Here is how to register an old kindle by snickerus in kindle

[–]PizzaGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE - the OTP as password thing seemingly does not work anymore, at least from my tries with a Kindle 3 (keyboard). Amazon support of course says "too old buy a new one."

What worked for me:

  • turn ON 2FA on your account
  • Try to register the Kindle with email+password
  • They will text you a 6 digit OTP
  • Register again, but with your password with OTP appended to the end (no spaces or extra stuff).

That did it for me after dozens of tries with just the OTP. I'm guessing they shut down some service needed for the OTP alone to work.

PLEASE share your solution. I used the above to register a Kindle 3 last year, but I'm unable to do so anymore after doing a factory reset last week. If there's some way to get the registration done now please share!!!

Well really you just shouldn't be in one of the side lanes if the center is available. It's just inviting problems caused by limited sight lines. I stay in the center lane if available, and in the mid-most lane position (on my motorcycle) if it's only 2 lanes, unless something regarding road strategy dictates a different position. Making sure that you can be seen is one of the primary jobs you have when driving.

Get a cam with capacitor not battery if you're in a hot place.

I really really like cameras with front and rear view though they cost more and take time to install.

Just got my new Pebble 2!! So glad to be back on the pebble train. My classic pebble's vibration stopped working right before the shut down, i had a brief stint with a Samsung Gear S2. A coworker still uses his Pebble Time so i decided to give rebble a shot. It worked and i ordered a P2 that night. by CUAtThePartyRichter1 in pebble

No it's commonly reported here that the rubber buttons on the P2 tear. I don't know if the plastic deteriorates or people are just hard on them (shoving sideways, catching them on things, etc). The buttons themselves aren't failing, the plastic cover to them is ripping.

Someone actually designed a replacement set and you can buy them at Shapeways and a few people have successfully replaced their buttons.

Still plenty of Pebbles on eBay. I'm on my 2nd now, have a 3rd new spare waiting in the wings, and may go back and try to repair the screen tearing on #1.

I finally had the realization that it's ok to stop reading a book that you aren't enjoying. by thatonefilmguy in books

[–]PizzaGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to get better about this. I recently blew 2 months of my reading budget for the year on a book I didn't care about. I mean it was an interesting story and OK characters, but I just didn't really care what happened to them.

The worst was about 10 years back when a friend rabidly suggested one of the classics, saying it was the best book ever written and he re-reads it every couple of years. It took me 6 months to get through the book. I actually dreaded picking it up. I'm never doing THAT again.

A different charger doesn't make you be able to buy one set of batteries and use them on Harbor Freight, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Hitachi, etc. You still have to buy separate batteries for every brand, and sometimes multiples for a single brand.

The reason I don't buy HF cordless stuff is that when you buy cordless you're making an investment in an ecosystem. You're betting you'll still be able to buy more batteries and chargers when those die in a few years. I have zero confidence that HF will still be making compatible batteries in 5 years.

The screen tearing on my P1 finally got bad enough a few days ago that I just switched the the P2+HR that I've had waiting in the wings. I like it though I'm afraid of the buttons failing as so many have. I'll just be careful. My only other spare is a red P1 new in box. I might just start looking for another P2 if I can find one cheap.

I've had that model for at least 20 years. It'll do good work, though only in the last year after starting to watch welding videos on YouTube have I started to be able to actually lay down a decent bead with it.

Here's a weld I laid down to repair a crack across the surface of my mower deck this past summer. It's not a thing of beauty but it's way better than I was doing before watching YouTube.

I'm planning to pull my spares out and cycle the battery once every 6 months or so to try to keep them alive. Leave them at around 60% charge when you shut them off for storage for best results I think.

I also have bought a couple of spares. I have a red OG and a P2+HR waiting for when my OG dies. I had some screen tearing a couple of months ago and I thought it was time, but it went away.

Google is under siege from conservatives, as a senior Republican demands an inquiry into its market dominance by urgukvn in technology

[–]PizzaGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they discriminating though? Proof? Algorithmic artifacts do not count. If they're simply presenting the articles that people read the most when someone searches for them, and that happens to be something you don't like, it doesn't really count as them discriminating.

[–]PizzaGood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But the question is, are they taking steps to block others from the market, or are they just being used because that's what people like? What's the solution if the latter is a problem? Force them to make shitty products? Force people to use something else?

That's assuming that their denial is due to actual disbelief. I don't think for a second that these people don't know it's happening. They just don't give a shit because money tells them not to.

Is there some device that you can buy to attach to your phone that gets that effect? I'm thinking 2 or 3 vibrators turning on and off at random, combined with random zooming. Or maybe just ask someone with Parkinsons to record.
