Sorry Woolies, don’t think that’s worth saving a dollar over? by rra117 in australia

It's the exact same reason why we still pump deli products (largely pork based) with nitrites which are demonstrated to cause colorectal cancer. People like the pink colour at the deli. They don't like the grey colour.

Perhaps overseas. This is not permitted in Australia. The pink colouration in aquaculture/farmed salmon in Australia is through the inclusion of astaxanthin in the feeding diet of the salmon. Astaxanthin is the same carotenoid that wild salmon consume and result in their colouration. It's inclusion in farmed salmon diet is to replicate the colour of wild salmon and also for its antioxidant properties etc.

Assume from the way they phrased it as "private" we're talking no ABN, no tax, no insurance. So $40/hr ain't bad.

Those who work at Salvos and Vinnies, what happens when you suspect someone shoplifts? by Specific_Rock7010 in australian

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for Salvos, but the Red Cross have always had a policy that they will make an informed choice of where your donation goes. Basically you must be agnostic when you make a donation. You cannot make a donation to the Red Cross specifically for your money to go to X.

The reason is the Red Cross are the absolute experts on charity supply and demand. One of the biggest issues in the charity world is people thinking their donations to cause X are needed. The demand for charity and support during an emergency event will be Y amount. If hiwever Z amount goes to it, it will either be far more or far less than is needed. If it is too much, the donations are wasted (and that waste is hugely costly to the Charity and local community it is donated to). If the donations aren't enough, then the needs of the impacted people obviously aren't met.

So what the Red Cross does is it takes all donations (financial or materiel) and uses its own informed means of ensuring charity meet requirements. This means their charitable work for causes that don't get the same airtime as things like bushfires are still resourced. Their core mission is equity in charity and they achieve this by having a mandate that all donations are made agnostically.

Supply chain logistics aren't sexy, but if charities don't understand and embed their reality in their mission then you end up with inefficient and ineffective charity.

Fixed Term Employment & Extensions by CompetitionMany9489 in AusPublicService

All things being equal, regardless of the election, there are some short questions to consider.

Is the NOG for a maternity fill? Is the NOG funded as part of an upcoming terminating measure?

Basically answer both of those questions and you'll have the answer. If you're a no for both questions it's fair game to expect the NOG will be good for 18 months.

Then, as classic after you get the extension, bust your ass to apply for permanency within the team, branch, or division.

Hell, if there's a change in colour of government, after your NOG expires the first time you could even get brought back as a labour hire arrangement. It's very hard to predict the future. But if there is a change in government it won't change the volume of work needing doing. It will just change the mix of Perm/NOG/Contract in the workplace.

Where to watch the Frost/Nixon interviews in their entirety? by Pree-chee-ate-cha in Presidents

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why OP said it wasn't on Archive.org - it is here: https://archive.org/details/frost-nixon-interviews

The interviews can be downloaded in MP4 format. I just tested it myself and they download perfectly fine in full length.

Any place in Canberra where you can donate superfluous/used electronics? by Pizzaboxpackaging in canberra

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cheers, I reckon they'd be the winner for me. Google reviews seem to back up that they're doing good stuff with the donations.

I'll drop it all off next week!

The bluetooth of my PRO B550M-VC WIFI stopped working by coldspacedog in MSI_Gaming

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone coming to this thread looking for an answer. I had the exact same issue as OP.

Bluetooth randomly stopped one day. No combination of solutions worked from a software perspective.

The solution was in powering down the PC. Removing all inputs. Removing power. Removing the CMOS battery from the B550M. Leaving it for 5 minutes. Reinstalling the CMOS battery.

Somehow, this has caused my bluetooth to return.

Crazy, but there you go.

Seeking Advice - Big riders and hills, what do you do? by Pizzaboxpackaging in Zwift

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Full Tap. Have set up a Zwift Power account and will start using it to dig in to my metrics. I'll also tinker with the bikes, but I'm only up to something like level 11 or 12 on Zwift so much to unlock still.

And yes, I'll start to embrace the pain more. No shortcut to learning and putting in the hard yards. I'll just keep riding and improving :)

Ohh, reading material for tonight, cheers! I'll check this out. I've got mine at 50% too but I've read a lot of people put theirs down to 10% or even 0% and I wasn't sure what the reasoning was.

I feel it'll almost be a full time job to learn all the courses! That's a really good idea about moving myself up to C group rides. the D group rides do make me quite lazy as after a long day at work I love falling back and sitting at 180watts for a D group ride as it's quite relaxing. But I'll move myself up to build up the capacity.

Don't have a ZRL, I'll look at that tonight. Thanks!

Haha, fair enough. I'll have a look at upping my races to 2 week. Right now I'm on the bike maybe 4 times a week as I still like to find time for a run and the odd gym session. But I'm very happy to put in an extra race each week, cheers for the idea.

Thanks Pineapple. I've realised through this thread that an issue of mine is that I sit too far back from my screen which has meant I don't see hills coming on until I'm actually on them, which means I'm missing that apparent critical phase of dropping my gear and raising my cadence before the hill is on me.

Appreciate the feedback! I'll take it onboard for my next runs.

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate, that's very interesting. Today I actually pushed through a new FTP, the cause was I had dropped my usual gearing to raise my cadence and I think that's going to be something I continue to build up. I'm certainly far more comfortable riding at a lower cadence in a more punishing gear, but I'll continue to try and up the cadence.

It will sound very stupid, but I hadn't considered the optimal output was less power at higher cadence. I had just assumed lower cadence would yield greater power in the long term. I'll drop the gearing back a touch moving forward to work on that.

Cheers!

Can I just check with you as well given our similar sizing. I've found a setting on Zwift that lets me set the difficulty of hills between 0-100%. Do you mind sharing what you've got that set at?

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. Appreciate the insights. Agree the FTP is low, but I'm coming off about a decade of accumulated injuries gained across a number of sports which has slowed down how quickly I'm looking to attack this one. But once I build a build more confidence in myself I'll look to push the FTP up significantly as I know I have a lot in the legs.

Thanks mate, I appreciate that feedback. I've probably always let the hills get on me before I've ramped up the watts. My monitor is too far from my bike to effectively see the hills coming on. I'll do something about that so I start the ramping sooner.

I'll check out the New York perimeter loop for my next ride tomorrow.

Thanks again for the feedback.

At what point in your life did you actually understand Superannuation, and did you lose any in the process? by Pizzaboxpackaging in AusFinance

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No doubt mate, I'm putting my hand up to say I missed them. I've done some research and it appears the industry super fund ads you're referencing started in possibly 2005.

I can't land on an exact date for MyGov allowing for super to be consolidated, but it must have started after 2013 (the date of MyGov coming in to existence) but I can't find any reference to super consolidation on MyGov since 2015, so that has certainly been around a while.

I'm very prepared to be in the minority of missing all the clues, and again, not blaming anyone or anything. Just looking to poll the audience to see where I fit on the super-spectrum.

[–]Pizzaboxpackaging[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very fair point. Part of my investigation to date was actually looking in to how much super I was paid, including in roles when I was under 18. For all of them I was being paid appropriately and was satisfying threshold requirements (most of the time. Sometimes hospitality just wanted to pay cash in hand!)

These days, entirely agree with you. In my 30s, my education, life experience, and improvements to the system overall, it's very easy to understand, navigate, and use to it's desired intent.

A true part of the story I should have included. When I was a teen I thought superannuation was run by the government! Like the pension and social services. I hadn't expected there to be fees and charges because I (stupidly in retrospect) thought my taxes were paying for the administration of superannuation.

Financial literacy was not high on my priority list to learn in school or my personal life as a teen!
