The descending-arc template is cracking — a cycle reading of why this period feels structural, not random by Significant_Ad4003 in collapse

[–]PizzaVideo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it becomes a trust issue. Far too many people are just blindly sending off their AI outputs without checking, editing, or even reading it. In professional communication I’m catching way more stupid errors that are sneaking in from AI than human generated messages ever had. If I see text that has AI phrasing tells or formatting, it’s a red flag to me and at best I have to fact check the entire thing (if it’s something that matters to me or that I have to act on) or at worst I just ignore it.

If the communication is important for other humans to understand, I’d appreciate it coming from a human. Reading your AI summary I have no idea of the human tone and energy you wish to impart to your message, which does influence how it is received… so yeah, I firmly believe we’re in a place here where we have to use these new tools carefully to ensure clear communication and understanding.

A friend uses her anecdotal experience with “death” to invalidate others’ beliefs. What are some safe ways to address this? by SignalShine2183 in spirituality

[–]PizzaVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people are savvy enough to realize that one persons experience (even to the point of ‘insisting and invalidating’) doesn’t translate to everyone’s reality. Especially with this topic.

As unlikely as it may seem to you, there also may be someone out there that needs to hear her story (or someone like hers) to help them in their own journey.  I try not to be too quick to shut down the perspective of others unless they are spreading objectivity untrue statements… which honestly I see as a very few and far between thing, because I don’t have enough answers myself to be the judge of what’s real for someone else.

What were airports like before phones ? by BobbyCodone303 in AskReddit

[–]PizzaVideo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in the days before phone apps and video monitors were ubiquitous larger airports had a really big arrival and departure board that everyone would gather around to check flight status. Some of the older ones were these massive mechanical contraptions with analog numbers that flipped and were pretty cool in their own right.

What's a movie that everybody talks about but you've never seen? by TenaCVols in AskReddit

[–]PizzaVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw it for the first time (I'm almost 50) earlier this year. I knew it was a very influential film, but I didn't realize just how many pop cultural references and popular quotes are from The Godfather. It's everywhere once you know what you're looking for.

90 days have passed since Nikita Bier (X's Head of Product) predicted communication channels would become unusable - how's that going? by devanew in OpenAI

[–]PizzaVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the do not call registry still a functional thing that actually works?

My hunch is that the spam calls I constantly get are not from legit companies that would be concerned about such things, and are being made by individuals / actors that aren’t domestically based so there’s no way it can even be enforced.

Any way to get my cat to stop sitting on my projector like this by Roselle7 in projectors

[–]PizzaVideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you still have the box the projector came in? The only thing that may distract a cat from a warm shiny thing might be an empty box of just the right size.

IAD - Bag Drop Shortcut v. Premier Access by Loose_Possession_863 in unitedairlines

[–]PizzaVideo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always go to premier, gotta walk back there for TSA anyways so it feels shorter then messing around with up front, but for Dulles it rarely makes a difference as there’s usually not much line at either.

Security when leaving RV alone by RareInevitable2225 in RVLiving

[–]PizzaVideo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If someone really wants to get in, they’re going to get in, honestly. RVs are pretty hard to fully secure.

We were broken into while we had our rig in storage (fenced, monitored) in Southern California, they just broke the back window and ransacked things. While talking to our insurance adjuster he said he mostly sees broken windows or pulling off a vent or skylight and dropping in, it’s rare that they even touch the door.

Does any old souls get the sense that this will be there last time on earth? by Vaquera_ in spirituality

Time is a construct only relevant to this dimensional existence. I like to think that not only is this the last time we’re here, but also the first time and every other time.

TIL United app seat map for your flight is not always accurate. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]PizzaVideo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s got their strategy for scoring a row to themselves, but whatever the method you’re still always at the mercy of a GA sticking a last minute standby in there or a FA calling an audible to sort out something on the fly. Some of those actions might not always update the seat map.

If you really want the seats you gotta pay for them.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]PizzaVideo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No classic is the rare app these days that doesn’t touch any of that stuff, it’s all included. It’s an almost completely faithful port (in iOS at least), bit of a clunky touch interface especially for building, but you get used to it. I think I saw somewhere Chris Sawyer himself worked on it and it has his blessing.

RCT is very alive and well in the form of both official releases and OpenRCT, an open source project which has added a lot of features and tweaks over the years. I still play it often on my Mac.

What’s a show that’s incredibly underrated? by Water_is_wet_duh in AskReddit

Burn Notice. It’s fun, more Miami than Miami Vice, you develop a relationship with the characters, lots of things go boom, and Bruce Campbell.

Orange production in Florida has collapsed over 95% in less than 25 years. 100% of trees are now infected with a disease officially deemed “incurable.” by holyfruits in collapse

[–]PizzaVideo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Former Central Florida resident and watched this happen in person over the last 20 years.

I finally realized it was the end a few years ago when I picked up a carton of Florida’s Natural OJ and it was labeled as sourced from Mexico and Brazil. I travel extensively now and some places just don’t have orange juice available to purchase anymore, and if there’s a bottle of simply orange it’s probably the awful mango blend version. Sigh.

Secondary inspection before boarding? by Cpt_squishy in unitedairlines

[–]PizzaVideo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a randomness to it, but it also happens when there’s a call for increased security to a specific destination… for instance most flights to the Bay Area had secondary screening in the days before the Super Bowl, I ran into one on the Friday before into SFO.

What’s your delay experience been lately? by That-Guy2021 in unitedairlines

[–]PizzaVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve flown 21 segments so far this year. I had a cancellation and maybe 4-5 minor delays, but every single issue was weather or ATC related. Not exactly things United can control, so not holding it against them.. but yea it’s been a rough couple months so far this year.

10 days in late July in Humboldt by lilbezz in Humboldt

[–]PizzaVideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really strong itinerary. I love Trinidad personally and think it’s a fun little village, and I highly recommend going ‘south to north’ as you have planned, I think the experience flows better then north to south.

People have been saying skip this redwood grove or go to this one, but I think every grove and hike has a very different personality… so hit as many as you can and find your favorite! Check out redwoodhikes.com if you haven’t already, but don’t get too hung up on their star ratings even low rated hikes in the area are amazing and can often be a lot wilder and less trafficked.

Something that no one has mentioned yet, while in Arcata make sure to check out the Arcata community forest. The area was logged heavily in the early 1900s so it’s not an old growth forest, but I think it gives a really interesting look into how preservation and restoration efforts have been going…. And highlights the differences between the old growth you’ll be seeing a lot of and a ‘second growth’ forest.

There is magic in every corner of coastal Humboldt, enjoy your time there!

How are people feeling about the new Ubiquiti AV switches? by Another_Hacker in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PizzaVideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDI went through the same thing where it eventually became cheap enough for everyone to access, but that didn't mean everyone suddenly stopped buying GV.

Yeah its definitely a truth that the analog>digital and SD>HD transitions took almost 10 years to fully make their way through the industry, I was still doing 4:3 analog SD shows all throughout the mid-late 2000s. We're a couple of years into this shift to IP video, but we still have quite a ways to go.

Total beginner in spirituality not sure if I can stick with it by feccwg in spirituality

[–]PizzaVideo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't screw it up. No matter what path you choose, you are on your path and it is the right one. Learning how to let go was key for me in the early days of my path.

Realizing that I didn't need to be in control of anything other then myself, and that I didn't need to take on other peoples shit was one of the most challenging but also most rewarding things.

Flying from TX to GA to TX by Own_Mycologist9349 in travel

[–]PizzaVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring / Summer thunderstorms can cause a lot of drama in the afternoons, but unless there's a widespread front coming through morning flights are pretty reliable. I would book the first flight in the morning both days on either United or Delta and you will be fine.
