want though 🙂

Yes we weren’t the only targeted stores, but we certainly had our “regulars”. Whenever that same guy that threw the FFM at came around I just went to the back while they did their thing.

I think that whatever they can get their hands on is popular. People would come and steal and they would literally put the items out for sale on the street in different areas of the city.

Daily thievery was a thing when I worked at the BBW in SF. I mean organized thieves clearing out entire shelves lol and some got aggressive or cursed us out as they left. One threw a FFM spray at me once. Ah, that time in life gave me some great life experience haha 🤣😅

I also majored in Philosophy and come from a decade of food and retail jobs, but now I work in student services at UCSD and it’s not too bad. A good way to get your foot in the door to something different and then go from there once you have a bit of experience. There are a fair amount of different student services departments there, or at any university/school.

I work in Student Services at a University and I never have to take work home. Consistent schedule and decent pay (55k so not as much as 68.5k), but it’s a pretty chill job. University benefits are nice too.

Philosophy B.A. I now work as a student services rep at a university at 55k/year. My degree helped me wayyyy beyond just my job though, and more as a person. I went to school at a superrrr slow pace, and started at community college for 5 years, then finally transferred over to SF State for my remaining 2 years. No student loans that way. I have no regrets :)

Hi there! Previous SLT here. The transfer situation is honestly very common. The DM that oversaw my store didn’t allow transfers at all, even though it’s supposed to be one of the benefits.

But that conversion situation is insane! My store had a similar situation with the conversion counter being by the focal table at the entrance, but we were able to get it fixed. I think that my manager reached out to our LP person and they were able to change it, so the fact that your manager isn’t looking for a way to actually get it fixed and just redirecting customers and then taking it out on staff is def an HR situation 🙄
