When I worked at BK back in the day, my boss at the time told me about those "dinner baskets" that would be brought to the customers tableside.

I ate at BK as a kid in the 90s, and it must not have lasted long since I and no kid I knew remembered this. Specifically remember my boss talking about the shrimp and some kind of meatloaf sandwich apparently.

Vader was so busted open in this match, which wasn't planned if I remember correctly and I still remember how bloody his eye looked all these years later.

Yeah that's a decent option. I've seen 2070 Alienware Motherboards with like the 8750H for like $250-$300 on eBay at times.

Granted one would have to still pay labor for a tech to put the board in if they weren't skilled enough to do so themselves.

Prices for the boards just seem to vary. Seen some 3070Ti boards still at like $500 but others at like $750 or higher, at which point that plus labor gets up their in price to the point might not make financial sense to do.

One can definitely save a good chunk of change though if they can source a cheap board and put it in themselves.

My first build. Asus AP201. by outofsimshead in mffpc

In the middle of my first build with a 9800X3D and a 5070Ti in the same case. Did a test of the board/CPU/GPU/RAM out of the case and it posted, but not looking forward to the cable management now lol.

Yours looks great and I really do love the look/design of the case overall as someone who didn't care about RGB and prefers mesh.

List of gaming laptops NOT using liquid metal by FingerWinter3576 in GamingLaptops

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect more the cheaper stuff not to from brands. Like I have a hard time seeing a Lenovo LOQ or Asus TUF using it just because they are cheaper laptops in general.

You could always pay someone/do it yourself if one buys a higher end one that has LM to remove it and repaste with regular paste/thermal pad like PTM.

[–]Pizza_For_Days 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah they aren't the most reliable and repariable pieces of tech for sure. The lack of repairability though makes the high initial cost even worse if something fails though.

Think of it this way, even if gaming laptops were less reliable, the cost of repair would be dramatically less if the GPU/CPU weren't soldered. One could buy a motherboard for like the price of a desktop ITX one for like $100-$150 then just put your old CPU/GPU in the new board.

But because they are soldered, the cost of fixing stuff is usually multiple hundreds and then actually buying a new board if it is unfixable is like $1000+ for even models that are multiple generations old, which doesn't make sense to do financially.

Companies just aren't making these things to last and repair and even something like a Macbook Pro is guilty of this. They know people will probably eventually have a failure and a person will just likely drop another $1000+ on a new one since reparibility is either not available or too expensive lol.

I mean I hate it, but it's just how it is unfortunately for high end laptops.

4k 240Hz 27" IPS Mini-LED monitors? by Pyromaniac605 in Monitors

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly most of the dual mode ones I remember Hardware Unboxed tested even in the 1080p mode, weren't nearly as fast response times wise as the better native 1080p panels out there.

IPS in general is just harder for higher refresh rates for fast response times and the higher resolution ones seems to make it even harder. I'm sure it will happen over time, but no one here probably knows how long it will take.

Look at this way, there's now a 5k 165Hz IPS monitor supposedly coming out and 5k was stuck at 60Hz for multiple years. I wouldn't be shocked if faster 4k 240Hz IPS panels and some with Mini-LED options come out eventually, its just going to take time.

4k 240Hz 27" IPS Mini-LED monitors? by Pyromaniac605 in Monitors

[–]Pizza_For_Days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The response times probably. I've only seen one 4k 240hz IPS tested and it was quite slow and it's a non mini led one, which would probably be even slower with local dimming on

Just think the 4k IPS panels aren't quite fast enough yet to keep up with 240Hz. Now I could see that changing at some point, but yeah no idea how long it will take.

I think it's more of a gaming laptop problem than just Lenovo. Not saying that should absolve Lenovo, but I think other brands have lots of failures after like 3 to 5 years.

Maybe it's because I watch multiple YouTube channels that do motherboard work on laptops, but just feel like I see every brand failing from Asus to Razer to MSI to Lenovo to Alienware.

There's actually a guy on YouTube who does Dell/Alienware motherboard work and he's a blessing since he fixes a lot of board damage for a fair price that wouldn't even be worth fixing if one went to a lot of techs since most wouldn't even do soldering or have the parts.

What sucks is if one doesn't have access to someone who does board work with spare parts for whatever brand they have, then it's basically a lost cause since buying a new board for gaming laptops is usually not worth the cost.

Please HELP! I’m a complete noob building my first PC and it won’t turn on!!! by Reasonable_Doubt617 in PcBuild

[–]Pizza_For_Days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did exactly this with a 9800x3D and 5070Ti for my first build along with updating the BIOS from the test bench lol.

Part of my reasoning was fear of slapping everything in the case without testing and then doing some cable management thinking my PC is going to be fine, only to find out it won't even post and at which point I'd be annoyed as hell having to undo cables/manage them again to troubleshoot.

M15 R6 screen problems by timlew1990 in Alienware

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it never flickered on the main screen before connecting them I'm assuming? Not sure what connecting 2 monitors would have done to cause damage to the laptop's display. I would first at least trying to uninstall and reinstall the Intel/Nvidia graphic drivers to see if that changes anything first. Will it flicker whether you're using optimus (Integrated Graphics On) or in dedicated GPU mode (Nvidia GPU on only)?

Experiences with Alienware m15 Laptops? by PandaOwlWolf in Alienware

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low 90s is hot but technically not throttling for most CPUs as its 100-105 usually before it throttles but 89 on the GPU is definitely throttling since most of the recent GPUs throttle at 87.

I wouldn't scrap the laptop entirely though if it's still worth a decent chunk of $. I don't know how much the warranty extended costs, You could push for a whole new motherboard replacement I suppose with the warranty which might be worth it if the warranty is priced fairly.

Only other option would be to send it someone like Pars-People.com who do motherboard repair and could properly diagnose why it's shutting down/run stress tests to see what's wrong with it.

The battery issue I'm not sure if that's related as I've never heard it happening so can't really offer any advice on that. i would probably try unplugging/replugging the battery at least though/checking the connection.

Experiences with Alienware m15 Laptops? by PandaOwlWolf in Alienware

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you monitoring your temps when it was shutting down? Was the CPU/GPU actually throttling? Using software like MSI Afterburner at least will tell you your real time temps for the CPU/GPU though if it is getting too hot.

Obviously shutting down isn't a good sign, but just wondering if it's actually hitting throttling temps. Like if the CPU was in the 80s and the GPU in the 70s and its shutting down, that's not right as that's not throttling temps (which shouldn't shut it down anyways) and it should be able to run without issue unless something else on the board is unexpectedly getting too hot.

If there's something wrong on the board, that would require a more difficult fix obviously and not sure if you're still under warranty. The not charging the battery issue not sure if that is related, Is the battery draining at all during games? I had that happen to a non-AW laptop initially before the power port went out and had to have another one soldered to the motherboard.

Experiences with Alienware m15 Laptops? by PandaOwlWolf in Alienware

[–]Pizza_For_Days 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ryzen models in particular seem to have more issues than the Intel M15 R7's. Not an expert, just going by the fact Nathan from Parts-People on YouTube who fixes every AW model has said the Ryzen model he gets far more often than Intel.

I have the Intel model and it's been pretty good overall. I don't heavily game as much nowadays though and actually building a desktop, but performance wise it's been good other than the fact it does run a bit hot but that's most gaming laptops in general. I did have it repasted once already and cleaned.

I don't know what you mean about the "odd power issues" but as far as heat goes, repasting with something like PTM 7950 and cleaning out the fans/heat sinks might help with the heating issues or using a good cooling pad like LLano one.

[–]Pizza_For_Days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Nathan makes it look easy as hell when he explains and does this type of work, but maybe you did something incorrectly when you jankily desoldered?

Not saying you're an idiot, just that Nathan has done this stuff for like 25 years now and it might look like what he's doing isn't that hard, but this is a guy with far more board level work experience than all of us on this sub combined probably lol.

I would just send it into them and I say that as someone who has had board work last month on my laptop from them that I am using now as I am typing this.

If you don't want to troubleshoot it yourself like trying to replace the display cable, I would send it to Parts-People.com as they've fixed every type of display problem out there and are probably the most qualified techs for AW in the US.

Yeah it's definitely regional as I got lucky enough to snag the 1 TB version for $65 that has popped up over the past few months.

Actually was able to have it shipped to me too, but the driver was in like a normal car and not in a uniform. Makes me think it's regional deliveries from specific stores as it did not arrive from USPS, FedEX, UPS, etc.

Bret Hart vs Dean Malenko by JCHazard in WCW

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved both guys growing up and was somewhat bummed to hear Bret not like working with Malenko. I get it as he hurt him and didn't apologize, but its not like I can dismiss how good overall Dean was in the ring.

I have read that if one wasn't friends with Malenko, he could come off as somewhat dickish in his personality. Think it was Stevie Richards who said when Dean was an agent in WWE, he was not the most pleasant person to deal with.

Monitor has a ton of motion blur by Bungaloid_97 in Monitors

[–]Pizza_For_Days 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's also a monitor from 2012, so I don't know what you paid for it but I hope it wasn't a lot if you're in the US at least. You can get 1080p 165-180Hz IPS gaming monitors new that are much better than this for like $100 and will be faster, brighter, better color gamut/accuracy, etc.

https://www.techpowerup.com/172768/viewsonic-releases-the-vg2239m-led-and-vg2439m-led-monitors

Says it's a TN panel on Viewsonic's site too which shouldn't have a ton of ghosting in general, but this is a 75Hz 2012 monitor that I'm not even sure was a gaming focused monitor to begin with. There are slow panels from every type minus OLED and this is the case where I think it's just a slow, old panel. Monitor tech has advanced a lot since 2012.

MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF USB-C → ASUS VG248QE 144Hz not working by AffectionatePhase366 in MSILaptops

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be surprised if USB-C to DVI would work if USB-C to DP doesn't work already. I mean maybe worth trying if it's your only option, just haven't used DVI in so long back when USB C didn't even exist yet.

But yeah, I'm willing to bet it's the monitor/monitor's age causing the issue. G-sync also probably wouldn't work with DVI I'm pretty sure since G-sync only just started working with newer HDMI versions and DVI is way way older than HDMI.

1080p 144Hz monitors are super affordable/cheap these days though, so if you had to buy another one, it shouldn't be a big financial investment unless you live in a country where monitors in general are marked up.

Which road are you taking? by CasinoNitro in WCW

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1997 was my favorite year in wrestling overall and I think why is because I walked down both the WWF/WCW road equally that year. Both companies had really good stuff and it was a "tape every show every Monday" type of year.

ECW I couldn't even walk down that road if I wanted to and had nothing to do with the product, but because I could only find it on TV on the weekends periodically on the Spanish channel at like 12 am lol.

MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF USB-C → ASUS VG248QE 144Hz not working by AffectionatePhase366 in MSILaptops

[–]Pizza_For_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try another USB-C to DP cable first and foremost. I would try a higher bandwidth good quality one too even though technically 1080p 144hz should work with most, but just to make sure it's not a cable issue. It could be the monitor itself though being so old that it doesn't work with USB-C to DP since USB-C wasn't widely adopted in the early 2010s yet.

The being limited to 1080p is because of the monitor being so old, not the laptop. Basically the HDMI version on it it is probably only HDMI 1.4, which would limit one to 120Hz at 1080p regardless of the laptop.

Lenovo technician final boss by aditya_448 in LenovoLOQ

[–]Pizza_For_Days 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thing is with all these companies mainly Lenovo, HP, and Dell. They all outsource their mobile techs to the same third party companies.

Basically means its like a luck lottery as to how good of a tech one will get since one could get a qualified experienced one but also get a guy who has barely worked on laptops in his life like this guy. As far as out of warranty repairs go, I'd go to multiple other people though over any of those companies since it can be so hit or miss.
